Because of COVID-19, many people’s fitness has suffered due to long periods of sitting or lying. Wakeout’s attractive feature is that it’s a fitness app that doesn’t ask you to roll out a yoga mat, or clear space. Seven-7 Minute Workout
Seven-7 Minute Workout aims to give you the most benefit possible in just 7 minutes through a series of quick exercises that target specific areas of your body. There’s no equipment need. It’s free to use, but joining the 7 Club for $10 a month (or $60 a year) will give you access to a wider range of exercises, personal workout plans, and guidance from a personal trainer.
30 Day Fitness
30 Day Fitness provides hundreds of exercises with video instructions for each of the 30 days, plus a personal workout history, so you can see how far you’ve come. You get a week for free, but it’ll cost you $5 a week for access after that.
Loona
Can’t rest your mind and body at night? You’re not alone, as many of us suffer from an inability to switch off at night. One morning Oral Lee Brown stopped by a local store to make her usual shopping. A little girl came up to her, asking for 25 cents. Because all she had was a $5 bill (纸币), Brown invited the little girl to go with her to the store. Inside the store, Brown told the little girl she could pick out anything she wanted.
Instead of choosing candy or a toy, which would have been the first choice for most kids, the little girl immediately ran for a bag of bread. And she shyly thanked Brown and quickly disappeared around the comer.
That night, Brown couldn't sleep, deciding that she had to find the little girl to help her. She went to the school the girl would most likely attend, but she never found her. Instead, she found many other children, in less than ideal (理想的) conditions. Brown decided to “adopt (领养)” a class of 23 East Oakland, California, first-graders. She told them, “Stay in school, and I’ll send you to college.” To achieve this goal, Brown began saving money, putting aside $10000 per year from her $45000 salary.
Starting that day, Brown became a benefactor, mentor (导师) and second mother to those 23 first-graders, beginning with regular visits, Saturday tutorials and parent meetings. She tracked each child's attendance and grades, bought them Christmas gifts and bought supplies. Nineteen of the students in that first class attended college, and three others went into trade schools. Those students all graduated from college in 2003 and 2004.
Brown is now on her sixth class of “adopted” students. In total, more than 125 young people have gained her help. Some of these students—now in college—report that if it hadn't been for Brown, they would never have been given an opportunity for this kind of education.
24. What can be inferred about the little girl?
A. She had no interest in candy or toys. B. She had spent all her pocket money.
C. She dared not pick expensive food. D. She was in a poor living condition.
25. Why did Brown go to the school to find the little girl?
A. Because she wanted to help the little girl.
B. Because she wanted to visit her teachers.
C. Because she wanted to adopt the little girl.
D. Because she wanted to find the truth.
26. The underlined word “benefactor” means a person who ________.
A. a person who teaches children at home
B. a person who organizes a charity activity
C. a person who gives money for a good purpose
D. a person who offers homes to children
27. Without Brown, some of those “adopted” children ________.
A. might not have the chance to go to school
B. might not have received the college education
C. would have been unable to grow up healthily
D. would have been homeless at a young age

When “irregardless” was included in Merriam-Webster dictionary, it caused wide disagreements. “Irregardless” has been in widespread and near-constant use since 1795, when a newspaper called The Charleston City Gazelle of Charleston Ga first used it. “We do not make the English language, and we merely record it,” the dictionary’s staff wrote in “Words of the Week”.
The word’s definition, when we read it, would seem to be without regard. However, Merriam-Webster defines “irregardless” as “nonstandard” but meaning the same as “regardless”. According to Merriam-Webster, “Many people find ‘irregardless’ to be a ridiculous word, as the ir-prefix usually indicates negative meaning; however, in this case it appears to make the meaning of ‘regardless’ stronger.”
“It’s not a real word. I don’t care what the dictionary says.” responds author Michelle Ray, who teaches English in Silver Spring, Md. And she says she’s still planning to mark “irregardless” as incorrect on her students’ work.
An American newspaper the Baltimore Sun published the word in editor John McIntyre’s commentary on Saturday: “‘Irregardless is too a word; you just don’t understand dictionaries. People get upset about the dictionary because they think it is some sort of official document. But actually, it’s not. It’s just lexicographers identifying words that people use and trying to find out how they are spelled, how they are pronounced, what meanings they have and where they came from.”
“The dictionary’s recognition doesn’t enroll a word as correct in the English language,” McIntyre says. “It just says this is a word that a lot of people use in English. And here’s what we know about it.” So it’s a word, but its use is still discouraged in formal writing.
28.What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A.To lead in the topic. B.To criticize the use of “irregardless”.
C.To introduce a new word. D.To make a definition of “irregardless”.
29.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The dictionary’s staff rarely record the English language.
B.Michelle Ray thinks the use of “irregardless” formal but incorrect.
C.People are still not encouraged to use “irregardless” in formal writing.
D.“Irregardless” had been in widespread and near-constant use before 1975.
30.What is the attitude of McIntyre to the appearance of “irregardless” in Merriam-Webster dictionary?
A.Conservative. B.Favorable. C.Indifferent. D.Ambiguous.
31.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.“Irregardless” Is Frequently Used in Formal Writing
B.“Irregardless” Shouldn’t Be Included in the Dictionary
C.Experts Can’t Agree on the Meaning of “Irregardless”
D.Regardless of What You Think, “Irregardless” Is a Word
D
People who argue that William Shakespeare isn’t responsible for the plays attributed to his name are known as anti-Stratfordians (from the name of Shakespeare’s birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon). They think that Shakespeare simply was not educated enough or from a high enough social class to have written plays with such a wide range of subjects like history and international culture. Shakespeare was the son of a glove-maker. He only had a basic grade school education, and he never set foot outside of England — so how could he have written in such detail about historical figures and events, or about different cultures and locations around Europe? But in fact, most anti-Stratfordian arguments can be refuted (反驳) with a little background about Shakespeare’s time and upbringing.
First of all, those who doubt Shakespeare’s authorship often point to his common birth and brief education as blocks to his writerly talents. Although it’s true that Shakespeare did not come from a noble class, his father was a very successful glove-maker and his mother was from a very wealthy land-owning family — so he would have been educated accordingly. Also grade school education in Shakespeare’s time was actually quite strict and exposed students to classic drama through writers like Seneca and Ovid. It’s not unreasonable to believe that Shakespeare received a very solid foundation in poetry and literature from the courses at school.
Next, anti-Stratfordians tend to question how Shakespeare could write so extensively about countries and cultures he had never visited before (for example, Romeo and Juliet was set in Italy). But again, this criticism doesn’t hold up to close scrutiny (推敲). For one thing, Shakespeare was living in London, a business, political and cultural center of Europe. Among the daily crowds of people, Shakespeare would certainly have been able to meet travelers from other countries and hear firsthand accounts of life in their home country. For another, it was also the age of the printing press. Such technology made it possible to print and circulate books much more easily than in the past. This allowed people to read about life and ideas throughout Europe. One needn’t travel the continent to learn and write about its culture.
32.What is the main purpose of this text?
A.To explain two sides of an argument.
B.To criticize a theory by presenting evidence.
C.To give some historical background about a literary figure.
D.To encourage readers to be skeptical about famous writers.
33.How does the author prove Shakespeare was well-educated?
A.By referring to Shakespeare’s educated parents.
B.By insisting upon Shakespeare’s natural talent.
C.By comparing Shakespeare with other writers of his time.
D.By explaining grade school education in Shakespeare’s time.
34.What can be inferred from the text?
A.International travel was extremely rare in Shakespeare’s time.
B.Until recently, classical drama was only taught in universities.
C.In Shakespeare’s time, glove-makers weren’t part of the upper class.
D.Some writers in Shakespeare’s time wanted to harm his reputation.
35.Why does the author mention Romeo and Juliet?
A.It’s Shakespeare’s most famous play.
B.It was inspired by Shakespeare’s trip to Italy.
C.It’s an example of a play set outside of England.
D.It was unpopular when Shakespeare first wrote it.

M: Yes. ⑮Sadly, tourism ruined the natural life there. That is why the Thai government closed the beach to tourists for about four years.
W: I didn’t know it was closed for about four years. So when did it reopen?
M: It reopened in January, 2022. ⑯Now there’s a limit of 300 visitors per day.
W: Well, I think it’s a good decision.
M: I agree. Scientists there believe that the beach is a natural resource they have to preserve. Actually there’re many other great beaches in Thailand. We don’t have to visit that one.
W: You’re right. But I don’t know any other beaches.
M: It’s easy. ⑰Let’s search for some information on websites and then make a decision.
W: ⑰Good idea.

She created her first of several books just one year after she started to paint. ⑲Her most recent book is titled Ava’s Guide to Having a Perfect Life. It contains several chapters, including “Your Home”, “Friends”, “Pets”, and “Places” with the pictures she drew on every page, along with her handwritten text. In the “Friends” chapter, she offers this wise advice, “You should always have friends that are caring, helpful and kind.” This soft-cover book is professionally self-published. ⑳100% of the profits are donated to Ava’s choice of two non-profit organizations: A Wish Come True and the Providence Animal Rescue League.
