The Yuju opera is one of the five major operas in China together with Peking opera, Pingju opera, Yueju opera, and Huangmei opera. It is the country's leading local opera with the largest number of performers and troupes（剧团）.

Yuju opera was born at the end of the Ming Dynasty（朝代）and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty in Henan Province. It inherits （继承） the quintessence （精华） of the vernacular（地方的）clapper（响板） opera (Henan bangzi) which it reformed and developed.
