Students can learn how to work around horses at a local farm or get moving with a dance company. Some activities still have space available and more information can be found on the school district's website. All activities are free, but students will need to bring some materials.
Carlene Ogden, who taught third grade last year and is leading the district's summer programs, stressed the importance of social and emotional learning.
“If they're not ready and they can't tell us what's wrong, it makes it that much harder to learn reading and math," she explained.

“Ancient books have seen the development of Chinese civilization that has lasted for thousands of years. They are the treasures of human civilization,” said Yin Guanghua, who has worked very hard and spent lots of her time and energy in repairing ancient books for over 40 years.
Yin works at the ancient books protection center in northwest China's Ningxia library. She said that she tries her best to repair those ancient books and make them just like what they were in the past as much as possible.
“As for my work, I always begin with a 'diagnosis' (诊断) of the ancient books, so as to have an idea of the cause and degree of damage. Later, I will work out a repair plan, choose the most suitable paper and then continue other works step by step,” explained Yin.
According to the restorer, the paper used to fix ancient books is of a high quality, and is not allowed to increase the thickness of the original section to be repaired.
In Yin's view, ancient book restorers should not only be patient, but also have a sense of responsibility, since the work involved in the repair is very painstaking and complicated (复杂的).
“Every time I finish repairing an ancient book and binding (装订) it, I feel a great sense of achievement,” said Yin, adding that “I hope to find an apprentice(学徒) to pass on my restoration(修复) skills before I retire.”
