“I was having math class when a piece of music came into my mind. I quickly wrote it down and finished the song in 30 minutes as soon as I got home.”
Zhang Yuxuan, a 15-year-old vlogger (视频博客主) on Bilibili, shared how she wrote the song in her latest video. The song is at the top of the charts on Bilibili with over 10 million views. Zhang now has 1.28 million fans.
Zhang told Xinhua News that the song was inspired by US actress Anne Hathaway’s role in the film The Devil Wears Prada. “I want to send a message about girl power—that girls can be strong and independent, but also cute,” she said.

In ancient times, people depended on stars to guide them on a clear night. Today, we have navigational systems (导航系统) to help us find our way. The recent one is the Beidor Navigation Satellite System (BDS).
The Chinese engineers built the BDS independently. With the launch (发射) of the last satellite (卫星) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on June 23, 2021, the global (全球的) network of 59 satellites has been completed. On July 31 of the same year, Beidou started providing services to the world. It’s difficult to imagine.
When you unlock one of Hellobike’s bicycles, you are using the BDS. Users can also find shared bikes more easily thanks to Beidou’s positioning service.
However, the BDS doesn’t just work one way. As the country’s largest space— based system and one of four global navigation networks, Beidou has a two—way communication system, including its ability to receive messages sent by people from areas with poor communication signals. In fact, it isn’t designed for users to chat online. Instead, it plays a role when disasters happen and communications are blocked (被阻塞).
The Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 interrupted (中斯) all ground—based communication facilities (设施). Though the first generation of Beidou could only send 120 characters in a single message at that time, communication between affected areas and rescue centers was successful. Now, Beidou can send 1,200 Chinese characters in a single message.
As Sun Jiudong, former chief designer of the BDS, said, “The application (应用) of Beidou is only limited by imagination.”

Du Fu (712—770), one of the greatest poets in China, was born in Gongyi, Henan Province. He is familiar to most of us. However, Du has remained largely unknown in the Western world.
The BBC’s documentary Du Fu: China’s Greatest Poet introduces the great poet. As the first English—language documentary about Du, it lasts for an hour and it compares him to Dante and Shakespeare, two of the greatest masters of literature(文学) of the West.
The documentary explains why Du’s works have been popular for centuries. “Chines people really value the recording of history and Du is better than anyone at reflecting history in his poetry. Because historical events are mirrored in his own life and spiritual journey.” said Zeng Xiangbo, a professor at Renmin University of China.
Du lived under the rule of the Tang Emperor Xuanzong (712—756) and he was a civil servant (文职人员) in the Tang court (朝廷). But as the An Lashan Rebellion of 755 floored the empire, he took his family on the road as refugees (难民), and had to stand hunger and poverty (贫穷). Through ups and downs, the poet never stopped writing, pouring out his concern for his country and people, as well as celebrating the simple joys of life. Known as China’s “saint of poetry”, he wrote about 1,500 poems that are still with us today.
