Italy's fashion capital is gray — not only because of the blocks of stone buildings, but also due to its often-gray sky, which traps pollution. But Milan now wants to change it.
The city has an ambitious plan to plant 3 million new trees by 2030 - a move that experts say could offer relief from the city's hot weather. Some projects have already contributed to environmental improvements. Architect Stefano Boeri’s Vertical Forest residential tower, completed in 2014, aims to improve not only air quality but the quality of life for Milan residents. Boeri created a small island of greenery in the heart of Milan, filling every balcony with plants that absorb carbon dioxide. “I think forestation is one of the best chances that we have today. It is one of the most effective ways we have to fight climate change, because everyone can plant trees, Boeri said.
Damiano Di Simine, a member of the environmental group Legambiente , said the green Milan project will lower temperatures in a city where the nighttime temperature can be 6 degrees Celsius higher than in the surrounding area. City show that Milan experiences 35 hot nights a year. Because the city lies close to the Alps, Milin gets very little wind to lower the city's temperatures. "Planting trees will help this," Di said.
The Vertical Forest has attracted more than 20 species of birds. And the shade provided by the 800 trees and 15,000 plants means that residents rarely have to put on air conditioning, even in hot summers. The Vertical Forest's total greenery- can absorb 30 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year. The presence of green trees has a very important effect on people's health and psychological state, as has already been proved.
28. What change does Milan plan to make?
A. Planting more trees. B. Creating a new fashion style.
C. Pulling down more gray stone buildings. D. Doing more surveys to study global warming.
29. What's Boeri's opinion on the city's plan?
A. It costs a lot. B. It is unpractical.
C. It fails to attract people's attention. D. It is helpful to fight against climate change.
30. What is Di Simine's attitude toward the city's plan?
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Disappointed. D. Unconcerned.
31. What does the last paragraph focus on?
A. Specifics of the city's plan. B. Challenges faced by the city.
C. The aim of the Vertical Forest project. D. The positive effect of the Vertical Forest project.
D
For centuries, people have kept large amounts of cash at home during difficult times. But during the coronavirus (冠状病毒) crisis, things are different. Metal coins and paper money can be a source of worry rather than hope.
The fear is that these objects, possibly touched by thousands of people, could provide a way for the coronavirus to spread. Public officials and health experts have said that the risk is small. Still, some businesses refuse to accept cash and some countries have suggested that their citizens should stop using it altogether.
Zachary Cohle is an economics professor at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. “In many areas, cash was already beginning to disappear due to the increased risk of robbery, the ease of Internet ordering, and the ubiquity (无处不在) of cell phones,” he said. “Sweden, Finland, Norway, Canada and others have slowly reduced cash use to the point where using it in large amounts seems unusual. Britain and Australia are expected to become cashless countries. And in China, cash use has dropped as electronic payment services have increased over the past ten years.”
“Cash ist Fesch” is a common saying in Austria and southern Germany. The words mean cash is beautiful. But since the virus outbreak, shops that have remained open there, like grocery stores, have encouraged people to pay with cards. And Germany’s central bank said 43 percent of Germans recently paid for goods and services with a card. The Bank of Japan estimates that cash makes up 53 percent of household assets (家庭资产). But the threat of the coronavirus could move the country toward going cashless, said Hiroki Maruyama, head of the nonprofit Fintech Association of Japan. He added, “The culture is slowly changing.”
However, cash use is still common in places like West and Central Africa, where many are too poor to pay for the cost of banking services. Dorothy Harpool teaches at Wichita State University’s W. Frank Barton School of Business. Harpool thought some people would rethink their use of cash during the crisis, but she said the world would not be cashless until everyone and every country has a reliable way to use the Internet.
32. Why is cash regarded as a source of worry?
A. Cash may carry viruses after being used. B. Cash can’t be used during the crisis.
C. It’s risky to keep a lot of cash at home. D. Some countries refuse to accept cash.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The disadvantages of paying in cash. B. The introduction to cashless countries.
C. The present situation of cash use worldwide. D. The increasing using of electronic payment.
34. What do we know from the example of Germany and Japan?
A. Shops in Germany only take cash because it’s beautiful.
B. Less than half of the Germans still like to pay goods in cash.
C. More than half of the Japanese prefer to put cash in the bank.
D. The Japanese are changing their traditional attitudes to cash.
35. Why is it impossible for the world to be cashless according to Harpool?
A. The virus crisis will last for a long time.
B. The Internet can not be used in all the countries.
C. The habit of paying in cash is hard to change.
D. People in Africa can’t afford the banking services.

Finding motivation , especially study motivation, is not always easy. 36 Here are some ways of doing it.
Offer yourself encouragement.
Yes, you should give yourself a prize or some kind of reward when you've done a task. 37 Remember, you have to know the exact conditions that you need to meet in order to receive the wonderful cake.
38
You need to feel confident about your studies. I am sure all of us have succeeded on several occasions. Remember these past successes and you will feel more motivated to continue!
Write down your goals.
Don't just think about them, don't just say them, write them down! 39 And that's why you
find salesmen always want you to write something down before you actually buy something. By writing your name down, you are in a sense giving your support for their cause. If then you are asked to buy what they are selling, you are more likely to do that than if you hadn't signed the paper!
See your goals.
40 Put them up on the wall and paste(粘贴)small post-it notes all over the place. You have to keep on reminding yourself of the purpose behind your studies and what type of results you're expecting to achieve.
A. Remember past successes.
B. The written word is very powerful.
C. Don't forget about buying yourself a gift.
D. Don't just write them down and leave them like that.
E. Moreover, talking about your goals with others helps a lot.

M: Hi, I'm Bob. Welcome to my show “My Home, Your Home”.
Imagine that it's Monday afternoon, and you decide to buy a few things for dinner. When yon get back, you notice everything is just the same as you left it. Then as you are looking through your dresser drawer, you notice that everything is out-of-order. You realize the money you had hidden carefully at the bottom is gone. And the only evidence of a thief is a dirty footprint through an unlocked window.
Sound hard to believe? Not to our family. . .because it happened to us.
There are several basic steps you can take to avoid being robbed. First of all, make sure that
all of your doors and windows have secure locks. Never leave a copy of the key outside above a door,or in the mailbox. Second, keep neighbors informed when you might be away, and have them collect your mail and newspapers if needed. Finally,if you hear strange sounds in the house, call the police rather than seeking for the thief. Doing these basic things will go a long way (对·. . . . ·大有帮助)to secure your home, money, and peace of mind.
