(Reading 1)
Teaching aims:
Students will be able to
- extract some information about homes around the world;
- guess the meaning of the new words from the context;
- introduce their own homes.

Step One Revision
Lead the students to review the names of the countries and the capitals, using the conversation as a model:
A: Which country is the photo from, ……?
B: Oh, it’s from _______. This is ________.
A: I see. Where is it?
B: It’s __________.
A: Is ________ the capital of ________?
B: Yes, it is.
Step Two Lead-in and presentation
Show the students two pictures
Look at the modern buildings. There are lots of flats in them.
And this is a house.
Where do you live with your family, in a flat or in a house?
Where would you like to live? Why?
In a flat or in a house, there are different kinds of rooms. Can you make a list of them? (Brainstorming)
Different kinds of rooms: bedroom, living room/ sitting room; kitchen; dining room; bathroom and so on.
Look, this is a bedroom. How many bedrooms are there in your flat?
Do you share your bedroom with anyone ?
(have the same bedroom)
So, you have your own bedroom, right?
(Present the new words “share” and “own”.)

Ask the students to help Simon write the correct words above the mistakes.
Step Four Fast reading and careful reading
Most of us live in flats. Can you introduce your flat to us?
Most homes in China are similar. Now, would you like to learn about the homes around the world?
