Teaching procedures
Step 1 Presentation
1.Show the students four pictures of different types of homes around the world. Ask them: Where would you like to live?
2.Talk about homes in China, and get the students to say something about their own homes.
3.Use pictures to talk about different rooms in a house. Teach new words: flat, wooden, over a river, sitting room, kitchen, balcony, and bathroom.
Step 2 Fast reading
1. Get the students to fast read the four pages; try to finish the matching game.

2. Play the tape for the students to listen to and read after it silently. Try to understand it.
3. Ask the students to read the passage carefully. Answer some questions or fill in forms.

Step 3 Reading aloud
1.Play the tape for the students to listen to and read after it loudly.
2.Pair work. Get the students to read the four pages loudly. They can read to each other.
3.Ask the class to read with the tape together.
Step 4 A reading competition
1. Choose a page for the students to prepare for three minutes.
Ask them to read it carefully. Teacher gives help to less able students.
2. Have the reading competition: each group reads the page together to see which group reads best.
Step 5 Finding out phrases
1. Group work. The students work in groups of four to find out useful phrases in the pages. Ask less able students to write them down in their notebooks.
2. List the phrases on the blackboard. Talk about them with the class.
Step 6 Retelling
1.Ask more able students to retell the four pages with the help of phrases on the blackboard.
2.Ask less able students to fill in the blanks according to the phrases on the blackboard.
Step 7 Consolidations
1.Ask the students to do P11, C1. If the sentence is wrong, find out the mistake and correct it.
2.P11, C2. Read the words in the box first. Then ask some questions about each picture. Next, get the students to fill in the blanks by themselves. Finally, read the sentences loudly.
3.Word competition. Show the students pictures of different rooms or furniture, and get them to say the words as quickly as possible. Then ask them to finish P10, B1. Finally, read these words loudly.
4.Group work. The students work in groups of four to make up sentences to talk about different rooms. Ask less able students to write down the sentences in the notebook. Model sentence: We usually eat meals in a dining room. Then, ask students to read their sentences to the class. Finally, ask the students to finish P10, B2. Help Simon write the correct words above the mistakes.
Step 8 Homework
1. Read the four pages loudly and try to remember them.
