I. Teaching aims and learning objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. learn about some tips on being a good host;

2. talk about things to do in their hometowns.

II. Teaching contents

1. New words and phrases: mine, nothing, yuan, tin, pizza, exchange students, an old friend of mine, wait a minute

2. New structures: There’s nothing in the fridge.

    Is it enough for a tin of dog food?

    Maybe we can order a pizza.

    I’d like to take the boys to our school’s football field.

Shall we invite them to have dinner with us?

To talk about what people can do in students’ hometowns.

IV.Teaching procedures

Step1: Warm up

1. T: One of my friend will come to visit me. “One of my friend” means “a friend of mine”.

a friend of mine / his / hers/ ours / theirs

T: But I only have 50 yuan, Is it enough for some delicious food?

2. work in pairs to make a small dialogue

In a supermarket:  a cake ¥100 yuan

                a tin of coke  ¥5 yuan / two tins of coke

                a pizza  ¥68 yuan

                a box of chocolate ¥20 yuan

   A: If I only have ……, is it enough for……？

B: of course not./ No, it isn’t. but it is enough for……

Step2: Presentation

1. Listen and answer.

T: Listen to the conversation between Eddie and Hobo and answer the questions below.

(1) Is there anything left in the fridge?  

(2) How much money do they have?   

  (3) What does Eddie want to do with the money?

2. Act the dialogue out.

Step3: Presentation

1. Exchange students from the UK.

T: Recently some exchange students are coming to see us and they want to visit Sunshine Town. They are telling the Class1, Grade 7 students what they like doing. Let’s ask and answer in pairs.

A: What does she/he like/enjoy/love doing?

B: He/she likes/enjoys/loves …

2. Suggested activities.

(1) A: Lily likes shopping.

Shall we take her to ……?

B: Sure. What can we do there?

A: ……

B: Maybe she doesn’t like……

Sunshine Town is really a good place. What about our hometown? How much do you know about our hometown— Zhangjiagang
