Analysis of the material and the students | This part of this unit is about how to look after goldfish and other pets. It is mainly to develop students' abilities of listening,speaking, reading and writing. From the previous parts of this unit, students know a lot about pets. In their daily life, they meet pets very often and most of them have experiences of keeping goldfish or other pets. They will be interested in this part. With students' interest, the content will be well-accepted. So the teaching purposes of this part will be easily achieved. | |

Step1 Presentation 1. Show a pictureof a goldfish.Ask: Would you like to have a pet goldfish?Why or why not?Do you know how to look after a goldfish? Ask several Ss to talk about a goldfish. 2. Present the following questions and ask Ss to answer them one by one. Encourage ss to guess. (1) Can you put a goldfish in the sun? (2) Is a goldfish heavy? (3) Does a goldfish weigh several kilograms? (4) Does it need clear water? (5) Can you pick it up with your hands? (6) Is it very difficult to look after a goldfish? (7) Does it need special fish food? (8) Is a goldfish very expensive? Step2 Practice 1. Show a pictureof a goldfish again.Say: Peter is listening to a talk on goldfish and making some notes.Listen to the talk and help him check his notes. Play the recording of PartA1 for Ss to complete the exercise.Then check answers as a class. 2.Explain PartA2 and play the tape.Guide Ss to complete the sentences.Invite eight Ss to read the eight sentences.The other eightSs write answers on the Bb. 3.Ask Ss to complete Peter’s answers with the help of the information on page99.Ask two Ss to read the dialogue. check answers as a class. Then role-play reading in pairs. 4.Communicate with Ss and write once a day make some noise feed often on the Bb. Step3 Presentation 1.Say: Now Daniel and his friends are talking about their pets. Listen to the tape and tell me how they look after their pet dog /cat/fish. 2.Play the tape.Ss listen and answer the question. Step4 Practice 1.Play the tape again.Ss listen and repeat. 2.Open books Say: Now the girls will read Millie’s words and boys will read Daniel’s words. 3.Give Ss five minutes to make up their dialogues.Then invite several groups of Ss to act them out. Useful expressions: I play with my dog in the park. My cat likes eating. Cats are very clean. You don’t have to bath them and walk them. They should teach their dog not to…. You must find someone to look after… while you’re on holiday. Step5 Homework 1.Remember the words and expressions in the period. 2.Recite the conversation of PartB. 3.
