But here is an interesting question: Did people eat takeout in ancient times?
In fact, there was takeout as far back as Song Dynasty. Emperor Xiaozong (孝宗皇帝) liked to order takeout late at night. His servants then went around the city to pick up the dishes and brought them back to the palace.
Common people also ordered takeout. Restaurant waiters would go out into the street and shout out which dishes could be ordered that day. People could then place an order. Later, waiters would bring food to their home. People at that time even had the special meal box for takeout dishes. It was a long wooden box with several layers (层). After the race, volunteers take all of them away from the water for future use.

Jingzhe means the Awakening (觉醒) of Insects. The earth begins to come back to life. It’s the key time for farmers to begin their farm work.
During this period, most parts of China experience the quickest rise in temperatures. Fishes wake up too, like other animals. They like to swim to shallow water zones (浅水区) to look for something to eat. So it is good time to fish.
Fishing by a lake, a river or a pool, bathing in the sunlight, enjoying the singing birds and fragrant flowers will bring you a perfect weekend in spring.
Eating pears around the Awakening of Insects is a widely practised custom in China. You may wonder why people like to eat pears during this period.
