Help Kids Grow-Plant a School Garden! School gardens offer children the chance to take part in growing food. It’s a skill that will last them a lifetime. They’re a great teaching resource too, with many chances to link into the school lessons. |
Getting Started The most important advice is to start small. Containers and larger planters are very useful and you can grow just about anything in them. |
Choosing What to Grow School garden plants include: * Beans. Children love sowing (播种) the fat seeds, setting up supports and, of course, picking the pods (豆荚). * Potatoes are fun to sprout (发芽). Kids will love it and dig the potatoes—nature’s very own treasure hunt! * Pumpkins can be planted out at the end of spring and will be nearing nice when the children return from their summer break. * Kid-friendly fruits include strawberries in raised beds and planters for an autumn harvest. * Flowers help to draw bees, butterflies and other wildlife into the garden. Children will love the colours, too. |
Advantages of a School Garden School gardens can teach children the importance of caring for the environment and how nature works to feed us. Make sure there’s somewhere to sit during break times or outdoor lessons. |
Running a School Garden School gardens are more difficult to look after than a home garden. Teach the little ones to grow and they’ll grow up with a healthier mind to food and a better love for wildlife and the outdoors. |
46. What skill can last a lifetime?

Making our school green is very important. However, there’s something more we can do in our school. For example, there are still not enough trees or flowers in our school. And we may sometimes find litter on the ground. It’s not good for our school.
Therefore, I think we can encourage students to plant more trees or flowers near our playground and the balcony of the teaching buildings. We can also set up a planting club to take care of the plants. As for litter, more strict school rules should be set up to punish those who litter.

Our school is going to hold the Lingnan cultural festival on June 12, 2022, which will be held in the auditorium of the school. All teachers and students will take part in the activity, and some social groups will be invited to perform folk customs.
There are two major programs to hold this cultural festival: “music appreciation” and “Cantonese Opera Appreciation”. It is worth noting that after the wonderful Cantonese opera performance, the actors turned over to the stage wearing opera costumes. Teacher Liang Hengyu taught the importance of opera costumes and makeup, and explained the significance and connotation of opera art.

Limiting students’ mobile phone use on campus Mobile phones have become an important part of our daily lives. However, to protect students’ eyesight, make sure they focus on their studies, primary and middle schools will have more specific rules to limit students’ mobile phone use on campus. The Ministry of Education gave a notice that limits primary and middle school students’ carrying mobile phone use at school in January, 2021. Those who still require their phone for some reason must get their parents’ and teachers’ permission (许可). When bringing the phones, you must hand their phones over during class time. The purpose of this new rule is to help students focus on study. According to a 2020 report by the China Internet Network Information Center, China had more than 175 million Internet users under the age of 18 in 2019, with 74 percent having their own mobile devices. This is worrying, because long-time use of mobile phones harms children’s health, according to the World Health Organization. Many schools have taken measures to limit students’ phone use on campus. Before the new rule, Chen, an English teacher in Foshan, noticed that many students brought their phones to school. Some even played games on them during class. Now the situation has improved since the notice was given in Chen’s school. |

As for limiting students’ mobile phone use on campus, I have something to share. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】46. In January, 2021.
47. By getting their parents’ and teachers’ permission.
48. More than 175 million.
49. Because it harms children’s health.
50. Yes.
例文:
As for limiting students’ mobile phone use on campus, I have something to share. It’s important to stop students from bringing cellphones into school. Here are the reasons. We students will focus more on the study without cellphones. Besides, we can make more true friends at school by exercising or sharing instead of playing cellphone games.
Limiting the cellphones at school doesn’t mean we cannot use them at all at home, as long as we make proper use of them. First, we had better use the cellphones less than 1 hour a day, or we may harm our eyes and back. Second, we are supposed to keep away from the information which does harm to us.
Let’s make proper use of cellphones.

Many schools began to provide at least two hours of after-school services for students on weekdays in September, 2021. Instead of going to different subject-training classes outside school, students can stay at school to get after-school services including homework tutoring(辅导), sports and interesting activities. Students can choose one or two activities they like. After-school services not only make students learn better and live more healthily, but also make it easier for parents to pick up their children. More parents can pick up their children themselves instead of grandparents. In the past when schools closed at 4 pm, many parents were still at work and couldn’t collect their children. However, some parents expressed their worries. They really want to learn how they can help manage their children's study and life reasonably. Here are some tips. ◆Form good habits. Because of having more time, children are supposed to get into more good habits. Good habits can make all things easy. ◆Make plans. Making plans can help children manage their time better. Put aside their pleasures until their plans are finished. ◆Make full use of the time at school Children should finish all their homework at school and solve all the problems in time. Don’t leave today’s work for tomorrow. ◆Help around the house or in the community. Proper housework at home and more volunteer jobs in the community can help children improve their sense of duty as well as their confidence. ◆Set a goal(目标). Without a goal, there is no clear direction; without direction, there is no life. |

51. 例文
My Ideas on Homework
As a student, it is quite important for us to finish our homework to review what we have learned.
I prefer homework that can improve my problem-solving ability and broaden my horizon. Because I prefer quality-oriented education to exam-oriented education.
Last term, our English teacher asked us to communicate with a foreigner and discuss the experience with other classmates. Instead of letting us speak and recite articles, our English teacher chose a better way to make us confident and have a better understanding of English. That’s my happiest homework experience I’ve ever had.
In my opinion, I hope teachers will assign less copying. I also hope teachers will give us more social practice homework.

A Letter from Li Hua Dear Mike, I am feeling unhappy these days. I am writing to ask you for help. Relations between my parents and me become very difficult. I think they push me too hard. They are always complaining about my study. They say I spend too much time playing on the phone. But I am tired after a whole day’s course. I just want to relax myself a bit by watching funny videos. What can I do? Yours, Li Hua |
Li Hua is not alone. There are some students like him. According to a survey about Li Hua and his classmates, students have four main problems when they are homeschooled. And 28% find it hard to full themselves together to work on their subjects. Last but not least, 33% are dependent on playing online games or watching videos.

First, talk with your parents and tell them how you really feel. The best way to help your parents understand you is to open your heart. Second, turn off all the apps for fun when you are studying. Play or relax yourself only when you finish your schoolwork.
I hope you can pull yourself together quickly again and make progress.
