My brother and I were driving home together and started talking about something interesting. Without paying attention, my brother took a wrong turn.

But now we know why we did. It was to help you. Thank you for turning our mistake into an opportunity to serve.”
What I loved most was watching my brother throughout this process. He was able to turn his annoyance over the mistake into positive energy. If you bought some candy months ago but never ate it, how can you tell whether it’s still eatable? The easiest way is to check the use-by date printed on the cover. If that date has already passed, you’re likely to throw the candy away. But is that really necessary? According to a report, tons of food is wasted each year, largely because people don’t fully understand what use-by dates actually mean and they think the food is not safe to eat.
Use-by dates were introduced in 1975 because customers wanted more information about the things that they were eating. When they first showed up, use-by dates only showed freshness because producers wanted their products to be tasted in their best conditions.
However, most customers mistakenly believed that use-by dates showed how safe the food was. But the truth is that these dates aren’t related to the danger of food poisoning(中毒). Eggs, for example, can still be eaten three to five weeks after being bought, even though the use-by date is much earlier. When their use-by dates pass, cookies may lose their delicious taste, but they are not harmful.
“It’s an unclear subject, the difference between food quality and food safety,” said Jena Roberts from a US food testing company. Even workers in the food factory are not sure about it. This is why the use-by dates must be printed on the covers of products. “We hope it can help customers understand the information so that they won’t waste a lot of food.”
But this won’t be a mistake that is easy to correct, because people have believed it for so long. As a result, food factory officials are now thinking about turning the use-by date into a date which can show when food is most likely to be thrown away.
    66. What can we know from the first paragraph?
    A. Every year most factories produce too much food for people.
    B. People throw away food because they think it is unsafe to eat.
    C. It’s necessary for people to throw away tons of food every year.
    D. The use-by dates are wrongly printed, so people throw away food.

    C. BETTER IF USED BY Apr. 11th, 2022
    D. Energy: 549 KJ 7% Protein: 1.4 g 2% Fat: 7.4 g 12%

Think of somebody you really admire. You will probably find that their success didn’t come easily. As “Father of Hybrid Rice(杂交水稻)”, Yuan Longping got over great difficulties and spent his whole life working to reduce world hunger and helping to feed the country with the largest population.
Wu Mengchao, the “Father of Chinese Hepatobiliary Surgery(肝胆外科)”, focused on saving people’s lives for nearly eighty years. He performed more than 16,000 operations during his life. Holding the surgeon’s knife for such a long time deformed his fingers. Wu once said, “It would my greatest happiness if I could work at the operating table until my dying day.”
In 1969, in order to solve the problem of treating malaria(疟疾), Tu Youyou, pharmacologist (药学家) took on the job as head of a research team. In 2015, at the age of 85, she received Nobel Prize.
Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb believed that every failure was a step towards success. He once said, “If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong try is another step forward.”
Sometimes, their success was a surprise, even to themselves. The famous scientist Alexander Fleming said, “When I woke up just after daybreak on 28th September, 1928, I certainly didn’t plan to revolutionize(变革) all medicine by discovering the world’s first antibiotic(抗生素). But I guess that was exactly what I did.”
Some people only became successful after their deaths. Not like Pablo Picasso who became famous and very rich during his lifetime, the artist Vincent Van Gogh only sold one painting all through his life and that was to a friend. But he kept painting and he painted more than 2,000 artworks in the following ten years. Now his paintings are very popular and they sell for millions of pounds.
One thing all these people have in common is sticking to their goals no matter what.

    C. gave him too much pressure D. got his fingers cut off
    73. It is clear that ________.
    A. Pablo Picasso became famous after his death
    B. Vincent Van Gogh painted 2,001 artworks in his life
    C. it took Tu Youyou’s team about 3 years to reach their goal
    D. Thomas Edison tried 10,000 ways before he invented the light bulb
    74. When Alexander Fleming discovered the first antibiotic, he ________.
    A. felt too tired to stay awake
    B. didn’t plan to study all medicine
    C. knew exactly what his success meant
    D. didn’t fully realize its importance
    75. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
    A. Not everyone can be successful.
    B. The more difficulties, the better.
    C. Great achievements aren’t made naturally.
    D. Great hopes make great men.

21.A。 由“Just practice harder, never give up!” 故选A。
    22.C。 turned up出现;gave up放弃;took up开始从事;look up查阅。根据“he...teaching English because he loved children.”

To be a helper of my family
As my mom is often busy at work, I started doing housework at an early age. I can do many kinds of housework, such as sweeping the floor, washing the dishes, dusting the wardrobe and so on. I still remember one special experience when I did the housework at home.
It was a sunny day. I didn’t need to attend school because that day was Sunday. I did my homework first as usual. And while I was studying, my mother got a call which made her leave home immediately. I finished my homework earlier than I expected. So I wanted to find something else to do. When I saw the clothes near the washing machine, I thought I could help my mother wash them. I washed these clothes in the way mom usually did. After mom came home, she was very happy and gave me a warm hug.
I think everyone should do their part in keeping their houses clean and tidy.
