[2021·成都市高三第二次诊断] Nrth Americans value independence, and Eurpeans value tgetherness. I never fully understd that steretype until tw mnths ag, when I left Canada fr a 4mnth perid in a lab in France. On my first day, Pierre, a Ph. D. student, tapped me n my shulder and asked, “Cffee?” I ndded and fllwed him t the cmmn rm, where ther grad students were filling in. I sat there, cautiusly sipping the bitter liquid and trying hard nt t reveal my uncultured taste, while lab chatter filled the air.
Cffee breaks are a ceremnial part f lab culture here. The chatter smetimes turns t serius scientific tpics. But mstly, the meetups ffer a chance t wind dwn, t share stries abut life inside and utside the lab and t sympathize with peple wh understand what yu're ging thrugh.
The lighthearted atmsphere and sense f cmmunity is a welcme cntrast t my life in Canada, where I spent mst f my wrkdays in islatin. I went int the lab each mrning with set gals fr my day. At lunch, I'd keep my eyes glued t my cmputer while I fed frkfuls f salad int my muth, trying t pwer thrugh my td list. Fr 9 mnths, I struggled t figure ut why I culdn't exactly cpy the results f anther study. I didn't want t truble my advisr t much. I was als hesitant t ask my labmates fr help.
Hw much we were missing! Researchers need cmmunity because gd ideas dn't just cme frm reading literature and thinking deep thughts. It's helpful t bunce ideas ff thers, and, t have a venue t share the daytday ups and dwns f life.
Wuld cffee breaks have slved all my prblems? Prbably nt. But I think sharing ideas with my peers wuld have helped slve my research dilemma. My time in France has taught me that it's imprtant t create space fr rganic cnversatins abut lab life. A scientist can feel islated, but it's nt necessarily s when yu're cnnected t a supprtive cmmunity.
4.Hw did the authr feel when he drank cffee fr the first time in France?
A.A little nervus. B.Very happy.
C.Smewhat excited. D.Quite curius.

B.Varius tpics f the chatter.
C.The benefits f cffee breaks.
D.Lab culture in France.
6.What was the authr's life like back in Canada?
A.Cmfrtable and fulfilled.
B.Busy and lnely.
C.Tense but satisfactry.
D.Bring but healthy.

A.T intrduce the cffee break in Eurpe.

C.T recall his persnal experience in France.

[2021·T8联考八校高三模拟]Fr many years, schl children in the US have been taken n “field trips” t cultural institutins such as museums f art. While there are parents wh will take their children t cultural places in their free time, there are plenty f ther children wh will never have this kind f pprtunity unless schls ffer it. Hwever, the attitude twards field trips in recent years is changing, with the number f turs rganized fr schl grups falling significantly in museums all arund the cuntry. The mst bvius reasn is the issue f finance. Because there are increasing demands n their funds, after all, cmputers and sprts facilities aren't cheap, schls are frced t make a difficult chice abut hw t spend the limited mney they have. Faced with this dilemma, field trips are an bvius thing t cut since they are seen by many as a luxury.
Additinally, the nature f these field days is als changing. Schls increasingly use trips t amusement parks r sprting events as a treat fr students rather than an pprtunity fr cultural learning. This__shift culd have a basis in generatinal differences between teachers' reasns fr rganizing days ut f schl. A recent survey cnducted amng 500 Arkansas teachers shwed that lder teachers were significantly mre likely t take the primary purpse f a field trip as a learning experience than yunger teachers, wh view it as fun.
Sme evidence shws the trend f fewer trips may have a negative effect n children's develpment. Research led by Jay Greene at University f Arkansas fund that students wh received a tur f an art museum greatly imprved their knwledge f art and the ability t think critically abut art. They als displayed strnger histrical interest and were mre likely t visit cultural places in the future. [2021·潍坊市高三4月模拟] Why humans make and appreciate music is an evlutinary (进化的) mystery. Recently, David Schruth and his clleagues have a new explanatin. They say the rts f human music can date back t the branches f trees mre than 50 millin years ag, when the first primates(灵长类) appeared. Early primates mved arund frest by leaping(跳跃) frm branch t branch, a very dangerus way t travel that relies n hand and eye wrking tgether and cntrl ver muscles.
Schruth argues that a primate that calls in a musical way is advertising that it has fine cntrl ver its vcal(声音的) muscles. This might have cnvinced ther primates that the caller als had fine cntrl ver its bdy. His anther research shws the species that leap the mst tend t have mre cmplicated calls, which the team jkingly named as “prtmusical”.
Hagen, a wrldwide famus scientist in this field, cmmented n the research,“Sme peple wuld nt include what we see in primates and sngbirds as music. But I d see a cntinuity between human music and primate vcalizatins.”
Hagen desn't think human music has a single, simple explanatin. He argues that human ancestrs riginally used musiclike vcalizatins in tw ways: grups vcalized tgether t send a signal f strength and unity t scare utsiders away, and mthers used vcalisatins t cmmunicate with babies. Als anther idea: humans used music t strengthen scial bnds.
All these ideas might be cmpatible,__says Hagen. Prtmusic culd have evlved in primates bth t attract cmpanins and fr territrial signaling. Later, as early humans began cperating in large numbers, prtmusic might have been repurpsed s it culd attract rather than frighten utsiders, while als strengthening scial bnds within grups.
12.What is Schruth's finding?
A.Primates have the mst cmplex calls.
B.Human ancestrs leap arund trees skillfully.
C.Frequent mvements sharpen early human calls.
D.Cmplicated vcalizatins result frm mre leaps.
13.What's Hagen's attitude t Schruth's research?
A.Negative. B.Skeptical.
C.Supprtive. D.Cautius.
14.Which wrd can replace the underlined wrd in the last paragraph ?
A.Clever. B.Reasnable.
C.Misleading. D.Cntradictry.
15.What's the best title f the text?
A.Repurpsed functins f music
B.Arguments n primates' evlutin
