Lunar New Year used to be a daylong celebration for us. My parents tried really hard to recreate the season for my sisters and me here in America. On New Year's day, my family, including all my uncles, aunts, and cousins, dressed in new clothes, gathered at my grandma's house. Kids were pulled out of school, and adults took the day off. The celebration lasted throughout the day and late into the night, with one tradition following another.
Fast-forward to 2019: My grandma has passed away, the adults are elderly, and the kids have grown up and are living their own life. The Lunar New Year celebration is no longer as elaborate (精心计划的) as it used to be. As we melt into American culture, the "olden ways", as we call them, have fallen away. Life seems to have got busier and much more complex, but I often feel something is missing.
For us first-generation kids, it is often easier to let go of the traditions and customs of our parents'. They don't mean as much to us as they do for them. At the same time, they are still a part of our culture. I realized that the diaspora (流散) of young Asian Americans in the United States is not unique to me. It is an ongoing inner struggle that we all wrestle with. My Asian features and skin color do not entirely define who I am. I am as much a "hamburger" guy as a "rice" individual. I can't quite fully claim that I am an American and not fully Asian. There isn't really a check box that I can mark. I am Chinese-Vietnamese-Asian-American.
I now have two little boys. It saddens me to think they will never be able to experience what my sisters and I did as little kids during this holiday. Recently, for the first time, I've hung up Lunar New Year decorations around the house and replaced our Christmas wreath (花环) on the front door with decorative firecrackers. In a way, my sons are forcing me to slow down and explore my heritage.
I suppose sometimes we need to look back in order to gain clarity on the path ahead.

A.Slightly disappointed. B.Tolerant.

A.To suggest various choices. B.To indicate diverse identities.
C.To clarify different customs. D.To compare personal tastes.
27.What message does the author seem to convey in the text?
A.We should strengthen family bonds.
B.We are what we choose to be.
C.Passing down family traditions matters.
D.Knowing yourself is a lifelong process.

A different kind of food service app is allowing loyal customers to buy restaurant food at a low price before it goes into the waste bin.
Too Good To Go provides buyers with a bag of nearly wasted, but perfectly good food for takeaways as a way to cut back on food waste and help support the restaurant industry. Unlike other apps of a similar type that can allow customers to pick and choose which items they want to save, Too Good To Go offers only bags of whatever food the restaurants have. People will think it has a true enterprise spirit. The app is one of the several winners of Fast Company’s 2021 World Changing Ideas Award, which reports that 40% of the food in America is wasted.
It’s impossible to know how much food really will end up in landfills(垃圾处理厂),but it’s possible to know how many meals Too Good To Go has prevented from going there. Originally sold only in a few selected American cities, 200,000 meals have been sold, and these meals can be thrown into the garbage in a few hours. And over 1, 500 restaurants have signed up in cities like New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. At present, 150,000 orders are going out the door per day in 15 countries, across a user base of around 37 million people, saving incredible food waste.
It is also easier for the restaurants to deal with the leftovers since it’s not likely to guess and predict what will be available at the end of any night. Decomposing food in landfills is a major source of methane, which can cause climate-related damage before completely decomposing after a decade.
“We think we can save more than 2 million meals from the trash in the U.S. in 2021, avoiding thousands of tons of emissions.”said Lucie Basch, co-founder of Too Good To Go.
28.What is special about Too Good To Go?
A.It provides buyers with a bag of leftover food for free.
B.It allows customers to select whatever food they want.
C.It limits consumers’ choices to the food the restaurants have.
D.It is the only app winning 2021 World Changing Ideas Award.
29.What can we do with the app installed?
A.Find out the categories of the food wasted most.
B.Figure out how much food will end up in landfills.
C.Predict what food will be available in the restaurants.
D.Prevent more meals being thrown into the garbage.
30.What does the underlined word “Decomposing” probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Cutting down. B.Breaking down. C.Turning down. D.Putting down.
31.What is the best title of the passage?
A.An app reducing food waste
B.An app distributing optional food
C.An app causing climate-related damage
D.An app promoting a true enterprise spirit

Synthetic voices (合成语音) are everywhere. They feed us directions in the morning, guide us through phone calls by day and broadcast the news on smart speakers at night. And as the technology used to make them improves, these voices are becoming more and more human-sounding. This is the final frontier in synthetic speech: copying not just what we say exactly but how we say it.
Rupal Patel heads a research group at Northeastern University that studies speech prosody (韵律)—the changes in pitch, loudness and duration that we use to convey intention and emotion through voice. "Sometimes people think of it as the icing (糖霜) on the cake," she explains. "You have the message, and I really think it's the scaffolding (脚手架) that gives meaning to the message itself."
Patel says she grew interested in prosody after finding it was the only element of vocal communication that seemed to be available to people with some kinds of severe speech disorders. These patients were able to make expressive sounds even if they could not speak clearly. In 2014 Patel founded a company to create custom synthetic voices for nonspeaking individuals. VocaliD has since expanded to commercial brands and influencers.
Synthetic speech has come a long way over the years. People have been trying to synthesize speech since at least the 18th century, when an Austro-Hungarian inventor built a rough copy of the human vocal tract (声道) that could pronounce entire phrases clearly.
Current machine-learning techniques can model human speech, and complete with awkward pauses and sounds made by lips. Still, training on thousands of samples per second is prohibitively expensive for most real-world systems. Researchers, including those at VocaliD, are continually employing newer and more efficient methods. But even as the remaining gaps between human and synthetic speech are steadily closing, truly lifelike prosody continues to fail to meet the requirement of even the most complicated systems. Maybe what's still missing requires machines not only to imitate humans but also to feel like us.
32.What is the challenge for current synthetic voices?
A.Recognizing speakers. B.Saving human speech.
C.Conveying intention and emotion. D.Getting speakers to become smarter.
33.Why did Rupal Patel set up VocaliD?
A.To help patients to make expressive sounds.
B.To expand his commercial brands and influence.
C.To develop various elements for synthetic voices.
D.To build voices for people with speech disorders.
34.What can be inferred about synthetic speech?
A.It exactly equals human speech.
B.It is on the way to being perfect.
C.It can bridge gaps between people.
D.It contains more beautiful prosody.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Synthetic Voices Will Replace Human Speech
B.VocaliD Has Found a Cure for Speech Disorders
C.Machines Teach People to Communicate Well
D.Artificial Intelligence Is Good at Sounding Human

根据第一段“The celebration lasted throughout the day and late into the night, with one tradition following another.(庆祝活动持续了一整天,一直到深夜,一个传统接一个)”可知,作者一家在美国依旧按传统方式过农历新年。故选C项。
根据第二段最后一句“As we melt into American culture, the ‘olden ways’, as we call them, have fallen away. Life seems to have got busier and much more complex, but I often feel something is missing.(随着我们融入美国文化,我们所谓的‘古老的方式’已经消失了。生活似乎变得更加忙碌和复杂,但我经常感到缺少了什么)”可知,作者对于‘古老的方式’的消失,感觉心里空落落的,有点失望。故选A项。
根据第三段“My Asian features and skin color do not entirely define who I am.(我的亚裔特征和肤色并不能完全定义我的身份)”,及下文“I can’t quite fully claim that I am an American and not fully Asian. There isn't really a check box that I can mark. I am Chinese-Vietnamese-Asian-American.(我不能完全说我是美国人而不是完全的亚洲人。没有一个我可以标记的复选框。我是一个有着中国和越南血统的亚裔美国人)”可知,作者用hamburger指代“美国”,用rice指代”亚洲的中国和越南”,指出了他的两个不同的身份。故选B项。
27.推理判断题。根据最后第二段第二句开始“It saddens me to think they will never be able to experience what my sisters and I did as little kids during this holiday. Recently, for the first time, I've hung up Lunar New Year decorations around the house and replaced our Christmas wreath (花环) on the front door with decorative firecrackers. In a way, my sons are forcing me to slow down and explore my heritage.(想到他们将永远无法体验到我和我的姐妹们小时候在这个节日里所做的事情,我感到很难过。

由第一段“A different kind of food service app is allowing loyal customers to buy restaurant food at a low price before it goes into the waste bin.”(另一种餐饮服务应用程序允许忠诚的顾客在餐厅食物进入垃圾桶之前以低价购买)可知,本文主要介绍了一个减少食物浪费的app,在餐馆剩下的食物进入垃圾箱之前可以通过这个app卖掉,进而减少了食物浪费。 故选A项。

根据第四段“Synthetic speech has come a long way over the years. People have been trying to synthesize speech since at least the 18th century, when an Austro-Hungarian inventor built a rough copy of the human vocal tract (声道) that could pronounce entire phrases clearly.”(合成语言在过去的几年里已经取得了很大的进步。 和最后一段“Current machine-learning techniques can model human speech, and complete with awkward pauses and sounds made by lips.”(目前的机器学习技术可以模仿人类的语言,并且用笨拙的停顿和嘴唇发出的声音来完成。)
根据第一段“This is the final frontier in synthetic speech: copying not just what we say exactly but how we say it.”( 这是合成语音的最后一个前沿领域:不仅要准确地复制我们所说的内容,还要复制我们说话的方式。)

While it is common for parents to post their children’s photos online nowadays, some students around me are anxious about it. As for me, it’s something acceptable.
In my opinion, posting children’s photos online is beneficial to people and makes a child better known. As a result, he is likely to have more chances to be successful in the future. It will also be easier for parents to communicate with their friends, for they have more to share with each other. Besides, it’s a way to strengthen an online social circle and connect with people we don’t know before.
Although there may be some disadvantages that come with posting children’s photos, it’s not necessary to be too cautious about it. We should have confidence in our society.
反对:
While it’s common for parents to post their children’s photos online nowadays, some students around me are anxious about it. I hold the same view as them. In my opinion, it is not always the smartest or safest thing to do so. What parents view as delightful photos may be interpreted differently by others and give a false image of what the child is really like. Besides, some individuals or companies steal children’s images and use them in advertisements or other commercial activities. Moreover, it can result in them being re-shared and altered by other online users without permission, which may end up damaging their school status or future career prospects. In short, have a good talk with your parents to make sure they are cautious about it.
在我看来:in my opinion→from my perspective
因此:as a result→therefore
而且:besides→moreover
增强:strengthen→enhance
In my opinion, posting children’s photos online is beneficial to people and makes a child better known.
In my opinion, that parents post children’s photos online is beneficial to people and makes a child better known.

2】Although there may be some disadvantages that come with posting children’s photos, it’s not necessary to be too cautious about it.(运用了although引导的让步状语从句)
