Inside, there was a high ceiling. “Did this use to be a bank?” many visitors would ask. But it had, in fact, always been a newsroom.I was young and shy when I first went to work there, and it probably took me a month before I talked to any of the other reporters. But eventually, they became my best friends, the core of my social lifeMy second newsroom was the airy top floor of a historic building in the state capital of Maryland. It was smaller and less grand but far more energizing. My colleagues were older. I learned so much about how to be a reporter from overhearing their phone interviews. This past summer, several American newspapers announced they would be closing their newsrooms. Many local newspapers have gone out of business in recent years, victims of declining circulation and shrinking advertising dollars. Then along came the coronavirus pandemic (新冠病毒疫情), and so many of us were sent home to work from there. The pleasant surprise is that we have all succeeded brilliantly in working remotely. But some managers have looked at this success and thought: “Why would we need to return to the newsroom?”I worry that they are making a big mistake. A physical newsroom sends a powerful message to a community: “We are here for you.” At my first job, strangers could walk right through the door and straight up my desk. We treasured that visibility. But I also think about the collaboration (合作)— of the times I would overhear colleagues talking about a story and realize that I had some useful information for them. Sometimes, a colleague would see me in the hall and give me a story idea. I can’t wait to get back to my newsroom.24.How was the author’s first newsroom different from the second one?A.It sat in a big city. B.It used to be a bank.C.It was visitor-friendly. D.It was in a grand building.25.How did the author benefit from her second newsroom?A.She overcame her shyness.B.She made her best friends there.C.She could overhear others’ argument.D.She gained experience from her colleagues.26.What does the underlined part “this success” in paragraph 4 refer to?A.Journalists worked effectively at home.B.Newspaper circulation was increasingC.Newspaper advertising was profitable.D.Journalism survived the pandemic.27.Why is the author against closing newsrooms?A.Newsrooms serve as a close tie.B.She will be out of work as a result.C.Newspapers will disappear due to it.D.It is against the will of communities.C(2022·安徽马鞍山·二模)In 2007, the African Union announced an ambitious project—to plant the Great Green Wall (GGW), a band of trees that would stretch the length of the Sahel. The GGW is an ecological restoration project designed by African people for African people. Heavy rains, droughts, wildfires and landslides have all become common throughout the world. But nowhere is quite like the Sahel. In this huge African region, climate change has materialized in a dramatic manner. In some cases, the severe conditions have left people with no option other than to migrate elsewhere to survive. It was with all of this in mind that the extraordinary, but heavily debated project was first put forward. Fourteen years have passed since the initiative formally kicked off. The stated goal was to create a 15-kilometre-wide, 8, 000-kilometre-long green belt of trees and other plants that, by 2030, would span(跨越)the entire width of the Sahel, from Senegal to Djibouti. Overall, 100 million hectares(公顷)of land would be restored by 2030. Once completed, it was announced, the wall could end up capturing(俘获)250 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, while its creation and upkeep could create ten million jobs in rural areas. Looking at the project as a whole, there’s still a long way to go. According to a status report by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, about four million hectares of degraded land have been restored. This means that progress towards the 100 million hectares target stands at just four per cent. “When we started restoring the soil, we realized the area at risk was much wider than we initially thought,” explains Elvis Paul Tangem, the African Union’s GGW coordinator. “We had few funds to push the initiative as much as we wanted to. There was skepticism among investors, who didn’t understand the project, but also among the African states themselves, which needed time to figure out if the GGW was a priority.”28.What is the purpose of the GGW project?A.To improve local ecology. B.To develop rural economy.C.To predict climate patterns. D.To strengthen regional ties.29.What do the statistics in paragraph 3 show of the initiative?A.The service period. B.The total budget.C.The targeted groups. D.The expected benefits.30.How does Elvis Paul Tangem feel about the project?A.Skeptical. B.Worried. C.Confident. D.Satisfied.31.What message does the author intend to convey in the text?A.African countries should stand together.B.The progress of the GGW project is slow.C.Fighting climate change is our top priority.D.Natural disasters are worse than we thought.D(2022·黑龙江·哈九中二模)Video calls are a common occurrence, but have you imagined being able to touch the person on the other end of the line? Scientists are making this a reality. Researchers at the University of New South Wales Australia, have invented a soft skin stretch device (SSD), a haptic device that can recreate the sense of touch. Haptic technology imitates the experience of touch by stimulating localized areas of the skin in ways that are similar to what is felt in the real worlds through force, vibration or motion. Vibration is the most common haptic technology today and has been built into many electronic devices, such as one attached to the back of a trackpad in laptops, which simulates a button clicking. However, haptic feedback with vibration becomes less sensitive when used continuously. The existing technology also has great difficulty recreating the sense of touch with objects in virtual environments or located remotely according to Mai Thanh Thai, lead author of the study. The new technology overcomes issues with existing haptic devices. The research team introduced a novel method to recreate the sense of touch through soft, artificial “muscles”. “Our three-way directional skin stretch device, built into the fingertips of the wearable haptic glove we also created, is like wearing a second skin—it’s soil, stretchable and mimics the sense of touch—and will enable new forms of haptic communication to enhance everyday activities, ” said Thanh Nho Do, senior author of the study. It works like this: Imagine you are at home and you call your friend who is in Australia. You wear a haptic glove with the SSDs and your friend also wears a glove with integrated 3D force sensors. If your friend picks up an object, it will physically press against your friend’s lingers. And the glove with 3D force sensors will measure these interactions. The force signals can be sent to your glove so your device will generate the same 3D forces, making you experience the same sense of touch as your friend. The haptic devices could be applied in various scenes, allowing users to feel objects inside a virtual world or at a distance. This could be especially beneficial during such times like the COVID-19 pandemic when people rely on video calls to stay connected with loved ones. Or it could be used in medical practices. Doctors can feel a patient’s organ tissues with surgical(手术的)tools without touching them.32.What can we learn about the SSD?A.It imitates the sense of touch through animal skin.B.It mainly uses vibration technology.C.It makes virtual haptic communication possible.D.It takes the shape of a glove.33.What does the last but one paragraph mainly talk about?A.The advantages of the new haptic glove.B.An explanation of how the haptic device works.C.The applications of the new haptic technology.D.A personal experience of using SSDs during a video call.34.According to the author, in which of the following situation could the new haptic device benefit people?A.Interviewing someone face to face.B.Recreating organ tissues.C.Evaluating surgeries from a distance.D.Feeling a silk scarf being sold online.35.What’s the main purpose of the text?A.To encourage the use of a new product.B.To introduce the development of haptic technology.C.To compare different haptic devices.D.To inform readers of a new invention.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(2022·浙江温州·二模)It's time to break out that picture of you as a kindergarten graduate.
