【2013全国I卷】 Business management is a term used to describe the techniques of planning, direction, and control of the operations of a business. 3 One is the establishment (制定) of broad basic policies with respect to production; sales; the purchase of equipment, materials and supplies; and accounting. 4 The third relates to the establishment of standards of work in all departments. Direction is concerned primarily with supervision(监管) and guidance by the management in authority. 5
    A. Control includes the use of records and reports to compare actual work with the set standards for work.
    B. In this connection there is the difference between top management and operative management.
    C. Examples of nonprofit businesses include such organizations as social service agencies and many hospitals.
    D. However, some businesses only seek to earn enough to cover their operating costs.
    E. The second aspect relates to the application of these policies by departments.
    F. In the theory of business management, organization has two main aspects.
    G. Planning in business management has three main aspects.
    5. A。 故选A。
Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible. 39 They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals.
    E. They can change according to circumstances.
Never mind that most travelers nowadays have smart phones with built-in alarm clocks.__17__ Here are some examples. At the Wolcott Hotel, if a wake-up call is unanswered, they will send an employee to your door. At Las Ventanas al Paraiso, an employee shows up at your room to wake you up with tea, coffee and breakfast bread. At the Mandarin Oriental, a person rather than an automated system will call to wake you up.
    F. The human wake-up call is a way to personalize a guest’s stay.
F。由17空之后的“Here are some examples...” 根据后面举的例子可知应该选择F项“The human wake-up call is a way to personalize a guest’s stay.”
Some people may think that a garden is no more than plants, flowers, patterns and masses of color. Others are concerned about using gardening methods that require less water and fewer fertilizers (肥料). 18 However, there are a number of other reasons that might explain why you want to garden. One of them comes from our earliest years.
    E. Still others may simply enjoy being outdoors and close to plants.
Every animal sleeps, but the reason for this has remained foggy. When lab rats are not allowed to sleep, they die within a month. 71
    C. Similarly, when people go for a few days without sleeping, they get sick.
Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a pilot but can't become one because your eyesight is not good enough. 40 You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal.
    C. However, this should not discourage you.
Our model of what a garden should be often goes back to childhood. Grandma's rose garden and Dad's vegetable garden might be good or bad, but that's not what's important. 19 — how being in those gardens made us feel. If you'd like to build a powerful bond with your garden, start by taking some time to recall the gardens of your youth. 20.For each of those gardens, write down the strongest memory you have. Then go outside and work out a plan to translate your childhood memories into your grownup garden. Have fun.
    C. It's our experience of the garden that matters.
Even the most successful public speaker will make mistakes. Yet, the only one who cares about any mistake is the one who is speaking. People’s attention wanders constantly. In fact. most people only absorb about 20 percent of a speaker’s message. So, don’t stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it’s a truly serious one.__18__
    C. You don’t need to apologize for a minor slip.
C。根据上文中的“So,don’t stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it’s a truly serious one.”

    Swap, Don’t shop!
You keep hearing about recycling, right? But it doesn't end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources(资源)to make, and buying loads of new clothing(or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment. So what to do with all those perfectly-good-but-you're-maybe-a-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor? 36 . It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.
A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.
●Invite 5—10 people so you have a nice selection. 37 , and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
    ● 38 . They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their "new" clothes home.
●Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room. 39 . Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.
●Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever. 40 . And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!
    A. Less people than that
    B. Hold a clothing swap
    C. If two people are competing
    D. Just keep music playing throughout
    E. Donate whatever clothes are left over
    F. Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
    G. Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition
B 37. A 38. G 39. F 40. D
    36. B。根据上文“So what to do with all those perfectly- good-but-you 're- maybe-little-sick-of-them clothes piled on your bedroom floor?(那么,该如何处理那些堆在卧室地板上的(看起来)完好但你可能有点厌倦的衣服呢?)” 下文“It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.(这是扔掉旧衣服、从朋友那里买衣服、同时开派对的最好方法。)” B项“Hold a clothing swap.(进行衣物交换。)”
    37. A。根据上文“Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection.”(邀请5到10个人,这样你就有一个很好的选择。) 下文“and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.”(可能没有足够的东西可供选择;多于这个数量,它就变得无法控制。) A项“Less people than that”(少于这些人)提出一种假设,和下文中“more than that”相对,说明人数不宜太多,也不能太少,符合语境。故选A。
    38. G。根据下文“They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.”(他们还应该准备大量的可重复使用的袋子,把他们的“新”衣服带回家。) G项“Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition.”(告诉每个人带来品相完好的衣服。)
    39. F。根据上文“Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room.”(把不同类型的衣服放在房间的不同地方。) 下文“Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on.”(在房间周围放几面镜子,这样人们试穿时就能看到衣服的样子。) F项“Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots.(让每个人的衣服都放在相应的位置上。)”
    40. D。上文“Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever.”(设置开始时间。 下文“And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!”(别忘了拿出一些饼干和水果。 D项“Just keep music playing throughout.”(要始终播放音乐。)

A housewarming party is a special party to be held when someone buys or moves into a new apartment or house. The person who bought the house or moved is the one who throws the party. The party is a chance for friends and family to congratulate the person on the new home. 36 And it is good time to fill the new space with love and hopeful presents.
37 Some people register a list of things they want or need for their new home at a local stores. Some common things people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and things like curtains. Even if there isn’t a registry, a good housewarming gift is something to decorate the new house with, like a piece of art or a plant.
38 This is often appreciated since at a housewarming there isn’t a lot of food served. There are usually no planned activities like games at a housewarming party. The host or hostess of the party will, however, probably give all the guests a tour of their new home. Sometimes, because a housewarming party happens shortly after a person moves into their new home, people may be asked to help unpack boxes. 39
Housewarming parties get their name from the fact that a long time ago people would actually bring firewood to a new home as a gift. 40 Now most homes have central heating and don’t use fires to keep warm.
    A. This isn’t usual though.
    B. It is traditional to bring a gift to a housewarming party.
    C. You can also bring food or drinks to share with the other guests.
    D. If you’re lucky enough to receive gifts, keep them in a safe place.
    E. It also gives people a chance to see what the new home looks like.
    F. The best housewarming parties encourage old friends to get together.
    G. This was so that the person could keep their home warm for the winter.
E 37. B 38. C 39. A 40. G
    36. E。上句 The party is a chance for friends and family to congratulate the person on the new home.(这个聚会是朋友和家人祝贺新家的机会)。 And it is a good time to fill the new space with love and hopefully presents.(现在是时候用爱和希望的礼物来填补新家了)。
    37. B。下文Some common things people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and things like curtains.和like a piece of art or a plant.
This is often appreciated since at a housewarming there isn' t a lot of food served.(这一点通常是值得赞赏的,因为在乔迁派对上不会提供很多食物)。
    40. G。上句介绍了乔迁聚会名称的由来,根据bring firewood to a new home as a gift.

    _____/5
Why sensitive kids will make the world a better place?
Sensitive children are these special, observant people. They notice when you’re sad, and they ask why. They’re often old souls with big hearts who want to make other people happy. 36 Why?
Because they’re supportive. 37 They believe in people and want to see them do well. They want to make the people they love happy. Sensitive people are often great listeners -they want to know people and understand what they’re thinking and feeling. They want to be there for you when you need them.
38 Sensitive kids typically have unbelievable imaginations. They’re dreamers. Their creatively shines through in all they do, and ideas just come to them. They show a great appreciation for the arts and they’re inspired by the beauty they find in the world. They notice that tiny little worms crawling on the sidewalk and the puffy(松软洁白的)clouds in the sky.
Because they are unique. 39 They’re insightful and reflective-they like to take the lime to be alone and spend lime with their thoughts. They appreciate calm and quiet moments.
Because they’re strategic. Psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron’s and author of The Highly Sensitive Child fays highly sensitive children are “Quick to grasp small and not so obvious changes and generally behave conscientiously(勤勉地) ”. 40
    A. Because they’re emotional.
    B. Because they are creative.
    C. They’re going to do big things in this world.
    D. They try to build up those around them, not tear them down.
    E. They want to celebrate with them if they’re happy and excited.
    F. Their attention to detail is impressive and they think things thoroughly.
    G. They can often bring another perspective to the table because they tend to think differently.
    36. C。根据前文“They’re often old souls with big hearts who want to make other people happy.(他们通常是胸怀宽广的成熟的灵魂,想让别人快乐。)”以及标题“Why sensitive kids will make the world a better place?(为什么敏感的孩子会让世界变得更美好?)” C“They’re going to do big things in this world.(他们要在这世上做大事)”符合上文段意以及文章内容,故选C。
    37. D。根据下文“They believe in people and want to see them do well.(他们相信人们,希望看到他们一切都好。)” D“They try to build up those around them, not tear them down.(他们试图团结周围的人,而不是摧毁他们。)”
根据下文“Their creatively shines through in all they do, and ideas just come to them.(他们的创造性在他们所做的一切中闪耀,想法就这么来了。)” B“Because they are creative.(他们具有创造性)”正是此意,故选B。
    39. G。 G“They can often bring another perspective to the table because they tend to think differently. (他们经常能带来另一种观点,因为他们倾向于以不同的方式思考。)”中的think differently正对应了unique。故选G。
    40. F。根据上文“Psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron’s and author of The Highly Sensitive Child fays highly sensitive children are “Quick to grasp small and not so obvious changes and generally behave conscientiously(心理学家伊莱恩·阿伦博士是《高敏感儿童》一书的作者,他认为高敏感儿童“能迅速抓住微小的、不太明显的变化,通常表现得很认真。)”可知,敏感的孩子善于捕捉细节的变化。而这正和选项F“Their attention to detail is impressive and they think things thoroughly.(他们对细节的关注令人印象深刻,他们对事情思考透彻。)”中的“their attention to detail is impressive”相对应。故选F。

Have you heard of Wordle? It has gained millions of fans since its public launch in October, 2021. Here is something you might want to know about Wordle.

Wordle is a free word guessing game developed by Josh Wardle, a software engineer in Brooklyn. The aim of the game is to guess a 5-letter word. It is different from other word games because it can only be played once per day. The target word is the same for everyone that day, and a new word is released at midnight. 37 And while there is no official mobile app for Wordle, you can also play it by visiting the web page on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.
    How to play Wordle?
You have six attempts to guess a 5-letter word. Wordle will help you by giving clues along the way by changing the colors of each letter entered in the boxes. 38 If a letter is highlighted in green, it means that it's placed in the correct spot in the daily word. A yellow letter shows that it is in the daily target word, but in the wrong spot. Gray indicates that the letter is not in the target word at all.
    Wordle tips and tricks:
Choose a good starter word which contains at least three vowel (元音) letters. The goal of the starting guess is to narrow down the options for the remaining 5 guesses. Using three vowels is a great way to achieve that. 39
Consider possible words based on the results of your first guess. After you enter your first guess, there might be some yellow or green letters to work with. Think of some 5-letter words that contain those letters, but don't use any of the gray letters.
40 A yellow letter means that it is in the word of the day, but not in the right position. Consider the most common locations of the yellow letters in 5-letter words you know. For example, if you have a yellow "k" in the second position of your word, you might try placing it in the 5th position - many 5-letter words end with "ck".
Continue to enter your guesses until all the letters are green.
    A. What is Wordle?
    B. Who created Wordle?
    C. You can play Wordle on the web.
    D. Use as many letters in a real word as possible.
    E. Pay attention to the positions of yellow letters.
    F. So try to enter a multi-vowel word at your first attempt.
    G. After entering the five letters of your first guess, check their colors.
A 37. C 38. G 39. F 40. E

Earth Day, marked on April 22nd, is the perfect opportunity to think about how we can make the world a better place. 36 —like these small changes you can make to move towards a happier, healthier life that’s also kinder to the planet.
    Get outdoors.
Did you know that the average person only spends four hours a week playing outdoors? 37 . Why not visit a local park, forest or beach? ● 37 .
Think about a few things that scare you or make you nervous. Write them down in a list, and put a star next to the one you want to start with. You can handle the others later Rather than just thinking about it, coming up with specific ideas forces you to put these plans in motion.

Dealing with judgment from other people can be tough. 36 But you can cope with their criticism using positivity and sympathy. The tips below will show you the best ways to respond when someone judges you.
    37
Try not to take any judgmental words personally. Remember that a judgmental person’s words are a reflection of their own beliefs — and not yours. Remind yourself of all the things you do well, and keep a list of your best traits and achievements to boost your confidence.
    Be sympathetic.
38 It could be that they were judged themselves by parents, family, or friends, in which case this person’s critical attitude would be something they learned. While that doesn’t excuse their behavior, having compassion can inform your response. Say things like “I’m not sure I agree, but I understand your position and I’ll take time to think it over. Thank you for sharing.”
    Ask for clarification.
Judgmental people may not know they’re being rude or unreasonable. Ask this person to explain what they said, and find out their motivation for saying it. 39 Before you interpret this person’s words a certain way, make sure you know their true meaning and why they felt the need to judge you.
Calm down and respond rationally (理性地).
Being judged is never fun, and it’s natural for you to feel hurt and emotional right after it happens. 40 Getting defensive or judgmental in return is unlikely to help them see the error of their ways, and more likely to start a fight. If you get angry, take several deep breaths until you feel yourself calming down. Excuse yourself briefly if you need to. Take a quick walk, and return to the conversation when you feel ready.
    A. So you should stay collected.
    B. Separate yourself from the judgment.
    C. Judgmental people are just unavoidable.
    D. Try understanding the source of this person’s judgment.
    E. Think of each situation where you feel judged as a learning experience.
    F. Explain why their words have bothered you and make sure this doesn’t happen again.
    G. Some people have good intentions but end up sounding judgmental when they’re trying to help.
C37. B38. D39. G40. A
    36. C。根据空处下句“But you can cope with their criticism using positivity and sympathy.(但你可以用积极和同情来应对他们的批评)”可知,其中的criticism与C项“Judgmental people are just unavoidable.(品头论足的人是不可避免的)”中的Judgmental相呼应。故选C。
    37. B。 (Separate yourself from the judgment.)。故选B。
    38. D。根据空处下句“It could be that they were judged themselves by parents, family, or friends, in which case this person’s critical attitude would be something they learned.(可能是父母、家人或朋友对他们进行了评判,在这种情况下,这个人的批评态度可能是他们学到的东西)”可知,这里是对D选项“Try understanding the source of this person’s judgment.(试着理解这个人评价的原因)”的进一步解释,都是在介绍别人评价的起源和原因。故选D。
    39. G。根据空处前两句“Judgmental people may not know they’re being rude or unreasonable. Ask this person to explain what they said, and find out their motivation for saying it.(爱评判别人的人可能不知道他们是粗鲁的或不讲道理的。请这个人解释一下他们说了什么,并找出他们这么说的动机)”可知,这里是在介绍要去了解别人说话的动机。而G选项“Some people have good intentions but end up sounding judgmental when they’re trying to help.(有些人本意是好的,但在他们试图帮助别人的时候,却听起来像是在评判别人)”是对上两句做法的进一步解释。故选G。
    40. A。根据空处下句“Getting defensive or judgmental in return is unlikely to help them see the error of their ways, and more likely to start a fight.(以自卫或评判的方式作为回报,不太可能帮助他们看清自己的错误,反而更有可能引发争斗)”可知,以批判的态度去回击别人是不可取的做法,那相反,我们应该保持冷静(So you should stay collected),此处stay collected与小标题Calm down呼应。故选A。

When speaking of a party, it often means there will be a lot of fun. 36 This is especially true if you are running it on a budget. But as long as you are wise enough, it is possible for you to throw a party even if you don’t have deep pockets. Take these tips to help you.
Define your budget for the party. 37 For instance, if you only have 50 bucks, it is not a practical idea to buy new plates, glasses and the like. In that case, your money need to be saved for more important things in the party such as food and drink.
38 Seek the help of your friends to decide on a theme for the party. Set a date to make your own invitations and decorations. You can also check the Web for imagination when thinking of great party ideas without extra expense.
Ask for contributions from your guests. A party is not always something you have to shoulder all by yourself. 39 It is also a good idea to make a request for their support of items other than food such as napkins, and paper plates. With their help, your party will have a variety of good foods and adequate kitchenware without ever shouldering all the bills yourself. Don’t forget to show your appreciation.
Keep your attitude positive throughout the party. 40 Instead, entertain your guests with a smile, and the relaxing atmosphere will turn the party into a success. Even if it is within a budget, the most important thing about a party is to make it memorable and fun for everyone in attendance.
    A. Ask your friends to offer you a helping hand.
    B. Get your imagination going for the party.
    C. You can show your guests that you are enthusiastic.
    D. You can ask your guests to bring their speciality to the event.
    E. This way, you know what to buy for the party and what to set aside.
    F. You are never supposed to wear an apologetic look for not having much.
    G. This is not always the case, however, when it is your turn to throw a party.
    36. G。根据上文“When speaking of a party, it often means there will be a lot of fun.”(说到聚会,它通常意味着会有很多快乐。);再根据下文“This is especially true if you are running it on a budget.”(如果你的经费紧张的话,这一点尤其正确。) 所以G项“This is not always the case, however, when it is your turn to throw a party.”(然而,当轮到你开派对时,情况就不总是这样了。)
    37. E。根据上文“Define your budget for the party.”(确定你的派对预算。) 所以E项“This way, you know what to buy for the party and what to set aside.”(这样,你就知道该为聚会买什么,不该买什么。)
    38. B。根据下文“Seek the help of your friends to decide on a theme for the party. Set a date to make your own invitations and decorations. You can also check the Web for imagination when thinking of great party ideas without extra expense. ”(向你的朋友们寻求帮助,决定聚会的主题。设定一个日期,制作自己的请柬和装饰。你也可以在没有额外费用的情况下在网上寻找想象力。)可知,本段主要讲了,你可以向朋友咨询或者在网上搜索一些关于聚会的主题、制定邀请卡、装饰等信息。此空需要一个主旨句,所以B项“Get your imagination going for the party.”(发挥你的想象力吧。)
    39. D。根据上文“Ask for contributions from your guests. A party is not always something you have to shoulder all by yourself.”(向你的客人寻求资助。 所以D项“You can ask your guests to bring their specialty to the event.”(你可以让你的客人带他们的特产来参加活动。)
    40. F。根据上文“Keep your attitude positive throughout the party.”(在整个聚会中保持积极的态度。);再根据下文“Instead, entertain your guests with a smile, and the relaxing atmosphere will turn the party into a success.”(相反,用微笑来招待你的客人,轻松的气氛会使聚会成功。) 所以F项“You are never supposed to wear an apologetic look for not having much.”(你永远不应该因为没有准备太多而装出一副抱歉的样子。)

When you’re giving a speech to an audience, there isn’t a one-stop-shop approach that will address every individual. 36 You need to consider carefully the content at the planning stage of your speech.
37 Larger audiences often have little or no audience participation, so you need to ensure that your speech fills the time slot(空档) allocated. To attain the attention of a larger audience, your tone and body language is also more important, and maintaining eye contact with as many individuals is vital. 38 This means you’ll need to prepare enough material to fill the time slot if needed, but allow for questions or comments throughout while still delivering your message in the time you have.
The second hurdle to overcome is that you naturally have lots of different types of people in the room. 39 As a general rule, there are 4 different ways people learn: visual, auditory, reading and writing and kinaesthetic. Including elements of each learning style will help to engage more of your audience, and assist in connecting with different audiences.
Another way you’ll need to adapt your speech is whether you are addressing other experts in the same field, or if you are talking to beginners or an audience with limited knowledge. Targeting these two types of audience will be a bigger and more difficult task. 40 Trying to target both experts and beginners with the same speech could alienate(疏远) both parties and result in the loss of engagement completely.
    A. They learn and take in information in many different ways.
    B. You are talking to a particular age group, gender or profession.
    C. The most effective way is to create two versions of your speech.
    D. Audiences, large or small, are complex and have different requirements.
    E. Adapting your speech based on the audience size is your first action-point.
    F. No matter how much you prepare, you may find you are losing audience engagement.
    G. For smaller audiences they have more opportunity to be more conversational and relaxed.
D 37. E 38. G 39. A 40. C
36.上文“When you’re giving a speech to an audience, there isn’t a one-stop-shop approach that will address every individual.”(当你向听众发表演讲时,没有一种一站式的方法可以针对每个人。)
37.下文“Larger audiences often have little or no audience participation, so you need to ensure that your speech fills the time slot(空档) allocated.”(较大的听众通常很少或根本没有听众参与,因此您需要确保您的演讲占满时间段分配。)
38.下文“This means you’ll need to prepare enough material to fill the time slot if needed, but allow for questions or comments throughout while still delivering your message in the time you have.”(这意味着如果需要,你需要准备足够的材料来填补这段时间,但是在你所拥有的时间中传递信息的同时,要允许问题或评论。)
39.下文“As a general rule, there are 4 different ways people learn”(一般来说,有四种不同的学习方式)说明,听众会有不同的学习方式,A项“他们以许多不同的方式学习和吸收信息。” 故选A。
40、上文“Targeting these two types of audience will be a bigger and more difficult task.”(针对这两类受众将是一项更大、更困难的任务。)说明,针对初学者和专家这两类受众进行演讲是困难的,以及下文“Trying to target both experts and beginners with the same speech could alienate(疏远) both parties and result in the loss of engagement completely.”(试图用同一个演讲同时针对专家和初学者可能会疏远这两类听众,导致完全失去参与。)

    36. E。根据前文“Feeling tired and stressed? You are not alone.”(感到疲倦和压力? 所以可以推断出空处应该是进一步描述有这种疲倦和压力是正常的,E项“It’s normal to feel uninspired or unmotivated every now and then.”(时不时地感到没有灵感或没有动力是很正常的。)
    37. G。根据上文“Modest amounts of exercise first thing in the morning can set you up for a good day. You can do some jumping jacks, run for a few minutes, go for a bike ride or take your dog for a walk around the block.”(每天早上做的第一件事就是适量的运动,这样你就可以拥有一个美好的一天。 可知,每天早上要做适量的运动,结合本段的标题“Start your day with a short morning workout.”(每天早上花上很短的时间锻炼一下。)可知,空处应该是描述每天花很短时间锻炼也是有很多好处的,G选项“Even short exercise sessions of just 10 minutes can do wonders for your mood.”(即使只是10分钟的短时间锻炼,也能对你的心情产生奇迹般的效果。)
    38. F。根据上文“Clutter can easily cause stress-and stress contributes to poor sleep, which can also affect your overall productivity and general health.”(杂乱很容易导致压力——压力会导致睡眠不好,这也会影响你的整体生产力和健康。)可知,杂乱会对身体有害,结合下文“Reducing the “clutter” in our lives-physical, digital or psychological-allows us to deal with stressors head-on.”(减少我们生活中的“杂乱”——身体上的、数字上的或者心理上的——可以让我们直面压力源。)可知,空处应该是描写杂乱其他方面的坏处,即对心里的坏处,F选项“Besides, research also shows that clutter can be bad for your mental health.”(此外,研究还表明,杂乱无章对你的心理健康有害。)
    39. D。根据上文“This exercise focuses your attention on the positive experiences in your day and away from the negative.”(这个练习让你的注意力集中在你一天中积极的经历上,而不是消极的。)可知,此处描述了这个练习的好处,结合下文“You can practice this habit every night, right before you go to bed.”(你可以每晚睡觉前练习这个习惯。)
    40. A。根据文章结构可知,此空是标题,根据本段内容“Starting a new project you care about can be the healthy distraction(消遣) you need to improve your mood, reduce stress and increase your sense of accomplishment. You can use your mornings just before your normal work routine or an hour of your evening to accomplish some pretty amazing things.”(开始一个你关心的新项目是一种你所需要的对你身体有好处的消遣,这可以改善你的心情、减轻压力和提高成就感。

When talking to people about climate change, you might always get asked the question: What can you do to help as a consumer? Here are some specific steps you can take:
Sign up for a green pricing program with your electric utility. Some utility companies allow homes and businesses to pay extra for power from clean sources. When you participate in these programs, you’re telling your utility company that you’re willing to pay more to address climate. 36 Without that demand signal, the innovations that governments and businesses invest in will stay in the shelf.
37 Depending on how much money and time you can spare, you can replace your incandescent light bulbs with LEDs, install a smart thermostat, insulate your windows, buy efficient appliances, or replace your heating and cooling system with a heat pump.
Buy an electric vehicle (EV). EVs have come a long way in terms of cost and performance. Although they might not be right for everyone, they’re becoming more affordable for many consumers. 38 People buy lots of them, companies will make lots of them.
39 . Veggie burgers haven’t always tasted great. However, the new generation of plant-based protein alternatives is better and closer to the taste and texture of meat than their predecessors. 40 . In addition, eating a meat substitute just once or twice a week will cut down on the e-missions you’re responsible for. The same goes for dairy products.
    A. That’s cost-effective.
    B. Try a plant-based burger.
    C. Reduce your home’s emissions.
    D. That’s an important market signal.
    E. EVs are friendly to environment and easy to drive.
    F. You can find them in many restaurants and grocery stores.
    G. This is where consumers’ behavior can have a huge impact.
    36. D。根据上文“When you participate in these programs, you’re telling your utility company that you're willing to pay more to address climate.(当你参与这些项目时,你就是在告诉你的公用事业公司,你愿意花更多的钱来解决气候问题)”以及后文“Without that demand signal, the innovations that governments and businesses invest in will stay in the shelf.(如果没有需求信号,政府和企业投资的创新将被束之高阁)”可知,后文提到了需求信号,可知本句是在说明把上文参与这些项目看作一个信号,D选项中signal对应后文中signal。
    37. C。根据后文“Depending on how much money and time you can spare, you can replace your incandescent light bulbs with LEDs, install a smart thermostat, insulate your windows, buy efficient appliances, or replace your heating and cooling system with a heat pump.(取决于你能节省多少钱和时间,你可以用LED灯替换白炽灯,安装智能恒温器,给窗户隔热,购买高效电器,或者用热泵替换供暖和制冷系统)”可知,后文列举了一系列给家里减排的方法,故C选项“减少你家的排放量”符合语境,故选C。
    38. G。根据上文“Buy an electric vehicle (EV). EVs have come a long way in terms of cost and performance. Although they might not be right for everyone, they’re becoming more affordable for many consumers.(购买电动汽车。
    40. F。根据上文“However, the new generation of plant-based protein alternatives is better and closer to the taste and texture of meat than their predecessors.(然而,新一代的植物性蛋白质替代品比它们的前辈更好,更接近肉类的味道和质地)”可知,上文提到了新一代的植物性蛋白质的特性,故本句承接上文继续说明如何买到这些东西。
