On Sept 16, the Beijing Municipal Radi and Televisin Bureau als issued guidelines n regulating sky-high celebrity salaries and strengthening the management f the TV drama industry.
In May, Chinese actress Zheng Shuang was reprtedly paid 160 millin yuan ($24.6 millin) fr 77 days f filming fr her rle in A Chinese Ghst Stry, a TV series adapted frm a cllectin f supernatural stries set in ancient China. Her huge paycheck quickly triggered utrage n Chinese scial media.
The guidelines als pint ut that actrs' salaries shuld nt exceed 40 percent f the prductin csts fr film and TV wrk. Accrding t a reprt in Beijing Daily, the bureau has verified the prductin csts f 48 TV dramas, especially payments made t actrs and actresses.
Sme celebrities have evaded taxes by benefiting frm the dual-pay schemes, leading the regulatr t take actin. In August, Zheng was rdered t pay 299 millin yuan in unpaid taxes, verdue fees and fines, while in 2018, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing was rdered t pay 883 millin yuan t cver back taxes and fines.
The reprt said that by 2025, the ttal value f China's perfrming arts industry will reach 67.9 billin yuan.

Stars shuld use their influence prperly and nt cheat the gvernment, said Pan Yan, secretary-general f the China Assciatin f Perfrming Arts.
