一、读后续写
1.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A couple of months before I started high school, my parents gave me the greatest gift any teenage boy could ask for: a cellphone. I lived on that phone all summer with my face buried in its screen. I ignored my family and my surroundings (周围事物). Being connected was more important than being present.
So, you can imagine my displeasure when I learned what my dad had planned for our family vacation that year. “This year,” my dad said, “we’ll be doing something special. We’re going camping!” His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh (叹气). It wasn’t my dream vacation because mind was on my phone. I was so buried in the screen, in fact, that the first time I can remember truly looking up was when we drove across a bridge on the way to our campsite.
I stared out the window and saw redwoods towering above us, their branches threatening to pierce (刺破) the blue sky. I saw a roaring river, with slivers of silky black water appearing between crashing white rapids. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot. But none of that mattered to me. The reason I had looked up was for something far more serious: my phone no longer had service.
The last hour of the drive was increasingly tense. My dad announced that he had chosen a campsite that had no cell service, and that my phone would be useless until we returned home. I would be trapped in the forest for four days with no way to contact the outside world! I went through the full cycle of teenage emotions during the first day of the trip. I raged (发怒). I bargained. I begged. I flip-flopped (转变) from a depressive state to anger and back.
I went to bed angrily that night. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.

1. 所续写短文的词数应为 150 左右;

【答案】Para 1:
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else: my surroundings. I let the noise of the wilderness wash over me, animals and bugs creating a ruckus that was both loud and serene at the same time. My anger turned to peace, then little interest and, finally, excitement. Standing on the high campsite, I felt the weight of stress melt from my shoulders as I viewed the vast expanse that unfolded below me. The sight that met my startled eyes nearly took my breath away. For the first time, I thought camping in a place that had no cell service might not be so bad.
Para 2:
The next four days passed in a flash with many fun activities. I hiked. I swam. I fished. My dad and I learned how to start a fire together after several false starts. We cooked together and I ate the sweetest marshmallows I had ever tasted. Dad told me stories of his life, stories I had never heard or perhaps I hadn’t been listening. When the weekend came to an end, I realized I hadn’t thought of my phone once. I hadn’t felt the need to be connected to anywhere else. It dawned on me that what mattered most were the moments I was sharing with just my father and nature.

2. His father said, “All set, boy?” and Jeremy nodded, picking up his gun with awkward gloved hands. His father pushed open the door and they went out into the freezing dawn together. Ordinarily Jeremy would take out his camera to record the scenery, but not this morning. This was the morning, particularly sacred, when 14-year-old Jeremy would go duck hunting for the first time.
However, he hated it, and had hated the whole idea since his father bought him a gun. But he was determined to go through with it. He loved his father, and wanted his approval more than anything in the world.
They came to a narrow and hidden place facing the bay. Jeremy sat down nervously and waited. To reduce fear, he took a picture of his father against the clean water. Then he put the camera hurriedly on the grass and picked up his gun.
Jeremy got his gun ready. “I'll let you shoot first,” his father said, loading his own gun. “You know, I've been waiting for a long time for this day. Just the two of us..."He broke off, bending forward, eyes narrowed. “There's a small flight heading this way now. Keep your head down. I'll give you the word.”
The sun came out. Jeremy could see everything clearly: his father's face, tense and eager; the white frost on the gun. His heart was beating wildly. He prayed, “Don't let them come, please!”
But they kept coming. "Four black,” his father said. “One mallard.” High above, Jeremy heard the pulsing whistle of wings as the flight began to circle. The mallard was leading, his feet dropping down, reaching for the silver-colored water. Closer, closer... “Get set,” his father whispered.
“Now!” cried Jeremy's father. “Take them!”
Jeremy felt his body obey. He stood up, holding the gun. In the same instant, the wild ducks saw the gunners and flew. “Shoot!” said something sharply in Jeremy's brain. But up went the mallard higher still, until suddenly he caught the full force of the wind and flew away, out of range.

3.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
She was dancing. My crippled(跛脚的) grandmother was dancing. I stood in the living room doorway absolutely shocked.
I heard her sing when I opened the door but did not want to interrupt the beautiful song, so I just tiptoed (用脚尖走)to the living room. I looked at how her body bent beautifully, her arms greeting the sunlight that was pouring through the window. And her legs.... Those legs that had stiffly (僵硬地) walked with a cane (拐杖)now obeyed her perfectly with beautiful dancing shoes! No limping! No stiffness! Just beautiful, fluid motion! She used to be the pet of the dancing world but later she’d had her accident and it was all over. I had read that in an old newspaper.
She turned around in a slow circle and saw me standing in the doorway. Her song and beautiful movements ended. The sudden silence rang in my ears. Grandma looked so much like a kid caught with her hand in a cookie jar that I couldn’t help myself, and a slightly nervous laughter escaped. Grandma sighed and turned toward the kitchen. I followed her, not believing my eyes. She was walking with no difficulties in her beautiful shoes. We sat down by the table and cut ourselves big pieces of her delicious peach pie.
“So ....” I asked “ how did your leg heal (治愈) ?”
“To tell you the truth --my legs have been well all my life ,” she said.
“But I don’t understand!” I said. “Your dancing career..... I mean.... You pretended all these years?”
“Very much so,” Grandmother closed her eyes and tasted the peach pie, “and for a very good reason.”
“What reason ?”
“ Your grandfather .”
“You mean he told you not to dance ?”
“No, this was my choice. I am sure I would have lost him if I had continued dancing. I weighed fame and love against each other and love won.”

4.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
As children, my brothers and I constantly annoyed our mother. When we combined forces, we had the power to make that sweet, loving woman go mad.
One day, I arrived home from school feeling overheated, exhausted, and angry with my brothers for being kicked out of the car and walking home alone. Taking a few steps inside, I dropped my books and realized the house was a little too quiet. Looking around, my anger turned to weariness, and suddenly I felt a fierce stream of water glide across my shirt. Before I realized what happened, another blasted me directly in the face. I dove behind the couch as I heard my brothers yell, “Water fight!”
Running to the other side of the room where my own water gun was hidden beneath a loose floorboard, loaded and ready to go, I grabbed it and congratulated myself on being prepared in advance.
Instantly, my anger with my brothers disappeared, and I eagerly joined in the water spraying. We didn’t stop until we were nearly wet all over and out of water. Calling a truce, we decided to team up and take on a larger, more dangerous enemy. While taking turns reloading our weaponry, we hatched our plan.
Our mother was outside watering the garden, totally unaware of the danger approaching her from behind. We silently counted to three and began showering her with water. She turned around and stood still as we finished the last of our supply. Only when she thought our guns were empty did she dare to speak a word. However, when she began to lecture us, a water ‘bullet’ shot from my gun, smacking(猛击) her right eye, and she lost her temper.
We ran to the living room with our mother close behind and barely reached the door in time to shut her out. She began pounding on it and shouting at us to let her in, but we had no idea that this was all an act. She actually had her own plan.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
She decided to hatch her own plan. She pretended to go back to water the garden. We refilled our guns and decided to keep the trick going. We would take turns slightly opening the door, spraying her, and then quickly shutting and re-locking it. Every time, she would play the angry mother role, but inside she was calmly waiting for an opening. Our confidence grew as we successfully sprayed her. We would leave the door open for longer periods each time, laughing at her.
Paragraph 2:
When we left the door open for too long, she took action. With the water pipe in hand, she swiftly flew through the door and sprayed us and the entire living room. Under the strong water, my brothers and I were too shocked to move and had to give in. My mother said calmly, “When you attack others, you should be prepared to withstand stronger attack. Now, the game is over. It’s time for you to clean up the battlefield.”

My dad, George, only had an eighth grade education. A quiet man, he didn’t understand my world of school activities. From age 14. he worked. And his dad, Albert, took the money my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.
I didn’t really understand his world either: He was a livestock trucker, and I thought that I would surpass anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation. Summers in the mid-70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback on a football team. In poor weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone. The summer before my eighth grade I was one of a group of boys that a neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task, the tractor fired up and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a short way, the farmer stopped and pointed at a weed which we missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but we soon learned to identify different grasses like cockleburs, lamb’s-quarters, foxtails, and the king of weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work, but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn’t sure how much it would amount to.
At home, my dad said, “A job’s a big step to growing up. I’m glad you will be contributing to the household.” My dad’s words made me realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished.
My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I wasn’t interested. I decided it was not fair that I had to contribute my money.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
The pay day arrived at last. Although the job was very tiring, I was very happy in my heart for I got something from my work. The toil of labor was forgotten for the time being. I thought I should have my own money and planned how to spend it. “How much money have you earned?” Dad asked. I was surprised, reluctant to say my income. The next morning, my dad’s livestock truck started running. I saw my father’s hard-working figure and thought of his words “A job’s a big step to growing up”.
Paragraph 2:
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. They were worried that I was too selfish to give. I realized that my labor was very hard, but my growth and our whole family had been depending on the hard work of my parents! Dad never complained about unfairness! He even seemed to think that was fair. I thought, “I’ve only worked for two weeks, but how many years my father has worked!” In the evening, Dad came back. I proudly took out my own money and handed it to Dad.

As any younger brother will tell you, having a big brother involves a lot of walking in someone else’s shadow, especially when you have a brother who is a typical example of “cool”. For years I wanted to do everything my elder brother Tyson did, but no matter how hard I tried, I was always the neglected one. My legs just weren’t made to run like his. I could never play football or basketball well.
Paragraph 1: I probably would have continued trying to keep up with him for the rest of my high school career, but when my family moved, everything changed. Tyson left for college,

I don’t know what made me decide to try some new activities at the new school, but one day I chanced to show up for an after-school meeting of the Science Olympiad team.I had always been fascinated with chemistry, biology, and math, but since those interests hadn’t fit Tyson’s definition of “cool”, I had never pursued them.On this day, for some reason, I did.

This new start gave me an opportunity to redefine myself and discover an entirely new version of “cool”.
Paragraph 2:
As we organized teams, prepared resources and practiced answering questions, I felt more connected than I ever had to any sports team. I didn’t feel as though I needed to keep up with anybody else; I was finally with peers who understood me. It was so good to feel accepted for what I’m good at. For the first time in my life, I actually felt cool. Now I know who I am! I’m Tyson’s little brother, but that’s only part of my identity. I’m a cool guy in my own way, too. I’m relieved to know that “cool” has a much broader definition than what I used to think.

It was on a Christmas Eve when I was five years old that my dad upon arriving home from work, informed my mom and me that he would be working the next day, Christmas Day.
My dad, who was the manager of his work station, calmly explained that although he was not scheduled to work, he volunteered to do so.
My mom was visibly upset. “Ren, you work on Christmas day every year. Man, you are not making any Christmas memories with these kids. ”The rest of the evening we were discouraged. My mom and I were both very upset with Daddy.
I awoke on Christmas morning to the sounds of Christmas songs on our huge radio that was stationed in the living room. Mom and Dad were joking about something or the other there. She had apparently forgiven him sometime over the course of the night.
It was Christmas Day! I ran straight for the living room to wish my mom, dad and brother the merriest Christmas ever! After we all greeted each other, we began our usual Christmas morning ritual (仪式): Dad read the Christmas story. After the Christmas story, it was time to dig into the presents under the tree. It was the pink kitchen set, complete with tiny plastic pots, pans, plates, cups and a whole stove in it. It was exactly what I wanted and I was thrilled.
After breakfast, my dad departed.
My mom started on Christmas Dinner. I wanted to help her but I was too distracted (注意力分散的) cooking my own imaginary meal on my new kitchen set. But soon I was bored with that and I joined my mother in the kitchen. “Mom, why does Daddy never get a turn to get a holiday on Christmas?” I asked. However, my mom did not give me a satisfactory answer.

The rest of the day flew slowly without Dad.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I decided to ask Dad why he chose not to celebrate with us every year.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 The rest of the day flew slowly without Dad. During lunch when we carved the turkey, Dad wasn’t here; at night when my aunts and cousins stopped by, he wasn’t here; when we were enjoying the laughter, he completely missed it. Christmas Day came and gone and I felt pitiful for my dad. For me, volunteering to work on Christmas every year equalled that I preferred to go to school rather than take Christmas vacation. I was puzzled about Dad’s choice.
I decided to ask Dad why he chose not to celebrate with us every year. Hardly had my dad arrived home the next day when I couldnt wait to ask. Daddy’s response impressed me a lot. Christmas is a happy time with great memories filled with love and family. The other employees all wanted the day off. It was he, the manager of the station that should bear the responsibility. Only if he led the role could more people spend a happier Christmas. Dad's selflessness quality has a lasting effect on me.

Birthdays were always a lot of fun, even though there was no money for store-bought gifts. Nearly all of toys he and his sister had were homemade. There was nothing wrong with that, he knew. Like many families in this part, they were poor.
This birthday would be different, though. Alice was older now, and he’d seen how her eyes lit up when she saw the new doll at Honey House, a neighborhood store just down the road from their house.
How he longed for her to have it! An idea finally came to him just before he went to bed. After a quick breakfast the following morning, he tied a bag to the handlebars of his bike and headed toward a village hill.
After a long journey, he reached his destination, the mango forest. There were already two other boys there. Tony grabbed his bag and set to work immediately.
The sun was high overhead. The weather was hot and nearly all of the taller trees held ripe mangoes but they were well beyond reach. Tony struggled to climb the trees to pick mangoes, though he fell off many times.
His efforts were sometimes rewarded when a mango dropped into the bag. After a while his neck ached from looking upward, and his arms grew sore. He kept at it, though, and by late afternoon his bag was nearly full.

Paragraph 2:
The following morning, Alice walked into the kitchen and took a seat at the breakfast table. She noticed a beautiful box on the table. Curious, she opened the box carefully. Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks.
One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.

The passengers on the bus watched with sympathy as Susan made her way carefully up the steps. She paid the driver and then, using her hands to feel the seats, settled in one of them.
It had been a year since Susan became blind. As the result of an accident she was suddenly thrown into a world of darkness. Susan’s husband Mark watched her sink into hopelessness and he was determined to use every possible means to help his wife.
Finally, Susan felt ready to return to her job, but how would she get there? She used to take the bus, but she was now too frightened to get around the city by herself. Mark volunteered to ride the bus with Susan each morning and evening until she could manage it by herself.
For two weeks, Mark accompanied Susan to and from work each day. He taught her how to rely on her other senses, specifically her hearing, to determine where she was and how to adapt to her new environment.
At last, Susan decided that she was ready to try the trip on her own. Monday morning arrived. Before she left, she hugged her husband tightly, her eyes filled with tears of gratitude (感激). She said good-bye and, for the first time, they went their separate ways. Each day went perfectly, and a wild excitement took hold of Susan. She was doing it!

Jenny was the only child in her family. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn't help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh, yes, but I don't have money on me,” she replied.
“That's nothing. I'll treat you today,” said the man.“Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears.
“Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother's familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn't I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted. Why haven't I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?”
On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.

My parents do okay but we are by no means wealthy.I think we are comfortable in our daily basic needs but we definitely have no room for luxuries. But when it comes to our dinner,my mom will always make 3 dishes for dinner without failure. It’s almost like eating in a restaurant.I have to admit I was spoiled by my mom when it comes to my eating habits and have high expectations when eating somewhere else.
One day my mom came back from work in the office and she was really in bad mood. She was complaining about how untidy we are and we (my siblings) never contributed in the household chores. To me that is not a fair statement as my elder brother and I took turns to wash the dishes.I was also given the privileged of ironing my mom and dad’s office attire each week.I was 14 at that time and being a boy,I have no intention of letting my friends know. Most of my friends have a maid to do all this but my parents simply couldn’t afford one.

I grew up in a big city. But as a child,I often spent my summer holidays in the countryside of Mississippi where my grandparents lived. And I can still clearly remember one of my great summer experiences there.
During the summer when I was five years old, my parents decided to pay a visit to my grandparents. So I would spend my holiday in my grandparents house again, and I was glad about it. On a cool Saturday morning, my parents and I set out. About one hour later, we left the big city crowded with buildings. people and noises and entered a world with farmlands. Seated in my dad's car, with fresh wind blowing across my face, I was happy and excited the whole way.
After a long time of driving, we finally arrived at the area where my grandparents’ house was. Their house lied in a quiet village. The scenery (风景) alongside the road was really great. When my father pulled up in front of my grandparents’ house, I rushed into their room to see them. After a warm conversation, I left and walked outside into the backyard of their house to enjoy myself.Oh!There was an orchard (果园).
I was drawn by a group of chicks there. They were walking around and chirping(哪唧地叫),happily searching for food on the ground. They were so lovely and lively. Suddenly, the thought of catching one and keeping it as a pet came to me. Wondering whether my grandparents would allow it, I entered the living room to ask them. “You can own one as long as you're able to catch it. But there's a big chance that you won't make it. If you need any help, tell us," said my grandpa with a big smile.“Trust me, Grandpa. I don't think it'll be difficult to catch one,” I replied in a confident voice. “Don't get any chick injured. Remember it,” my mother said.

Raelene seemed to be in trouble with her mother. It seemed like her mother was screaming all the time. Raelene couldn't bear it. She tried to keep to herself and out of her mother's way. At times she shut herself in her room but her mother would follow her in, still shouting at her and telling her to do things.
One day, when her mother had been screaming, Raelene went outside to get away from it all. Her pet dog, Crystal, came running up to her, tail wagging, but Raelene had had enough and screamed at Crystal. Crystal dropped her tail between her legs and turned around to run off, looking for a place to hide. Raelene saw how Crystal had run away when she screamed. She thought how it was like what she did when her mother screamed at her.
At school, Raelene was studying science and had learned about experiments, so she decided to carry out an experiment with Crystal. She sat down on the ground, closer to Crystal's height where she could see Crystal's nose and eyes peeping (偷看) around the corner of the house. Raelene began to talk to Crystal in a soft, gentle voice. This was the experiment. What she said and how she said it were different. Her words said Crystal was a bad dog for running away and hiding. However, she said it in a gentle, loving, and caring voice. Soon Crystal moved out from around the corner and came back with her tail wagging and her whole body full of excitement.
Raelene continued her experiment. She now told Crystal what a good dog she was and how she was the only person who seemed to understand Raelene-- but how she did it was in a loud, shouting voice. Crystal again dropped her tail between her legs and ran around the corner.
“This is interesting,” thought Raelene. She now used the same loving words in a gentle, loving voice. Again Crystal emerged and rested her head on Raelene's lap.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After that Raelene began to experiment when her mother was screaming.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Raelene continued to experiment with different things. She made her speech fast as though she sounded excited or slow like she was sad, loud like she was angry or soft as if it was comforting. Crystal responded to the sound of her voice, or how she said something, rather than the actual words, or what she said. Raelene began to wonder if this was how she was responding to her mother. Was she escaping from the screaming, like Crystal, and not hearing the actual words her mother was saying.
After that Raelene began to experiment when her mother was screaming. It wasn't always easy and she had to frequently remind herself: Listen to the words rather than the screaming; hear what she is saying rather than how she is saying it. In that way, she could hear what was asked of her and do what was necessary to avoid getting into trouble so much. She wasn't so sure if her approach worked, but she found her mother was screaming less.

Exactly, I thought. Nobody I knew was going to pile into an old van, and drive from California to New York and back in 58 days. Fifty — eight days! That was practically my whole summer! But I knew it was useless to protest.
When Dad was offered a summer off for the first time in his career, he said that he would always dreamed of driving across the country. So we were going. That was Dad’s chance.
I picked up my cat, Max, and buried my face in his fur. He pawed at my ears playfully. Goodbye, summer vacation. Goodbye, diving at the lake. Goodbye to hanging out and doing absolutely nothing. Good bye, Max. I was going to miss this ball of fur. I put him down and laughed as he batted a button across the floor like a soccer player. He was interested in all small objects.
The closer the trip got, the harder it was going to ignore. Thick envelopes arrived from places like Indiana, Tennessee and Arkansas. Night after night, Mom and Dad huddled around the computer, plotting every inch of our 8,000-mile journey.
Three days after school got out, The Trip finally came. Everything was packed and ready to go. Mom said that we are supposed to leave at 9 a. m. But when Dad noticed a wet spot under the van, I realized we wouldn’t be going anywhere for a while. Dad crawled under the van. Car parts sprang up around the van like mushrooms.
Minutes turned into hours. By the time Dad gave Mom the news, it was late afternoon. “I fixed the leak.” said Dad, “But now I couldn’t find one of the fan bolts (螺栓).” Mom organized a search, but in vain.

【答案】One possible version
Dad called the stores but none carried the bolt that fitted this old van. I sighed. Maybe we were not going on The Trip after all. My soul silently rejoiced (深感欣喜)— I could have a regular summer vacation as usual! But then I saw Dad. He was leaning over the engine, his hands black with oil. His dream— The Trip of a lifetime — was vanishing before his eyes. I couldn’t bear to see Dad so disappointed. I stared at the lifeless van, wondering where that bolt could be.
Then it hit me. “Max!” I shouted, “Find Max!” With not knowing why, everyone hurried to look for the cat. I found him in a corner. He was batting something around — the bolt! I grabbed it and waved it like a flag. Dad’s face lit up. An hour later, I was in the van with my family. “Thanks!” Dad said. I smiled. As our van drove down the freeway, I thought this trip might not be so bad after all. Goodbye, old summer vacation. Hello… trip of a lifetime.

Grandfather was a wise and honorable man. His house was not far from ours, and I would visit him often going home after school.
No matter how rotten I had been, 1 could tell Grandpa anything. My secrets were safe. He always understood. He loved me.
I remember a time when a bunch of us were playing baseball in the field behind Mrs. Ferguson's house. I hit one pitch (投) just right and . . . slam! It was a home run that soared (急升) high and away, and ended up breaking Old Lady Ferguson's kitchen window! We all ran!
Walking home, my best friend, Tom, asked, “How will she ever know who did it? She's blinder than a bat!” I decided to stop by Grandpa's. He must have known something was up by the expression on my face. I felt ashamed. I wanted to hide. I wanted to bang my head against a tree a thousand times and make the world just go away- as if punishing myself could undo things. I told him about it.
He knew we had been warned many times about the dangers of playing where we shouldn't. But he just listened.
“I was wrong, I told him, with my head down. “I hate myself for what I did. I really blew it. Is there a way out? Will she call the police?”
“Well,” he said, “she has a problem, just like you. I'll bet if she knew you cared, she would be sad to know that you're afraid of her. I'll bet she wishes you would give her a chance... a chance to be understanding, It's your decision, ” he said, shrugging his shoulders. “Just so I don't say the wrong thing, is the plan to pretend nothing happened? 【答案】 Grandpa asked,"If you were Mrs. Ferguson, what would you do?” I remained silent for a while and had no idea what I should say. I felt a bit nervous and at a loss. I could not imagine what Mrs. Ferguson would do if she knew the truth. "Maybe if I were her, I would expect that the boy who did wrong should stand out to tell the truth and face the consequence bravely." I said with such a low voice that I could barely hear myself. But deep in my heart, I knew that it was the right thing.
“Doing what's right is not always easy, ” Grandpa said, handing me the phone. I gathered all my strength and bravery and took it. I dialed her number and deep in my mind I imagined all the bad situations I could face. However, when I confessed what I had done and said that I called her to say sorry, she just smiled and said she had already known it. She praised me because I called her to apologize. Hearing this, I felt relieved and understood that it was actually not so difficult to do the right thing.

Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel (争吵) with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She stood in front of a shop which sold noodles for several minutes, but she had to leave. The seller of the noodle shop came out and noticed the young girl.
“Hey, girl, you want to have noodles?”
“Oh, yes, but I have no money on me,” she replied.
“Oh, that's nothing. I’ll treat you today,” the owner said, “come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly,
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, 'while my mother drove me out of the house.
Have you expressed your thanks to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock. She remembered mother's familiar face and weathered hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted (感激的), but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man waited for signs that his father had bought the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his study. His father said lovingly, “My dear son, I am so proud of you. But I hope you can remember: never spoil what you have by desiring what you have not. Sometimes we don’t realize the good fortune we have because we expect ‘the packaging’ to be different. What may appear as bad fortune may in fact be the door that is just waiting to be opened.” The young man paid no attention to his father’s words and responded impatiently, “OK, I know. Now, where is my gift, Dad?” His father handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name pressed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money, you give me a Bible?” He then stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful wife and a lovely son, but realizing his father was very old, he thought perhaps he should go to see him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make the arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and left all of his possessions to his son in his will. He needed to come home immediately and take charge.

【答案】One possible version:
When the young man arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. Overwhelmed by such feelings, he abandoned himself to the memory of Graduation Day. He well remembered how much he wanted the sports car and how terribly he behaved. What an ignorant and selfish man he was! The more he recalled that day, the deeper his heart sank. How desperately he wanted to go back to that day, listening to what his father said attentively and cherishing the beautifully wrapped gift.
The young man came into his father’s study again and he began to search for the Bible. Effortlessly, he spotted it at the centre of the desk. With a heavy heart, he turned the pages. A key taped to the first page suddenly came into his sight. It hit him that it was a key for his dream car. He was shocked, rooted to the ground. Beside the key, there were some words: “Packaging shouldn’t be the barrier to block you. I’m glad you understand it. Love you always, my son.” Tears blurred his eyes. The best and the most valuable things cannot be seen or touched for they must be felt with heart.

20.阅读下面短文,根据其内容和段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Fifteen years ago, I was born in a big family. I had been taught that money couldn't buy everything ever since I was a little kid. My parents are the most hard-working people I have ever seen. As much as my parents tried to teach me these values, some could only be learned through personal experiences.
As a child, I would sit in the church trying to concentrate on the words of the priest (牧师), but my attention was soon attracted by the shining gold and the diamonds worn by the Saturday churchgoers. As my eyes began to wander, I noticed men dressed in their tailored suits and shirts accompanied by women in their designer dresses with matching handbags and shoes.
My family, on the other hand, was the opposite of rich. Our hand-me-down clothes had been washed so many times that the colors had become dull and lifeless. Although this revealed the money struggles of our large family, our faces were always washed and hair neatly combed. When sitting on the old big red and white truck after the service, I pictured the lives led by those driving their brand-new cars, wishing I would be one of them.
I never stopped those fantasies, even when I was in middle school. Since it was a private school, most of the children came from wealthy families. As a result, I constantly felt ashamed. Although I could hide my lack of wealth at school by wearing our school uniforms, my poverty was embarrassingly apparent on weekends with my classmates wearing designer jeans and I had no choice but to wear my sisters’ old jeans. I never fitted in with my classmates. To my relief, there was only one girl named Julie who opened her heart to me. I was attached to her like a shadow. Soon, her birthday was approaching. Julie invited me to attend her birthday party.

【答案】One possible version:
However, I grew upset as I couldn't afford a gift. It would be such an embarrassing scene to be present without a gift. I even thought about quitting, but I was not able to bring it forth. I struggled for days but couldn't figure out any solution. One day, while helping with my hardworking parents with the housework, it suddenly occurred to me that maybe I could make a gift by myself. I immediately started my DIY project, which ended up with a toy doll. The big day finally came. I arrived at her house and handed her the box.
When she opened the gift box, my heart was too nervous to beat. I looked closely at her face, wondering if she would just laugh at me. What happened next was totally beyond my imagination. Upon seeing the doll, Julie let out a cry of excitement and she held it close to her face, saying repeatedly that it was the sweetest gift she had ever received. Her words freed me. I couldn't help smiling together with her. At that precious moment, I realized money couldn’t buy everything. It was our friendship that really mattered.
