The other day I heard a few local musicians talking:
“I hate all the terrible pianos in this town. I hate that rubbish they play on the radio. They can’t even understand a bit of music.”
“I’m never playing in that club again. Too many drunks and nobody listens to us.”
But, one younger musician said, “There are a few clubs that book my band a few nights a month, and I’m trying to find other places to play. I’m also looking to book a few summer festivals this year.”
I’ve heard that you are the average of the five people whom you spend the most time with, or to put it another way, you are who your friends are.
Attitudes are important. Whether they’re positive or negative, they’re rubbing off on you . If you’re around people who complain about lack of work and about other musicians, or blame others, and you play the role of victim, chances are you will start to as well. So it’s time to take a look at the people you call “friends”.
This is an easy exercise: Make a list of the people who you hang out with, and simply stop spending time with the negative people on your list. Set a new standard for yourself and don’t become friends with people who fall below that standard.
Keep successful people around you and your own chances for success will be much better. Ask them how they do it. Ask if they will help you get the work you’re looking for, or maybe give you some advice to help you on your career path.

26.The musicians’ words at the beginning are written mainly to show ______.
A.the musicians’ living conditions are quite poor
B.people have poor taste in music
C.people have different attitudes towards the same thing
D.young people have greater chances of succeeding
27.The passage is mainly written for ______.
A.musicians B.managers
C.negative people D.people wanting to succeed
C
A 16-year survey on the arctic Norwegian island of Svalbard found the reindeer(驯鹿)there have declined in weight by an alarming 12 percent. The reduction in average body-mass is being blamed on global warming.
In research presented lately at a meeting of the British Ecological Society in Liverpool, scientists will explain how rising temperatures are making female reindeer difficult to obtain nutrients during important periods of being pregnant.
Snow in Svalbard typically covers the ground for eight months of the year, which, combined with low temperatures, limits grass growth to June and July. But as summer temperatures have increased by around 1.5℃, grasslands have become more productive, allowing female reindeer to gain more weight by the autumn and therefore to conceive(孕育)more calves.
However, warmer winters have brought with them greater rainfall which freezes when is settles on the snow, therefore locking out the reindeer from the life-supporting food below. As a result, female reindeer are becoming starved, causing them to give birth to much lighter young. The average mass of an adult reindeer in 1998, when the survey began, was 55kg, but by 2016 IT had dropped to 48kg.
Professor Steve Albon, an ecologist at the James Hatton Institute in Aberdeen , said that, because the mammals have a relatively high surface-area-to-volume ratio(表面积与体积比), they are no particularly energy efficient.
Reindeer can often access the inadequate food sources beneath the snow by clearing IT away with their antlers(鹿角), but they cannot break through the hard ice. Without access to the food in winter, calves are being born far lighter than they should be. Numbers of reindeer have also increased rapidly in the past 20 years, meaning that those which are born are facing greater competition for food. “The implication(含义)are that there may well be more smaller reindeer in the Arctic in the coming decades, but possibly at the risk of catastrophic die-offs because of increased ice on the ground,”said Professor Albon Despite the gloomy findings, reindeer appear to be suffering less from the impact of climate change than some other arctic species.
28.Which of the following may be the most important reason for the smaller reindeer?
A.Heavy snow.
B.Greater rainfall.
C.Hard ice.
D.Global warming.
29.According to the passage, rising temperatures will not lead to_________.
A.grass growing more rapidly in summer
B.more rainfall in the arctic area in winter
C.female reindeer’s gaining more weight in winter
D.female reindeer’s suffering from hunger in winter
30.What does the underlined word“gloomy”in the last paragraph mean?
A.Exciting.
B.Optimistic.
C.Disappointing.
D.Doubtful.
31.How does the writer develop the passage?
A.By analyzing the research.
B.By classification of reindeer.
C.By comparing opinions of experts.
D.By telling stories of different species.
D
Those of us making grand travel plans might want to consider the final frontier as a destination. That’s because Orbital Assembly Corporation, a new construction company run by former pilot John Blincow, is planning to open a luxury space hotel by 2027. Voyager Station, as it’s being called, would accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members while aiming to be the first commercial space hotel upon completion.
“We’re trying to make the public realize that this golden age of space travel is just around the corner. It’s coming. It’s coming fast,” Blincow said in an interview. The golden age of space travel is coming indeed, as space tourism has drawn the attention of Richard Branson and Elon Musk. And it’s the latter that Blincow and his team hope to partner in the near future. “We cannot call Musk’s SpaceX our partner, but in the future we look forward to working with them,” Blincow said.
The physics involved in sleeping within a space hotel is similar to spinning water in a bucket. Much in the same way one can spin a bucket in a circle, keeping the water inside of it, the space hotel would simulate gravity in a similar manner. This makes comfortable rooms and stylish bar experiences possible.
But for many visitors who venture so far, feeling the weightlessness of space is a big part of the appeal. The team plans to serve traditional space food such as freeze-dried ice cream in the hotel’s restaurant. There are plans for recreational activities such as basketball games where participants can soar higher due to the weightlessness of the environment.
For now, the space hotel isn’t commenting on its room rate, but comparing it to other proposed public space missions, it will come at a high cost. For example, Virgin Galactic plans to take ordinary passengers into space at $250,000 per person, per trip. The team at Voyager Station, however, has already assured the public that they plan to eventually make a stay at the hotel something similar to buying a cruise ticket.
32.What can we know about Voyager Station?
A.It aims to train pilots. B.It has been put into use.
C.It’s the name of a spaceship. D.It is still under construction.
33.Why are Richard Branson and Elon Musk mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To show the popularity of them. B.To stress the coming of space travel.
C.To list Blincow’s partners at present. D.To show examples of space agencies.
34.The third paragraph focuses on ________.
A.stylish bars B.water in a bucket
C.space travel experience D.the physics involved in the space hotel
35.Which of the following may attract visitors greatly when living in the space hotel?
A.Its price. B.Its room rate.
C.Feeling the weightlessness of space. D.Playing basketball games with famous players.

According to recent surveys, nowadays most students don’t get enough sleep. The reasons are as follows. Firstly, they’re addicted to playing with their cell phones before sleeping. Secondly, they have too much homework. Take me for instance, with much homework to do, I can seldom go to bed before 12 o’clock every night.
As we all know, lacking sleep is bad for their health both physically and mentally, which will surely have a bad effect on their studies. Therefore, the policy that students are not allowed to use cell phones in school should be carried out strictly. Moreover, less homework should be given to students. Only in this way can they have a healthy life.
