June 2nd is Sandra’s 25th birthday. Sandra has been our best friend for a long time. For this wonderful friend, I plan to have a different party to celebrate her special day. We all know that Sandra is a big fan of Detective(侦探) Conan, so the party is named Who Took Away the Ring.

I don’t know what’s wrong with my brain. My memory started to become shockingly complete in 1974, when I was eight years old. From 1980 on, it has been near perfect. Give me a date from that year forward, and I can immediately tell you what day of the week it was, what I did on that day, and what happened on that day.
I can recall memories at will. But my remembering, in fact, is not under my control. My memories automatically (自动地) flash forward and backward in my head through the years of my life. What does it feel like? Well, just imagine this: Someone started to make videos of you when you were a child, and has been continuously following you around all day, every day. This person has placed all of these videos onto a single DV D, and you are being forced to watch it over and over again. There you are as a ten-year-old in your living room watching your favorite TV. program. Then, suddenly, you’re on the beach during a family vacation when you were twelve. I never know what I might remember next.
As I grew up, a great many new memories were being stored in my brain, with more and more of them endlessly flashing through my mind. I became a prisoner to my own memory. My mother would tell me not to care so much about the past. I’d try to explain that I didn’t really care about the past. The memories just flooded my mind. But nobody could understand me.
My greatest hope now is that scientists will discover something about my brain in the near future. I hope their findings will help them learn more about the human mind.

59. The writer’s mother .

C. cared little about the past
D. solved her problem
60. The writer now hopes scientists will .
A. discover her amazing ability
B. help her become a normal person

The first day, the first hug, the first time you got ditched(被抛弃) by a friend. The first time you were given real responsibilities. The first moment you realized you were growing up, changing, and becoming who you really are. These are the things that middle school is all about, and trust us—we know middle school. We’ve been reading your stories and living through your best moments, as well as your worst nightmares.
Middle school wasn’t too long ago for us, and it’s still fresh in our minds. It can be a painful awkward time in your life, but the lessons you learn are invaluable in your growing up. That’s why we are glad we could give you this book—one of the Chicken' Soup Series. Think of it like a guidebook. Kids just like you are narrating the rocky journey, sharing with you some of the best and worst moments of their life, then allowing you to make your way and experience them on your own.
Thanks to you, we’ve got to relive(重温) a lot of this stuff. We sat in our office, giggling(咯咯地笑) about the stupid things we wore when we were trying to fit in. We couldn’t believe what we did to be popular, but we were also proud of ourselves for the times we stood up for what we believed in. And when you look back, that’s what you’ll do too later. You’ll feel proud that you struggled through middle school and grew up strong. One day, when your braces(牙套) are off and your hair stops getting out of control, you’ll laugh, too. Because middle school is, above all, funny.
And don’t worry—we already think you’re pretty cool.

64. Who are the “we” in the text?
A. Unhappy teenagers. B. Struggling adults.
C. Editors of the book. D. Guides on the journey.
65. What does the text mainly talk about?
A. Teenagers should write down their stories to share with others.
B. Trying to fit in is stupid; we should always be true to ourselves.
C. There is good and bad when we grow up; every part of it is valuable.
D. You’re cool and special, so believe in yourself and you’ll succeed in the end.

Whether or not kids should get paid to do chores(家务活) has long been debated. Some parents think hard work deserves(值得) some money. Others believe chores mean being an active member of the family, not a payday.
▶Kerry Flatley
I have a 9-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter. 66 This weekly payment, however, has nothing to do with their chores.
Doing chores is part of being a helpful member. 67 If kids decide the payment isn’t worth the effort of doing chores, what will happen? Parents can only let their kids stop doing chores or increase the amount of payment. That will be terrible.
▶John Crohn
68 I want to tell my kids that helping other people isn't always tied to money!
▶Shirley Pierce
My kids are still too young to do many chores. Once they are old enough, however, I plan to pay them for doing chores.
69 Doing “personal chores,” like making their own beds, won’t get paid. “Basic chores,” like doing the dishes, will result in a small “salary.” And they will be given a bit more money for “special chores,” like watering the plants and feeding the pet dogs.
▶Grace Murset
70 In the real world, work is always tied to money. I think we should prepare our kids for the real world.
A. I agree with Flatley.
B. So, I will never pay my kids to do chores.
C. In my opinion, kids should get paid for doing chores.
