The parents of a troubled teen may feel unsure as to whom to turn to in order to find help for their child. They may feel as if they have exhausted all of their options, and sometimes they are on the verge of giving up. But there is hope. Schools for troubled teens offer discipline and in some cases, drug treatment programs that can provide important life skills, and more importantly, a fresh start.
    Boarding Schools
When a child is unable to deal with the relative freedom of a standard school day, boarding schools might be a good choice. At boarding schools, the child lives in a dorm setting, where almost every minute of the day is scheduled by school administrators.
    Treatment Centers
When a teenager has an addiction to drugs or alcohol, a residential center that specializes in young people is an outstanding way to help them break the cycle of addiction. Treatment centers feature individual and group counseling to help identify the root causes of the drug problem and help develop the life skills needed to stay clean when the program is over.
    Wilderness Programs
Designed to help improve the discipline and self-reliance of the children, wilderness programs send kids back to nature. By placing them in a foreign and sometimes uncomfortable setting, wilderness programs hope to improve children's behavior. Programs generally include hikes, exercise programs and team building exercises.
    Boot Camps
Boot camps are the most extreme style of school for troubled teens. These facilities are modeled after actual military boot camps, where the individual must get into shape, work as part of a team, and follow a long, hard set of rules and regulations. However, boot camps might not be the best choice fbr a teen with a drug addiction.
    21. Which school will be a good choice if a teenager is addicted to drugs or alcohol?
    A. Boarding Schools.
    B. Treatment Centers.
    C. Wilderness Programs.
    D. Boot Camps.
    22. What will teenagers do when they are sent to the Wilderness Programs?
    A. They will live in a dorm setting.
    B. They will develop the life skills needed to stay clean.
    C. They will get into shape, work as part of a team, and follow rules and regulations.
    D. They will go hiking and participate in exercise programs and team building exercises.
    23. Who are most likely to be interested in this passage?
    A. Parents. B. Teachers. C. Students. D. Experts.
    B

She started working as a reporter for The Atlanta Journal newspaper in 1922. One of Ms Mitchell's photographs, called Peggy, shows her talking to a group of young college boys. She is only about one and a half meters tall. The young men tower over her, but she seems very happy and sure of herself. The tour guide explains, uNow in this picture Peggy is interviewing some boys from Georgia Tech, asking them such questions as e would you really marry a woman who works?”
The Margaret Mitchell House is a building that once contained several apartments. Now we enter the first floor apartment where Ms Mitchell lived with her husband, John Marsh. They made fun of the small apartment by calling it "The Dump".
Around 1926, Margaret Mitchell stopped working as a reporter and was at home recovering after an injury. Her husband brought her books to read from the library. She read so many books that he bought her a typewriter and said it was time for her to write her own book. Our guide says Gone with the Wind became a huge success. “Everyone is entitled (有权)to their opinion" is a remark commonly heard in our society. We value free speech and the rights of the individual. The private preferences we keep, as long as they do not bother with the rights and freedoms of others, are ours to do with as we wish.
Children learn this central principle early on and soon become expert at using it effectively to suit their own purposes. The phrase "well, ifs just my opinion“ can act as a get-out clause which avoids further questioning or the need to give an explanation. A student may well prefer to put up a brick wall and so avoid the difficult task of providing a justification (正当的理由)fbr their view. They know the holy position freedom of speech holds for all of us and they know the taboo (禁忌)around challenging the opinions of others when they do not produce unfavorable effects on anyone else.
This can make things hard for the teacher. We want to promote tolerance and respect in our classrooms and give young people a sense: This is how one ought to behave. Yet, we are also seeking to develop reasoning and critical thinking. To some extent, there is an idea that people's views carry equal weight because all individuals ought to be treated equally. Treating people equally is different from treating what they say with equal weight, though. We need to make clear to students that the right to one's opinions does not ignore the need to support them with argument when called to do so.
Justification is the signal difference between opinion and argument. Opinions are stated; arguments are advanced. Opinions are given; arguments are proposed. When we ask a student to explain themselves, we are asking them to give us something that will lend evidence to what they have said. We are asking them to convince us, to persuade us, to show us the reasonableness of what it is they are saying.
    28. What might happen if a child offers a get-out clause?
    A. He might raise his social position.
    B. He might fall into a difficult situation.
    C. He might escape from being questioned.
    D. He might have to further explain his opinion. 29. What can make things hard for teachers?
    A. Telling the differences between opinion and argument.
    B. Putting up a brick wall to avoid giving acceptable reasons.
    C. Challenging the opinions of others to have a deep effect on them.
    D. Encouraging tolerance and respect while developing reasoning and critical thinking. 30. What does the underlined word “them" in Paragraph 3 refer to?
    A. Opinions. B. Teachers.
    C. Needs. D. Students.
    31. What would be the best title for this passage?
    A. Treat What People Say Equally.
    B. Everyone Is Entitled to Their Opinion.
    C. Never Bother with the Rights of Others.
    D. "It's just my opinion^^ Isn't Good Enough.

Scientists in UK have grown a living human “brain”. The team at Aston University created tiny bunch of cells which act like a mini nervous system.
They believe it could help find a cure fbr worse mental conditions like Parkinson's disease. Professor Michael Coleman is leading the research program. He explained, uWe are aiming to be able to study the human brain at the most basic level, using an actual living human cell system. Cells have to be alive and operating efficiently to enable us to really understand how the brain works." The experiment involves changing cells from a cancer tumour (肿瘤)and making them behave like brain cells.
Although far from finished, researchers hope the false brain cells will give them a greater understanding of how real brains work. This, in turn, could significantly further research into conditions which affect the brain. Neil Hunt, chief leader of the research group, said, “It is still very early days, but in the future the research could lead to a useful tool for looking into dementia (痴呆)
The technique could also provide a way to carry on animal test and is being supported by the Humane Research Trust (HRT). The scientists predict that over the next ten years a million people will develop dementia. Professor Coleman believes their findings could change this. He said, “We hope our research will provide scientists with a new and highly relational human experimental model to help them understand the brain better and develop new drugs to control the related disease. However, the biggest challenge at present is that we are greatly short of fund, which will slow our research.”
    32. Why do UK scientists grow a living human “brain”?
    A. To study the structure of human brain.
    B. To separate cells from a cancer tumour.
    C. To discover how human brain really works.
    D. To make use of an actual living human cell system.
    33. What is Neil Hunt’s attitude to the research according to his words?
    A. Positive. B. Critical.
    C. Suspicious. D. Worried.
    34. What can we know from the last paragraph?
    A. Animal tests are no longer allowed by law.
    B. The technique provided by HRT is immature.
    C. The research program lacks financial support.
    D. A million people are suffering from brain diseases.
    35. What is the main purpose of this text?
    A. To tell us about health problem in nerve system.
    B. To introduce the progress of drugs fbr dementia.
    C. To introduce a research program in human5s brain.
