You’re often served by young people at restaurants. But Forget Me Not Cafe in Shanghai is different.
The cafe has eight elderly employees with cognitive impairments (认知障碍) who take turns working with other waiters to help customers.
They often provide basic services for guests, such as pouring water, serving and taking orders.
“The guests are also very tolerant of us, because sometimes we make mistakes,” said Zhu Caiping, one of the elderly employees at the cafe.
Sometimes, they are also invited to take part in welfare activities organized by volunteers, such as baking, dancing and learning English.
“These activities are essential for me. They reactivate my brain,” the 73-year-old said. “What old people like us worry about most is that our brain stagnates (停滞) due to being inactive.”
Because of memory loss, Zhu writes down all the information she wants to remember on sticky notes, such as the names of the volunteers and the teacher as well as English words.
“But I really became happy and confident because of being here,” she said.
In addition to the job opportunities for the elderly, information about cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease is posted on a board outside the restaurant to help people recognize symptoms and seek treatment as soon as possible.
Zeng Rong, a co-founder of the restaurant, said the cafe has had a great impact on elderly people with cognitive impairment.
A 58-year-old woman from Jiangsu province, whose husband brings her to the restaurant, is an example.
“When she came here for the first time, she barely said a word and was indifferent. I told her that she must communicate and gave her homework every time with rewards,” Zhu said.
The woman has since come to the restaurant every Friday, and after several months, her condition has improved.
“She started to comment that the food was ‘delicious’ and speak with others. Moreover, she began to hug me every time,” Zhu said.
“Helping more people like us is the purpose ... and what I am eager to do most,” added Zhu.
Inspired by their kindness, many young people like to come and enjoy the warm atmosphere of the shop.

Magic is a form of entertainment that is based on pretending to do things that are impossible. The magician is a specially trained actor. He tries to make the audience believe that he has the power to do things which are against the laws of nature.
Magic shows are entertaining as long as the audience does not discover how the tricks are done. The magician usually depends on his skill with his hands, on his knowledge of psychology, and, sometimes, on mechanical devices. Since magic performance is meant to trick people, the use of psychology is important. The magician must keep people from noticing all the movements of his hands and from thinking about the secret parts of his equipment. He must also lead the audience to draw false conclusions. The magician's success depends on the fact that many things seen by the eye are not the things that matter.
Two basic magic tricks are making objects seem to appear and making objects seem to disappear. A combination of these two tricks makes for some interesting effects. For example, the magician puts a small ball under one of several cups. The ball then seems to jump from one cup to another or to change colour. What actually happens is that the magician, employing quick hand movements or a mechanical device, hides one ball. While doing this he talks to the audience and waves a brightly coloured cloth with one hand. The audience is too busy watching the cloth and listening to the magician's words to notice that his other hand is hiding the ball.
Another favourite trick is to cut or burn something, and then make it appear whole again. What actually happens is that the magician makes the cut or burned object disappear by quickly hiding it while the audience watches something else. Then he “magically” makes it appear whole again by displaying another object that has not been cut or burned.
    28. Which of the following is important for a successful magic trick?
    A. Moving stage equipment. B. Keeping the performance in secret.
    C. Applying high technology. D. Directing the audience's attention.
    29. What does the underlined word “employing” mean in paragraph 3?
    A. Hiring. B. Using C. Engaging D. Moving
    30. How does the author develop the last two paragraphs?
    A. By explaining a concept. B. By making a summary.
    C. By drawing comparisons. D. By providing examples.
    31. What’s the passage mainly about?
    A. The secrets behind the art of magic. B. The ways to be magicians.
    C. The attractions of the magic show. D. The talents of magicians.

    D
A car weighing only a few hundred pounds, can travel 500 miles per hour, repair itself and cost less than other cars. It might be hard to imagine such a car, let alone a spaceship. But NASA is trying to make a spaceship that is much better than other ships.
The spacecraft has to be as light as it can be. Weight costs money! A new discovery might allow spacecraft to be lighter. A new material called a “carbon nanotube(碳纳米管)” might be the answer to the weight problem of building a super spaceship. This material is 600 times stronger than steel.
One of the big problems with space travel is space radiation (辐射).In space, astronauts need protection against harmful rays. You might think that the metal on a spaceship is the answer. But, metals are the worst for protecting against very dangerous space rays. These rays are made of little pieces called ions (离子).When the ions hit metals at very high speed, they can break an atom and cause another type of ray to form. These new rays can be worse than the radiation the metal skins were supposed to stop. Thus, it is very important to block these rays.
But we could use carbon nanotubes to make the skins of spacecraft. Things that are light in weight seem to work the best against these ions. The rays are stopped outside the spacecraft and new rays aren't made.
In addition, our super spaceship needs to be able to repair itself. Humans can feel the smallest pinpricks (针刺)because of tiny sensors that send signals to our brains. Tiny sensors like ours could be built in the new ships. Each sensor could send messages to the computer “brain” of the spacecraft. If something needed to be fixed, the computer could tell the ship to do it.
Just as amazing as a car would be to someone 200 years ago, our nanotube spaceship might seem to us. We might actually make the spacecraft of tomorrow, using the technology of today.
    32. What are the features of carbon nanotubes?
    A. Radioactive and tough. B. Light and strong.
    C. Thin and weightless. D. Flexible and protective.
    33. What can we learn in this passage?
    A. Space radiation can't be blocked at all.
    B. Space rays can break ions to form new rays.
    C. Metal skins aren't a good choice for their strength.
    D. Carbon nanotubes can prevent radiation effectively.
    34. Why will tiny sensors be built into the new spaceship?
    A. Signals can be sent to humans’ brains.
    B. The computer “brain” can repair itself.
    C. The computer can be informed of what to repair.
    D. Humans can feel the smallest pinpricks.
    35. What's the best title of the passage?
    A. A New Discovery in Space
    B. NASA's Attempt to Make a Super Spaceship
    C. NASA Made a Breakthrough
    D. Nanotubes Help to Repair Spacecraft

For example, for a college student away from home for the first time, comfort foods may serve as a reminder of family or friends in times of stress or isolation. Evidence showed that people with positive family relationships were more likely than others to reach for comforting foods on the days that they felt lonely.
    ● Special occasion.
    39. . The excuse reflects a dilemma. From a short-term perspective, the indulgence (纵情享受) is the best choice; but from a long-term perspective, healthy eating is the best choice. The ideal solution is to somehow do both. 40. . If the situation can be framed as the “last time”, then the dilemma disappears, since the person can say to himself that a new and better life will begin tomorrow.
    A. This is impossible, except in one situation
    B. This is because we feel comforted when we are full
    C. However, as it is ideal, it’s impossible for most people
    D. Here are some factors that can contribute to comfort eating
    E. In contrast, people in a positive mood tend to choose healthy foods
