Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising. They have been given a new name—phubbers(低头族).
Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie(自拍) in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.
Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying, “the neck is like a rope that breaks after longterm stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere,Beijing Evening News reported.
It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.
24.For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Para.2?
A.To advertise the cartoon made by students.
B.To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.
C.To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.
D.To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.
25.Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have?
A.His social skills could be affected.
B.His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.
C.He might get separated from his friends and family.
D.He will cause the destruction of the world.
26.Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing?
    A.Supportive.
    B.Optimistic.
    C.Opposed.
    D.Objective.
27.What may the passage talk about next?
A.Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.
    B.People addicted to phubbing.
    C.Definition of phubbers.
    D.Consequences of phubbing.
    C
It was December 25,1914,only 5 months into World War Ⅰ. German,British, and French soldiers, already sick and tired of the senseless killing, disobeyed their superiors and started socializing with “the enemy” along twothirds of the Western Front.
German troops held up Christmas trees with signs, “Merry Christmas”. Thousands of troops ran across the battlefields covered with dead bodies. They sang Christmas songs, exchanged photographs of loved ones back home, shared food and even played football.Soldiers hugged men they had been trying to kill a few short hours before. They agreed to warn each other if their officers forced them to fire their weapons, and to aim high.
Fear ran through the military leaders on both sides. They felt that their power was being challenged: soldiers declaring their brotherhood with each other and refusing to fight. Generals declared this unexpected peacemaking illegal and said that participating soldiers would face a military court. Those found guilty would be imprisoned or even shot. By March 1915 the socializing movement had been destroyed and the killing machine was back in full operation. Over the next three years more than fifteen million people died in the war.
Not many people have heard the story of the Christmas Truce(休战).On Christmas Day, 1988, a local radio host in Boston played “Christmas in the Trenches”,a song about the Christmas Truce, several times and was stunned by his listeners’ response. Thousands of people called in,praising the song, with many moved to tears by the amazing events it described.
You can probably guess why the callers were in tears. The Christmas Truce story goes against most of what we have been taught about people. It lets us see the world as it can be and says,“This really happened once.” It shows us the potential we have as humans, and contradicts all of those TV and newspaper stories that tell us how mean and heartless people are. It is like hearing that our deepest wishes really are true:the world really can be different.
28.The soldiers began socializing with the enemy because .
A.they couldn’t bear the meaningless killing
B.it was the best way to avoid being killed
C.they feared that they would be caught
D.their enemies were from similar backgrounds
29.How did the generals finally put an end to the soldiers’ socializing?
A.They sent the soldiers’ loved ones to prison.
B.They moved the two groups of soldiers further apart.
C.They increased the number of officers to control the soldiers.
D.They warned the soldiers that they would face severe punishment.
30.The underlined word “stunned” in Paragraph 4 most probably means “ ”.
    A.satisfied B.shocked
    C.amused D.confused
31.The author uses the story of the soldiers to imply that human beings .
    A.are not trustworthy under stress
    B.are naturally aggressive and warlike
    C.are basically caring and kindhearted
D.will always do what is in their own selfinterest
    D
Do Peru’s potatoes have the right stuff? That’s the question scientists will be asking in Lima next month, when a selection of potatoes will begin undergoing tests to determine whether they are fit to grow on Mars.
NASA,the US space agency, is conducting the pioneering experiment together with Lima’s International Potato Center(CIP).
They will cultivate(培养) a hundred selected varieties in Marslike conditions that could eventually pave the way for building a dome on the Red Planet for farming the vegetable. Of the selected candidates, 40 are native to the Andes Mountains, growing in different ecological zones, can stand sudden climate changes and reproduce in rocky areas. The other 60 are improved varieties, able to survive with little water and salt. They are also immune to viruses. Those that pass the tests must meet a final criterion—they must be able not only to grow well on Mars but also reproduce in large quantities. “We’re almost 100 percent certain that many of the selected potatoes will pass the tests,” said Julio Valdivia Silva,a Peruvian NASA astrobiologist(太空生物学家) who is taking part in the ambitious project. The scientists plan to transport 100 kilos of soil to a CIP lab in Lima that will imitate the complex Martian atmosphere—which contains mostly carbon dioxide—and expose it to extreme ultraviolet(紫外线的) radiation. If the varieties selected for next month’s experiment don’t adapt to the desert soil, the researchers will introduce nutrients, which will be provided by radiation.
In future years, NASA plans to build a Mars research center in the Peruvian desert. It would create a perfect copy of the Martian landscape and atmosphere for future research into space farming that could serve manned missions to Mars and other planets in the solar system.
32.What is the best title of the passage?
    A.Transport Potatoes to Peru
B.Determine the Varieties of Potatoes in Peru
C.NASA Is to Build a Mars Research Center in Peru
D.NASA Is to Simulate Growing Potatoes on Mars in Peru
33.According to the third paragraph, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.Forty kinds of potatoes can survive with little water and salt.
B.Many types of potatoes to be planted on Mars are developed in Peru.
C.Sixty varieties native to the Andes Mountains can stand sudden climate changes.
D.The final criterion is that all the candidates are immune to viruses on the earth.
34.What if the selected varieties don’t adapt to the desert soil in Peru?
A.Astrobiologists will be sent there to help.
B.Nutrients will be provided to plants by radiation.
C.A Mars research center will be built for further study.
D.100 more kilos of potatoes will be directly sent to Lima.
35.The passage may be in the column of China Daily.
    A.Science
    B.Sports

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful. The favorite.
Green said, “Clearly I am the most important .I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die.”
Blue interrupted: “You only think about the earth but consider the sky and the sea. It is the water that is the basis of life. The sky gives space and peace. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.”
Yellow chuckled, “You are all so serious. I bring laughter and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun.”
Orange started next. “I am the color of health and strength .I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. When I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you.”
Then Red shouted out, “I am the ruler of all of you. I bring fire into the blood. I am the color of passion and of love. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon.”
Purple rose up to his full height, “I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey.”
Finally, Indigo spoke, “Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water.”
And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder.

(One possible version)
    Para 1:
Suddenly there was a flash of bright lightening, thunder rolling and booming. Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The quarrel came to an abrupt stop, panic enveloping these colors. They crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort. Right then, a voice pierced through the midst of the clamor,” You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don’t you know that you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another.”
    Para 2:
Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. Together they formed a rainbow across the sky ,driving off the thunder and the rain .The run slowly rose with rays of golden light scattering on the earth. All the colors smiled at each other, brightening the whole world, with hopeful green, peaceful blue, cheerful yellow, energetic orange, passionate red, powerful purple and thoughtful indigo. From then on, whenever a good rain washes the world, a rainbow will appear in the sky ,reminding people the unity can work miracle.

M: Yes, I go to the stadium whenever there is a good game. And if I can't get a ticket, I watch the game on TV. That way, they're less exciting though.
    W: Is the ticket expensive?
M: It depends. It usually costs about 20 to 50 dollars. Last time I paid 25.
W: That's not very expensive. Maybe we can go together sometime.
M: Great. It'll be more fun to watch the game with a friend.
W: You're out the whole afternoon, Alex? What did you do?
    M: I took a walk by myself.
W: You just kept walking and walking for four hours?
M: Actually, it's not so boring. Walking in the woods is a grand adventure. Your feet can take you to the most amazing places.
W: What did you do in the woods?
M: I smelt the flowers, looked at the birds, and yeah, I picked many tree leaves. I will make bookmarks with them. Look!
    W: Aren't they beautiful?
M: Then I met Bob at the lake. He was fishing while his kids were having a swim.
W: Did you talk to him?

    W: Your list?
M: Yes. When I was 12, I made a list of things I wanted to do some day.
W: That's interesting. How many of the things on your list have you done so far?
M: Almost half. I have pictures. Would you like to see them?
    W: Yes, sure.
M: Here I am on top of Mount Fuji. And here I am in a hot air balloon.
W: When did you do that? I've always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon.
M: It was two years ago, in August, in California.
W: What are your plans for the next holiday?
M: I'm thinking of deep-sea diving in Australia. Do you have any other suggestions?
W: You really ought to take a boat down the Amazon. You'll see a lot of interesting animals and beautiful trees. It's one of the best places I've been to.
M: OK. I'll put it on my list.
W: Hello, Michael.
    M: Hi, Sarah.
W: Are you attending the conference tomorrow morning at the Shelton Hotel?
    M: Yes. Are you?
W: Yeah, but when I arrived home five minutes ago, I found that my car wouldn't start. And John is in Brighton on business.
M: Do you know what's wrong with the car?
W: I'm not exactly sure. I think there is a problem with the engine. Err…I wonder if you could give me a ride to the hotel tomorrow morning.
M: Sure. When shall I be at your place?
W: Well, what about 8: 00? From my place to Shelton, we have to drive through the quarters, so we'd better leave early to avoid the traffic.
M: OK. No problem. It takes twenty minutes to reach your place. So I'll set off at 7:40. By the way, do you also need me to drive you home tomorrow afternoon?
W: No, John will be back then, and he'll get me home. Thank you, Michael.
M: That's okay. See you tomorrow.
W: Hello, everyone. Today I'll talk about how to improve your pronunciation. Language researchers say pronunciation and fluency are the biggest barriers, followed by grammar, in effective spoken English. However, most people don't regard pronunciation as a very important part of communication skills. They're more focused on vocabulary. One reason is that most people are not even aware of their mispronunciations. So it's important to first find out the words you mispronounce. You should listen to experts, by experts, I mean those who are less likely to make pronunciation mistakes. When listening to them, pay attention to words that sound strange, strange because you pronounce the same words differently. When you come across such words, check a dictionary to confirm their exact pronunciations. You can also search for difficult-to-pronounce words and names, and make a list of them. The last suggestion is to read aloud. Now you've got the correct pronunciations of the words, it's time to practice reading them every day.
根据第一则通知的最后一句“Additional charges may apply if there is a difference in fare for the new travel route.”
根据第二则通知的前两句“Procedural changes at TSA checkpoints throughout the United tates may result in longer lines at security checkpoints. Please plan accordingly and allow for extra time at the airport.”
根据最后一段“If you are not allowed to board or if your flight is cancelled or delayed for at least two hours, ask at the checkin counter or boarding gate for the form, stating your rights, particularly about compensation and assistance.”
根据第二段最后一句“A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.”
根据第三段尾句“Also,staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.”和第四段第二句“Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family.”及第三段第三句“Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck”可知,A、B、C三项都是低头族可能会有的风险。
There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.”
故A正确。
根据第一段第二句“German,British,and French soldiers, already sick and tired of the senseless killing, disobeyed their superiors and started socializing with ‘the enemy’ along twothirds of the Western Front.” 故A正确。
根据第三段第三、四句“Generals declared this unexpected peacemaking illegal and said that participating soldiers would face a military court. Those found guilty would be imprisoned or even shot.”
根据划线词后一句“Thousands of people called in,praising the song, with many moved to tears by the amazing events it described.”
根据文章最后两句“It shows us the potential we have as humans, and contradicts all of those TV and newspaper stories that tell us how mean and heartless people are.It is like hearing that our deepest wishes really are true:the world really can be different.”
根据第三段中的“The other 60 are improved varieties, able to survive with little water and salt.”可排除A项;根据第三段中的“Of the selected candidates,40 are native to the Andes Mountains, growing in different ecological zones, can stand sudden climate changes and reproduce in rocky areas.”可排除C项;根据第三段中的“Those that pass the tests must meet a final criterion—they must be able not only to grow well on Mars but also reproduce in large quantities.”
根据第三段最后一句“If the varieties selected for next month’s experiment don’t adapt to the desert soil, the researchers will introduce nutrients, which will be provided by radiation.”
