My favourite book is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.Tom lives with his aunt Polly in a quiet street of St.Petersburg,Missouri.He’s a lively and clever young boy,and he finds himself in many exciting adventures. He runs away with his two friends,Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper,to an island in the middle of the Mississippi River for several days. With Huck he goes looking for treasure, and with Becky he gets lost in a cave. And finally, they find a box of gold.
My favourite scene in the book is when everyone thinks Tom is dead.He decides to go to his own funeral. He hides and watches for a time and then suddenly he appears.Everyone is astonished to see him but they’re also pleased to see him alive.
Tom is the hero of the story, but there are other important characters.Huck is an outsider and everyone is afraid of him.Becky is pretty with fair hair, and Joe Harper is Tom’s best friend.Injun Joe is the bad man of the story.
The theme of the story is about children’s growth. And it talks about freedom, social rules and how people are punished for bad behaviour.
Why do I think The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a great book? Mark Twain wrote the story in 1876,but it’s still read and loved by people all over the world today. And although it’s only a story,Twain wrote it in everyday English of the southern states of America in the 19th century,so it sounds very real.Today it's thought to be one of the greatest books in American literature.Go and read it! I know you’ll enjoy it,too.
- Where does Tom run away with his two friends?
A. To a quiet street. B. To a small town.
C. To an island. D. To a forest. - Who is the bad man in the story?
A. Huckleberry Finn. B. Injun Joe.
C. Becky. D. Polly. - How did people feel when Tom appeared at his own funeral?
A. They were surprised but happy. B. They were surprised but sad.
C. They were worried but excited. D. They were frightened but happy. - What’s the writer's purpose for writing the article?
A. To call on us to read the book.
B. To tell us how popular the book is today.
C. To tell us when Mark Twain wrote the story.
D. To tell us why the story sounds very real.

Recently, some Chinese experts advise people to be more careful about making a “V” gesture(手势)while taking a photo, because the fingerprints may be stolen.
It is possible. If the distance between the person and a smartphone is less than half a meter, the possibility of the fingerprint being stolen will be bigger.Having fingerprints stolen can cause a lot of difficulties,as they are used in many things, including ID cards, passports and online payments. So it’s a must to pay attention to their protection and avoid them being spread on the Internet.
This kind of discussion was first raised by a Japanese research center, the National Institute of Informatics.
Zeng Qiaoyi, 19, who likes sharing selfies(自拍) on WeChat, said she is also worried about it.She said she seldom posts pictures with “V” gestures and most pictures she shares are made to be not so clear by certain software. “I blur(使……变模糊)backgrounds in selfies, hoping to hide my location,” she added.
Tan Tieniu, a scientist, said at the 2016 China National Computer Congress that using fingerprints instead of passwords or voice identification is far from safe, compared with face recognition(辨认).
But a police officer from Jiangsu Province, said locals don’t need to be overly anxious, because the cameras of many cellphones are not clear enough, and the shooting distance of most photos taken by cameras is too far.
- What did some Chinese experts suggest?
A. Not taking a photo with a camera. B. Not showing your fingerprints.
C. Not protecting the fingerprints. D. Not sharing the photo on WeChat. - Why should we avoid spreading the fingerprints?
A. Because they can be used on online shopping.
B. Because they can be used to share locations.
C. Because they can be used to call the policeman.
D. Because they can be used to take selfies. - According to the article which way is much safer?
A. Fingerprint. B. Face recognition.
C. Password. D. Voice identification. - This article may come from________.
A. a map B. a passport
C. a dictionary D. a newspaper

It’s the place where smart people make smart machines work even smarter. It’s also in the heart of sunny California,a great place to start a family and raise kids. What could be better? But something is happening to their children.Up until the age of two they develop normally. But then everything seems to go backwards. The children become locked into their own small world, unable to communicate at all.
They call it the“ curse (诅咒)of Silicon Valley”,but the medical name for the condition is autism(自闭症).It used to be thought that autism was a kind of mental illness. Now doctors are sure that it is a neurological disease passed down genetically. It seems that the people leading the communications revolution are having children who cannot communicate at all.
But even the parents have trouble communicating. Asperger’s Syndrome(综合征) is a mild version of autism. People who have it are highly intelligent and often brilliant with numbers or system but have no social skill. This very combination of symptoms makes Asperger’s sufferers into perfect computer professionals.
The Asperger’s sufferer has always been a well—known figure in popular culture. He or she was the abnormal but devoted scholar or the strange uncle or auntie who never married. But the high numbers of such people in Silicon Valley mean that they can meet others who understand them and share their interests. And while they might not be personally attractive, they can earn truly attractive amounts of money. They can get married and have kids.Unfortunately, many of the children of two Asperger’s parents seem to be developing serious autism.
There is little anyone can do.It takes hours of work just to make autistic child realize that anyone else exists. And there is no cure in sight. Some argue that no cure should be found.“It may be that autistics are essentially different from normal people, but that these differences make them invaluable for the evolution(进化)of the human race,"says Dr.Kirk Whilhelmsen of the University of California.“To get rid of the genes for autism could be extremely bad.’’
It seems that the children of Silicon Valley are paying the price of genius.
- What can we learn about autism according to the passage?
A. People with autism do not care about the presence of others.
B. People with autism can’t find people sharing their interests.
C. It is believed to be a kind of mental illness that can be cured.
D. They are a burden for the society. - Why do people call autism “curse of Silicon Valley”?
A. Because autistic people live in Silicon Valley.
B. Because people with autism will be driven out of Silicon Valley.
C. Because many people working in Silicon Valley have autism children.
D. Because people with autism are not personally attractive and not liked by others. - What can we know about Asperger’s Syndrome according to the passage?
A. Asperger’s sufferers never get married or have children.
B. Asperger’s sufferers are perfect computer professionals.
C. Asperger’s sufferers are ashamed of themselves and locked into their own world.
D. Asperger’s sufferers can be beneficial to society if they are cured. - What does Dr Kirk Whilhelmsen think of autism?
A. It is not completely a bad thing.
B. It is harmful to society.
C. It is a punishment to those working in Silicon Valley.
D. People with autism should never marry.
