Chien-Shiung Wu spent most of her life in the United States, but the Chinese-American nuclear physicist is at least as well known, if not much more, among the Chinese than among Americans.
On March 17, 2016 the US Department of Energy website published an article praising Wu's many achievements during National Women's History Month this month. She was known as the "Chinese Madame Curie", "First Lady of Physics”, and many other titles given by her students. Wu was born in Shanghai on May 31, 1912, and grew up in Jiangsu.
Wu was lucky at a time of few educational opportunities for women in China. She attended the elementary school for girls founded in 1913 by her father. After graduating from Suzhou No. 2 Women's Normal School in 1929, Wu was enrolled in the National Central University (now Nanjing University) to study mathematics and then physics. In August 1936, Wu pursued further study in the University of California, Berkeley in the US. Receiving her PhD in 1940, Wu taught for two years at Smith College and Princeton University. She joined the secret Manhattan Project in 1944.
Wu is best known for her 1956 experiment that disproved(推翻)the conservation of parity(守恒定 律).The experiment was regarded vital in securing fellow Chinese-born scientists Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Wu had won numerous honors, being the first woman with an honorary doctorate from Princeton University in 1958, and the first person selected in 1978 to receive the Wolf Prize.
Her name and stories became widely known in China after she made many trips in China in later years. She was honorary professor at many Chinese universities and one of the first foreign academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994.

Compared with the obvious environmental issues, littering often takes a backseat-but it's more pressing than we may think.
If you were to throw a banana peel out of your car while driving, that would be a completely harmless action, because it's part of a fruit-right? Actually, no. A banana peel can take up to two years to break down, and with a third of motorists admitting to littering while driving, that's a whole lot of deserted banana peels, or much worse. An orange peel and a cigarette end has a similar biodegrading (生物递降分 解)term to that of a banana, but tin and aluminum (铝)cans last up to 100 years; and plastic bottles last forever, as do glass bottles, and plastic bags.
Despite the fact that longer-lasting materials will serve to damage the environment and its animals for longer, we can't solely measure the severity of a certain type of rubbish by its lifetime. For example, despite having a fairly short biodegrading span, more than 120 tons of cigarette -related litter is deserted in the UK every day. Similarly, our regular littering here and there has caused the UK's rat population to increase by 60 million.
It's not a cheap habit either: UK taxpayers set back £ 500 million in order to keep our streets clean. So, it's not surprising that if caught fly-tipping you could face a £ 20,000 fine or even jail time and, if you disposed of something unsafe, the court could give you five years to serve. Regardless of how severe these punishments might seem, however, among the reported cases only 2,000 were declared guilty out of 825,000, so we still have some way to go in making sure people obey the rules.
To take back our beautiful countryside and cities we need to do more than simply not leaving rubbish where it ought not to be. We need a pride makeover, we need to truly care more about the world around us. 32. The writer mentions a banana peel in paragraph 2 to tell people “ "
    A. a little leak will sink a great ship B. God helps those who help themselves
    C. the longest journey begins with the first step D. practice makes perfect
    33. What can we know about the effects of littering everywhere?
    A. Aluminum cans are harder to biodegrade.
    B. Fewer people desert cigarette ends.
    C. Rat population increases rapidly.
    D. Clearing the streets brings much income.
    34. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 4 imply?
    A. Punishments are not severe enough.
    B. Some cases are wrongly punished.
    C. People don't know the way to obey the rules.
    D. Punishment is not the solution to littering habits. 35. What's the purpose of the text?
    A. To introduce some harmful materials.
    B. To call on people to care about the world.
    C. To warn people against littering.
    D. To remind people of littering punishment.

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Dog training is a broad specialism, and the types of training vary just as much as the trainers themselves. 36 After all, this is the person who you will be relying on to get your dog under control. Dog training classes should be held at a purpose-built facility(设施),though they can be held outdoors, too.
37 If the classes are held outside, then there should be fencing to protect the dogs from escaping or running into nearby traffic.
Not all dog training is basic obedience(服从),as the likes of agility training are popular too. This requires specialist equipment to allow your dog to jump, balance and run through tunnels. 38
Unless you choose 1 :1 training, there will be other dogs in the class. This can be good to owners as it gives you a chance to see how your pet is progressing compared with other dogs. 39 The ideal class size for dog training is about 6 dogs.
In an ideal world, your dog would learn everything in just a handful of training sessions. Dog ownership is a duty lasting many years, and not all behaviors can be stopped in the bud just like that. 40
To sum up, dog training classes give your dog the best chance at learning obedience. They are incredibly versatile and can learn various skills. The training then needs to continue at home and for the rest of the dog's life in some form or another.
    A. Ilie location must be puppy proof and free from danger.
    B. It helps you cope with your dogs better with dog trainers' help.
    C. It's important to find a professional and experienced dog trainer.
    D. Thus, choose the dog training classes with a complete set of equipment.
    E. Be mindful though that your dog gets less individual attention in larger classes.
    F. Rather, dog training needs to continue at home and be helped by the whole family.
    G. So the facility should agree with the type of training you want to put your dog through.

    M: Ok, I'd better take a bus. Thanks a lot. (23')
    Text 3
W: Tom, guess what? I won the first prize in English Competence competition.
M: Really? I thought you struggled through school last year. You were just good at sports.
W: That was true last year! This year is different. My mum hired a private tutor to help me with
English. I'm improved much now. (24')
    Text 4
W: That's a cool computer. Is it new?
M: Yes. I bought it the other day. My old one is too slow and hard to use.

M: Not really, given how much it can do. (15')
    Text 5
M: Mary, do you know a restaurant called Yunjing?
W: Yunjing... I hear of the name. But I'm not certain where it is.

    W: Can I help you?
M: Hello, yes, are there any good day trips from here?
W: Well, you can go up Snowdon. Snowdon's the highest mountain in Wales. That's about 1,000 meters. If you haven't prepared good shoes for walking up to the top, you can go up on the mountain railway.
M: How far is it from here to the station?
W: It's 5.5 miles. You don't have to walk there. There's a bus from here to the station. The round tip
is 3.5 hours, and you will pay $25 for it. (83')
    Text 7
W: The Cannes International Film Festival is coming to Cannes next week.
M: Does that mean that all the famous stars will make their appearance here?
W: That's exactly what it means. I'm so excited. I'm going to put in my request for a holiday during that time and see every movie they're going to show. I'm also going to get the signatures of every star I know. Would you like to join me?
M: I wish I could, but I won't be here next week. The company is sending me to our head office in Paris for the yearly training for a month. (85')
    Text 8
M: Let's plan the dinner for the end of the year.
W: I've been talking to some of our classmates, and quite a few of them want to go to a pizza restaurant.
M: Mm. I think I've had enough of pizza. I eat it at least twice a week. I want to try something different.
W: Well how about that Chinese restaurant near our school, the Fish House.
M: It's closing next week for a month— they're going to build a new kitchen. It'd be good to go to some place with a singer and guitarist, enjoying the songs and food.
W: But there'll be at least twenty of us— we'll be so noisy that we won't hear the music.
M: You're right. Hey, we haven't thought about the cost. Some people will want to go to a cheap place, and others can afford somewhere more expensive.
W: Why don't we fix the amount first and ask a restaurant to provide a meal for that price?
M: That's a good idea. And then we could make a list of the places that we think are best, and get the rest of the class to choose one. (150')
    Text 9
M: Today I'm talking to 21-year-old, long-distance runner Ann Brown, who's just returned from the World Championships. So, Ann, how did you feel about your performance in the championships?
W: I was happy to get the silver medal. It was an exciting race and the crowd was fantastic.
M: So what's your training routine like, Ann?
W: Running on roads is pretty dull and there is no lake or river around my place. So I usually go running through the woods, getting pleasure from seeing the changes in nature.
M: Do you train every day or do you take a day off?
W: The accepted idea is that sports-people should have at least one rest day a week. I'm not a great believer in that though. At my age I find I can keep going without one. I do five hours a day.
M: So do you have any free time activities?
W: Let me think. Skiing is something that I get into quite a bit when I've got the time. I've always enjoyed active things, and never really been much of a reader of books. Of course, I watch TV and play computer games like most people. (150')
    Text 10
Good morning. Today, I'm going to tell you about a famous jazz musician. His name was Duke Ellington. In the 1920s, people didn't really notice jazz. But he made it well-known. How? Duke Ellington got his music heard all over America. And I'm not just talking about concerts. Many musicians played in concerts. And they went to many places. But Duke Ellington was different. How? You see, his music was on national radio. Back then, it was a big deal to get on the radio. And Ellington was one of die first to have jazz played on the radio. Lots of people could listen to it. And you know what? People really liked it. Ok, he did something else that helped him to succeed. What did he do? He wrote his own music, and recorded it This was a big deal. Why? Because his music was original Before Duke, people didn't notice jazz much. And they didn't recognize it as a separate form of music. But after Duke, they surely did. Thus, he was really the one who made jazz popular. (14T) 第二节到此结束,现在请用两分钟的时间把听力答案填涂在答题卡上。
