This consists of at least four tests: mother tongue and three other compulsory(必修)tests from second national language, foreign language, maths, and sciences/humanities. They can also take one or more optional tests like economics. FranceLower secondary education ends at 15 when students take a lower secondary leaving exam, which consists of French, maths. civics education and history/geography together with continuous assessment from 13 to 15. After one year of upper secondary education, students can leave or continue their education. Those that stay on can choose from a diploma, a technical career or professional certificates. North KoreaThere is no national examination on completion of lower secondary education. But students may need to take an entrance-exam at age 15+ for some upper secondary schools. All students who wish to go to college have to take the national College Scholastic Ability TestCSAT. CSAT involves written tests in subjects: Korean, maths. English, social studies, science and professional education, and a second foreign language. The NetherlandsAt age 15, students enter the second cycle which prepares them for specific and differentiated terminal examinations. It includes three cultivation routes: pre-professional secondary education, senior general secondary education, and a pre-university qualification. All require common compulsory subjects like Dutch, English, physical education. And their differences lie in some special career options and study burden.21. Yet, when it comes to eating noodles, Japanese people can be the loudest in the world.According to lifestyle website Grapee.jp, slurping (发出啧啧声) when eating noodles is encouraged in Japanese culture. It's believed that taking air into your mouth can enhance (提高) the flavor of the noodles and help cool down the food. It's also considered to be a way to show appreciation for the dish. Sometimes, just making the noise alone seems to make the noodles more enjoyable. It was not until a new expression---“noodle harassment”came out on social media that Japanese people started to realize the problem. They found that the slurping noise was making some foreign visitors uncomfortable. As a response, Japanese instant noodle maker Nissin introduced a so-called noise-canceling (降噪的)fork last month. The fork looks like an electric toothbrush. It is connected wirelessly to a smartphone. When the person using the fork starts to slurp, the fork will send a signal to the person's phone. Then the phone will play a sound to mask the slurping noise. But is it really necessary? Dining traditions and table manners do vary. In India, people eat with their hands. They think they build a connection with the food in this way. However, people who are used to eating with forks might find it unacceptable to get their hands covered in oil or sauce. But this eating method is part of India's culture, just like Japan's slurping is part of its own.“So, if you are eating noodles, please slurp as you like," wrote a Japanese food blogger.“If anyone gets annoyed while you are doing that, ignore them. ,They're missing the point entirely."24. Which of the following is NOT the reason for slurping when eating noodles, according to the text?A. Cooling the noodles down.    B. Making the noodles more tasty.C. Showing great respect for the noodles.  D. Adding to the pleasure of eating noodles.25.What does the underlined word“harassment" mean in paragraph 3 mean?A.Anxiety.  B. Annoyance.   C. Politeness.  D.Appreciation26.How does the noise -canceling fork work?A. The fork removes the slurping noise.B. The fork can be used as an electric toothbrush.C. A smartphone reminds the user to stop slurping if a signal is sent to it.D. A smartphone plays a sound to hide the noise when it receives a signal.27.Why does the author mention people in India in this passage?A. To show that forks are unnecessary in Indian culture.B. To give an example to show cultural difference are normal.C. To show India has special dinning tradition and table manners.D.To tell us the differences in eating habits between India and Japan.CBlind people have long desired for brightness, but scientists don’t have the technology. To bring that one step closer to reality, Zhiyong Fan, a materials scientist of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, developed a new artificial eye recently. The device, which is about as sensitive to light and has sharper vision and a faster reaction time than a real eyeball, may outperform human eyes. The human eye owes its wide field of view and clear eyesight to the retina (视网膜) — an area at the back of the eyeball covered in light-detecting cells. The design for a new artificial eye is based on the structure of the human eye and uses a friendly light-sensitive material. At the back of the eyeball, an artificial retina is lined with nanoscale light sensors (纳米级光感器). Those sensors measure light that passes through the lens (晶状体) at the front of the eye. Wires attached to the back of the retina send signals from those sensors to the processor, similar to the way nerve networks connect the eyeball to the brain.“In the future, we can use this to replace damaged human eyes,” says the lead designer. In theory, this artificial eye could see more clearly than the human eye, because the artificial retina contains about 460 million light sensors per square centimeter while a real retina has about 10 million light-detecting cells per square centimeter. Besides, the artificial eyeball records changes in lighting faster than human eyes can — within about 30 to 40 milliseconds, rather than 40 to 150 milliseconds. Although its 100-degree field of view isn’t as broad as the 150 degrees a human eye can take in, the device can see as well as the human eye in poor light.Hongrui Jiang, an electrical engineer at the University of Wisconsin, though, thinks engineers need a much more practical and efficient way to produce vast series of tiny wires on the back of the artificial eyeball to give it superhuman sight, which is super hard to achieve.28. Why does Zhiyong Fan develop the artificial eye?A. To replace people’s real eyeballs. B. To gain a sharper vision.C. To help the blind regain their eyesight. D. To help normal eyes perform better.29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?A. The design of the artificial eye.B. The structure of the human eye.C. The advantages of the artificial eye.D. The material used for the artificial eye.30. What can we learn about the artificial eye and the human eye?A. They have the same structure.B. The artificial eye may see more clearly.C. The human eye sees better in weak light.D. The artificial eye takes in a broader view.31. Which word best describes Hongrui Jiang’s attitude to the artificial eye?A. Doubtful.     B. Favorable.     C. Tolerant.   D. Ambiguous. DChina’s young people have created yet another word to reflect their growing disappointment with the stressful work culture. The new lifestyle hot word, tang ping, is an action rather than a feeling —deciding to just go by, using a minimum effort at an unsatisfactory job.Wendy said that her lying-down philosophy could be summed up as “Putting the peacefulness of the body and soul first.” “According to the mainstream standard, a good lifestyle must include working hard, trying to get good results on work evaluations, struggling to buy a house and a car, and having babies,” she said, “However, I am looking forward to ‘lying down entirely’—quitting my job and living off my savings.” Tang ping has come under fire from Chinese state media. “No matter what, young people must have confidence in the future,” read a newspaper. “China is the world’s most populous country, with rich labor resources and a huge market advantage. The only happy life is a hard-working life. “The lying-down community obviously isn’t good for the country’s economic and social development,” said Guangming Daily. However, the newspaper added that tang ping shouldn’t be ignored without reflection: if China wants to encourage hard work in the young generation, it should first try to improve their quality of life.“The state is worried about what would happen if everyone stopped working,” said Huang Ping, a literature professor. “But humans aren’t merely tools for making things,” he said. To lie down is a reasonable choice rather than a negative attitude. For some young people, it’s a way for them to reduce pressure. “When you can’t catch up with society’s development— say, high house prices — tang ping is actually the most practical choice.” he said.   Lying down can be seen as the opposite of involution (内卷), referring to societies becoming trapped in continual cycles of competition. “In a relatively good social environment, people may feel involuted, but at least they’re trying” he said. “If it’s worse, people will tang ping.”Alternatively, the more motivated among the young generation have accepted FIRE—“Financial Independence, Retire Early” — in the hope of someday escaping the severe competition once and for all. 32. What is Wendy’s goal in life?  A. To keep up with society’s development.  B. To depend on her savings to live. C. To get promoted in her company.   D. To be highly evaluated at work.33. What do state media think the young should do?  A. Improve their quality of life.     B. Reflect on China’s development.              C. Base their future on hard work.     D. Live a happy life by lying down. 34. What does Professor Huang think of the “lying down” style? A. It means low quality of life for the young.B. It prevents the development of society.  C. It motivates the young to welcome their future. D. It removes the heavy life pressure from the young. 35. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs? A. A healthy society doesn’t involve competition.B. Young people prefer involution to tang ping.C. Severe competition is the main cause of lying down. D. More active young people favour severe competition.  第二节(共 5 小题;每小题2.5 , 满分12.5分)根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。We’ve all heard the expression, “Money doesn’t buy happiness.” Since happiness is a side effect of laughter, shift your focus from the secret of happiness to experiences that bring you laughter. The concept was great, but none of us seventeen-year-olds had any idea what to do. “Maybe we could have a food drive to help the homeless,” John suggested at our Sunday night meeting. “But we have done that many times, answered Brian with a frown. Ten minutes passed without any proposal good enough to win our hearts. Finally I decided to speak. “Why don’t we think about our project for a few days and then come back with three or four suggestions we can vote on?” Everyone agreed to wait a week before deciding. I knew time was running out to get something going before New Year, but I had no clue what we should do. During the following week, one idea after another ran through my mind, but I was still indecisive. Thursday after school, I wandered into the kitchen as my dad prepared for dinner. Sensing my uneasiness, he asked what troubled me without even looking up. “Well... it...” I let out a long breath. “Our youth group wants to do something for New Year, but we don’t know what to do...”“Hmm.” My dad thought out loud. “There’s a seniors’ home I’ve worked with close to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The residents don’t get out much around New Year with the snow and ice. It might be an idea to take them out to see the New Year lights around here.”I stood still for a few moments thinking of all the spectacular(绚丽的)New Year light displays in our neighborhood. My fellows put forward several suggestions and I also contributed Dad’s idea for discussion. To my pleasant surprise, the New Year lights tour won their hearts. We called the seniors’ home and they were thrilled about our proposal. The following weeks, we were busy lining up everything for the tour, including the bus to drive the seniors along the planned route. On New Year’s Day, the bus we rented arrived at the seniors’ home in the snow. Despite the cold, the snow added a magical white blanket to the neighborhood. All residents slowly found seats on the bus and the tour began. The spectacular light displays lit up their faces and I even saw some eyes filling up. Returning to the seniors’ home, they couldn’t stop talking about all they’d seen and thanked us again and again. Looking at their excited and grateful faces, we’d never felt warmer. 听力原文Text 1 M: Where’s my geography book, Mum? W: Didn’t you have it this morning?M: No. I had physics and history. Oh, it’s under my pillow.   Text 2W: I’m so excited. The lecture was excellent, right?M: Well, the topic was attractive. But there were some technical terms that I had never heard of before, so I couldn’t follow it sometimes.  Text 3W: You should look at the new smartphone over there. It comes in four colors: light blue, silver white, black, and golden. M: Golden is popular among young people, but I would prefer a black one, because this kind of color is really cool. Text 4M: Tina, are you going to the party tomorrow? W: Well, I planned to go shopping and then have a rest at home. But Jim persuaded me to go. He succeeded, anyway.   M: I’m sure you’ll have a good time. Text 5 W: Hello! Is that Mr.Johnson? I want a bouquet of roses. Can you have it delivered to my place?M: I’m afraid you’ve called the wrong number. This is 283-2938.W: Oh, sorry. I mistook the order of the last two figures.Text 6 W: Good afternoon, Dr Anderson’s office. M: Hello, this is John speaking. And I was hoping I could come to see the doctor today. W: Are you a patient of Doctor Anderson?M: No. I’m just in this town at a meeting lately and the hotel manager suggested that I call you. W: OK. The doctor will be working until 6:00. So you should come before then. Text 7M: Anna. What’s up?W: Nothing special. It is reported that the rain won’t stop until noon, and it will be sunny then. But there will be strong wind late in the afternoon.  M: That’s terrible. We can’t go bike riding or see a film.W: Right. I think we’d better watch TV this afternoon. M: Sounds like a good idea. But I’m going to clean up my room. Mum will be pleased about it.  W: You just gave me an idea. I think I’ll do the same.   M: OK. Oh, when will she be back?W: I have no idea. She took a taxi to the company this morning and she will get her car in the garage after work.  M: I see. Text 8W: Hey, Alan! Where do you like to go on holiday?M: I usually go to the beaches in Italy. I once went to France a few years ago. I liked that country. However, I still prefer the beaches because I like swimming in the sea. What about you, Lily?W: I sometimes go to the mountains in the north of Wales. My aunt lives there. And I go hiking in summer and in winter I go skiing there.  M: Oh, I’ve been there before. It is a wonderful place in the southwest of Britain. By the way, do you like touring with a group of people?W: No. I once went on a tour with some tourists. I didn’t enjoy it because sometimes I couldn’t do what I wanted. M: I agree with you in some ways. But I think if there is an experienced traveler in the group, you can save a lot of trouble.   Text 9M: Hello, Anna Holmwood! Welcome to our show! W: Hello! It’s a pleasure to be here. M: Could you please introduce yourself to us first?W: Sure. I’m a history major at the University of Oxford now. I began to learn Chinese at 21 after a trip where I developed a strong interest in China. M: Do you find it difficult to learn it?W: Yes. To be honest, I’m not as smart as others, but I’m hard-working and patient.  M: I think that’s very important. May I ask why you decided to translate Jin Yong’s novel Legends of the Condor Heroes?W: After reading it, I was deeply impressed and I hoped to bring it to foreign readers, so I managed to translate it. M: How long did it take to complete it? W: About five years. The translated book was published in 2018. It was reprinted seven times within several months in the UK.  M: You’re great. Text 10M: The COVID-19 has influenced not only our own lives, but the lives of those who live to entertain us. One of the changes I have seen personally has been in TV talk shows. Most talk show hosts depend on having a live audience to make their shows lively. Audience laugh when they tell jokes, cheer for their guests, or take part in games. But with social distancing, talk show hosts have to stay at home just like the rest of us. This, however, has made their shows interesting in a new way.As a big fan of talk shows, the hosts like Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and Stephen Colbert are all my heroes. Without guests to interview and audiences to interact with, they’ve had to put new twists on their shows. Some of them have been doing video-chat interviews with pop stars.  Other hosts choose to bring their families or other people on board for their shows. The host, Jimmy Kimmel, for example, has made videos in which he plays with his children at home. He even surprised a food delivery driver with a homemade pizza to thank him for his work.It is kind of heart-warming to see that even famous people have to struggle with the same problems we have while they’re stuck at home. But these hosts still do their best to bring us laughter. They have certainly cheered me up during my time stuck inside.
