Everything seemed nrmal that day. When we sat dwn t breakfast abard the USS Arizna, a bmb hit ur ship. I was frtunate t have nly minr injuries. When I gt t the deck, what I saw was terrible. Many f my friends were dead r thrwn int the sea. I tried my best t help thse wh were still alive and saved many peple’s lives. Sme peple regard me as a her, but I think heres are the nes that gave their lives that day.
【设计意图:先让学生通过时间线缕清故事情节,再让学生阅读并完成书本上的习题,了解并概括珍珠港被袭击前、中、后以及现状,最后通过复述来巩固所学内容。】
Step 3 Detailed reading
T asks Ss t scan each paragraph t find sme detailed infrmatin.
T asks Ss t read the first paragraph and answer the fllwing questin.
What is the main idea f the first paragraph?
It describe the rutine f the crew’s daily life.
What is the functin f the last sentence?
The last sentence creates suspense because the reader’s attentin is drawn t the pssibility that it wuld nt be a nrmal day n bard the ship. The sentence als presents a sharp cntrast between the first and secnd paragraph, thus impressing the reader with the cruelty f the sudden attack. Meanwhile, it lays the grundwrk fr the fllwing paragraphs which describe the attack in detail.
T asks Ss t read paragraph 2 and discuss hw the authr describes the sudden attack by making use f different senses.
T asks Ss read paragraph 5 and discuss the fllwing questin.
◆Why des the authr list numbers in this paragraph?
T demnstrate the huge lsses the United States suffered and the brutality f the surprise attack.
T asks Ss t read the article again and underline the sentences shwing the war’s physical and mental impacts n individuals.
Step 4 Appreciating the title
◆After reading the whle passage, nw hw d yu think f the title? Are there any figures f speech in it?
Russell describe it as “hell”. Any tpic related t the attack might awaken memries f his hrrible experience. At the same time, metaphr is used here t make the descriptin mre pwerful. The authr cmpares the Pearl Harbr attack t “hell” t emphasize the devastatin f the attack. At the same time, suspense is created, making the reader wnder what exactly happened at Pearl Harbr.
【设计说明:读完文章之后再次赏析标题,让学生了解这个标题之中的“妙”,也是对之前学生预测的印证。】
Step 5 Further thinking
T asks Ss t finish part B n page 40.
◆Why shuld we never frget the attack n Pearl Harbr?
We shuld never frget the attack n Pearl Harbr because it is a reminder f the hrrr f war. Many lives are lst in wars. Families are trn apart and thse wh survive wars are ften left with injuries t their bdies r their minds. The traumas f war make it difficult fr them t live a nrmal life after experiencing things s frightening like bmbs thundering, thing being destryed, and peple struggling. Furthermre, the attack n Pearl Harbr shuld be a reminder that maintaining peace thrughut the wrld is the nly way this kind f tragedy wuld never happen again.
【设计说明:让学生看到文本的最后一句话,引发学生思考“为何不应该忘记珍珠港事件”,这问题的设置既是对文章中心意思的回顾,更是对学生情感态度价值观的培养。】

为何要“勿忘历史”;
作为中学生,我们应该如何做。
【设计意图:该部分是对课文主题的升华,在“珍珠港事件”的基础上,让学生思考为何要“勿忘历史”,又该怎样做。】
