Dear Tom,
The 2022 Winter Olympics was held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou, China from February 4 to 20, 2022. Due to the epidemic, foreign audience cannot come to China to watch it. I’d like to introduce it to you.
The emblem of the Winter Olympic Games is "Winter Dream" and the mascot is "Bing Dwen Dwen". Seven major events including 102 branches are covered. Beijing is responsible for all the ice events, while Yanqing and Zhangjiakou will take charge of all the snow events. It is the first time that China has hosted the Winter Olympic Games. We all wish it successful.
I will share more with you next time.
Yours
Lihua
One possible version:
When Edward came home, his father asked what books he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. “I have bought no books,” said he, “I gave my money to some poor people, who seemed to be very hungry and wretched. I think I can wait for my books till next New Year. Oh, if you had seen how glad they were to receive the money!” To his surprise, his father didn’t criticize him and went to fetch a bundle of books.
“My dear boy,” said his father, “here is a whole bundle of books.” He told Edward that he saw Edward give the money to the poor German family. It was no small sum for a little boy to give cheerfully. He was very proud of his son. “I give them to you as a reward for your goodness of heart than as a New-year gift. Be thus ever ready to help the poor, and wretched, and distressed; and every year of your life will be to you a happy New Year.”

Text 1
W: So are you going to Paris tonight?
M: No. I have to stay here for a meeting with my boss tomorrow.
W: Oh, well, never mind. Now you can come to Helen’s party tonight.
Text 2
M: When does the next bus leave for London?
W: Buses leave for London every half hour. You just missed the 9:30 bus by five minutes.
Text 3
M: Are you looking forward to your trip to Hawaii?
W: Not really. If I had my way, I’d stay and get some sleep, but everyone else in my family wants to go.
M: Oh, I’m sure you won’t regret it when you get there.
Text 4
M: How often do you do the shopping?
W: About once a month.
M: Who usually does it?
W: My mother. My father sometimes does it, and my brothers do it once or twice a year.
Text 5
M: Did anyone phone while I was out, Miss Bradley?
W: No. Nobody phoned, but … er … Mr. Powell came.
M: What? But he’s the man I told you about!
W: Yes, I know, but …
Text 6
W: Hi, could you help me find a place where I could buy some lunch?
M: Sure! What kind of food would you like?
W: I was thinking of pizza or something else Italian, maybe.
M: I know the perfect place!
W: Good! Where is it?
M: It’s right past that last building on the left.
W: Thank you.
Text 7
M: It was one of the most interesting exhibitions I’ve ever seen.
W: I couldn’t agree more.
M: Those early vehicles didn’t have a roof, so you had to protect yourself. Even the first buses were open-top and, come to think of it, so were the first trains.
W: I suppose you must have been able to enjoy the scenery, though, and going so slowly probably meant you had a good view of everything!
Text 8
W: I need to order new business cards.
M: Do you have any idea how many you’d like?
W: I think 2,000 would be enough.
M: Would you fill out this form, please?
W: I don’t want to make any changes to my old card.
M: We guarantee satisfaction. Otherwise, you get your money back.
W: That’s it. Here’s the form, and here’s my old card to use as a model.
M: Thank you. Your order will be ready seven days from now.
W: I need it sooner. Can I have it in three days?
M: If you don’t mind paying a little extra, it’s absolutely no problem.
Text 9
M: Hi, how can I help you today?
W: I’d like to get a work-study job so I can start paying off my student loan.
M: Wonderful! How much time do you have each week to work?
W: Um, I’m not sure. Maybe 10 to 20 hours.
M: Twenty hours? That’s a lot, young lady. You’ve got to learn how to balance your study, work and leisure time.
W: Yeah, that makes sense. What do you recommend?
M: I would suggest something that gives you time to study while you’re working.
W: Yeah, that sounds great. What kind of job lets me study while I work?
M: How about working in the library? Usually it’s just assisting students in finding something. That only takes a couple of minutes. In between students, you can study.
W: OK. How much does it pay?
M: It pays $20 an hour, but half of that goes toward your loan. That’s what this program is all about – helping you pay off your debt. So if you work six hours a week, you’ll pocket $60.
W: All right. It sounds fine.
Text 10
W: Okay, everyone. I want to review the first two days of our travel arrangements. Please take out the paper that I handed out earlier. Uh, let’s see. Okay, everyone should meet at the airport at 9 am. This will give you time to check in and get through security. Our plane departs at 11 and arrives in New York at 3 pm. We will take a bus from the airport to the hotel. In the morning, for any of you who like to get exercise, we will go jogging around Central Park for about 45 minutes, and we’ll get back to the hotel about the time when the restaurant opens, so you’ll have enough time to have a quick breakfast before we leave the hotel at 8. We’ll be taking a ferry ride to Ellis Island, and later, we will go to Times Square, where you can have lunch on your own for about an hour. Later in the afternoon, we’ll be visiting the Empire State Building. Uh, we will meet back at the hotel at 6 pm, and then we’ll have dinner at a very nice Italian restaurant downtown.
