Jason and Caden have been good "wagon pullers" since the second day of school. They are amazing and so great about taking turns pulling or pushing the wagon in the kindergarten game. The game needs everyone to work together to make the wagon move forward to the destination. Today, their teacher, Jenny, asked Jason if he could be a "teacher", to train a new student, Bradley, to pull the wagon.

Jason was so cute and said, "How about letting him be a pusher, not be a puller?" It was at very great idea, and Jason had good observation capability! He found Bradley wasn't quite strong enough to pull the wagon.

When visitors to the Palace Museum feel a need to sit down for a cup of tea or find a bathroom without a long line, they soon will be able to turn to their smart phones for the information they need.

This modern day solution comes thanks to an agreement signed on Friday by the museum and Huawei Co., the telecommunication giant, to build a “smart network” using 5G technology. Under the agreement, 5G Wi-Fi signals will cover the Palace Museum, China's royal palace from 1420 to 1911, and the branch museum of the institution under construction in northwestern Beijing.

“It’s essential to always stay close to the latest technology to better serve the public,” said Shan Jixiang, former director of the Palace Museum. Shan said there is still much room for improvement in the handling of a huge number of cultural relics (文物), such as when the priceless painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival is exhibited again in the future. When it was last exhibited in 2015, visitors stood in long lines until 3 am to get a glimpse. The museum ended up preparing instant noodles to serve the hungry visitors. “I don't want that scenario to reoccur," Shan said. “Our operation can be done in a more scientific way.

The new system will also make use of the closed--circuits television cameras that are set up all over the Palace Museum to safeguard the museum's precious relics. More than 1.86 million of them are housed at the museum, which recorded nearly 20 million visits from the public last year, topping all museums worldwide. “How can we make sure no single visitor who might have evil ideas threatens these treasures?" Shan said. “After adopting the internet of things, we can instantly detect any motion involving the artifacts to prevent such threats.”

The 5G network also will be used to improve remote consultation through webcams, which will facilitate conversations with overseas scholars to jointly find the best answers for restoration and preservation issues.

If yes, you're not alone. These days, many people suffer from the stress of FOMO (fear of missing out). They reach for their mobile phones when they wake up in the morning, and for the rest of the day, they constantly scroll down the timelines of their social media apps to get the latest updates.

Despite the convenience smartphones bring, many people struggle with their digital habits.

As Sameer Samat, US tech company vice president of product management, said in his speech at the 2018 Google I/O developer conference on May 8, 70% of people don’t want to spend so much time on their phones.

This is why during the conference Google introduced an app called Dashboard for the new version of its Android operating system. This new app includes well-being functions that aim to help users manage the time they spend on their digital devices.

It all starts with a bird’s-eye view. Dashboard allows users to look at all the details of their phone habits. For example, users can see how many times they’ve unlocked their phone and how many times they’ve checked their social media apps, as well as how much time they spend on each app every day.

Once the users see this information, they'll be able to make some changes. With the App Timer functions, users can set a time limit for how long they can use each app for every day. After they've hit the limit, they won't be able to launch the app until the next day.

But even if users become more mindful of their usage, they’re still likely to be drawn in by notifications (通知). This is where the Shush feature comes in. It automatically silences incoming calls and notifications when a user puts his/her phone face down.

If people truly want to make full use of their free time instead of losing hours using their smartphones, these new functions are just one way of doing that.
