Step1

Leads Ss to act out the dialogues

of their homework in groups of 3 in class. Helps Ss review what they’ve learnt in Period 1.

Step2

Show five groups of pictures and ask

Ss to pronounce them, and then ask:

Is there the same letter in each

group?

Ask Ss to observe and find out the vowels: a, e, i, o, u.

Show one group of words (apple and snake), and asks: Does the letter a have the same sound? Then lead Ss to discover the differences between two sounds in the words.

Step3

Play the recording of Ex. 5 for Ss to listen for the first time.

pauses after each pair and ask Ss to

tell what sound the letter makes in each word.

Checks the answers and reviews some words: maths, history, geography.

Lead Ss to sum up  the basic rules about the sounds of the letters.

Explain the instruction of Ex. 6 by giving an example. then ask Ss to read the note and find a word with the same sound as each word below.

Then ask Ss to check the answers in

 pairs, and then in class.

Explain the instruction by giving an

example. Then ask Ss to make a

dialogue in pairs, while T monitors closely and makes sure that Ss are identifying the correct sound.

Check the answers in a competition. Divide the class into 3 groups. One student chooses one sound card to ask the rest of the Ss to say the word with the same sound. The first one to say the correct word wins 10 points. Add up the points and see which group wins.
