多用在口语中,表示请求或允许,意为“可以;能够”等。用于疑问句中用来提出要求,用于否定句中表示不允许。

情态动词can表示推测时,常用于否定句或疑问句,意为“(不)可能”。用于肯定句中表示理论上的可能性,意为“有时会”。
例:这里的春天有时可能会非常冷。

情态动词can除了表示能力、许可或猜测之外,还可以表示邀请;culd较can更礼貌、委婉。表示邀请时的用法如下:
(1)当用情态动词can发出邀请时,用一般疑 问句Can+主语+动词原形+其他?
例:你能来参加我的聚会吗?

(2)当用情态动词can发出邀请时,其回答分 为两类。一类表示接受邀请,另一类表示 拒绝邀请。

情态动词有:may/might, can/culd, must, have t, shall/shuld, will/wuld, ught t, need, dare, used t
1. 不能独立作谓语,只能和动词原形一起构成谓语, 表示说话人的语气和情态。2. 没有人称和数的变化。 (have t除外)3. 否定形式:在其之后加nt (have t除外)。 疑问形式:情态动词提到主语之前 (have t 除外)。
都可表示“许可” 。may用于较正式、 客气的场合,而can比较随便(口语)。 Yu may/can sit here. The pliceman says yu can’t park here.
(2) May/Can I/we…? 表示征询对方许可。 Can yu…? 表示请求。 — May I use yur phne? — Yes, yu can. / Yes, please. N, yu can’t. / N, yu mustn’t.

(3) 都可表示“可能性”
否定句This news may nt be true. (也许不 = might nt )This news can’t be true. (不可能 = culdn’t)疑问句Can this news be true?(=Culd)≠May this news be true?

2. can/be able t
have t 后接动词原形;have t有人称、数和时态的变化, 其第三人称单数形式为has t,其疑问形式和否定形式要借助于助动词d, des或did来完成。
3. have t的意思是“必须、不得不”, 往往 强调由于客观原因而必须做某事。
我们不得不在家照顾我们的妹妹。We have t lk after ur sister at hme.明天早上他必须早起吗?Des he have t get up early tmrrw mrning? 今天我不必呆在家里。I dn’t have t stay at hme tday.
(1) 这4个情态动词没有人称的变化,而have t有, 它的第三人称单数为“has t” 如: He shuld study hard. He has t study hard.
4. 情态动词“have t”与其他的情态动词如 “can”, “may” “must” 和 “shuld” 不同。
例: 他能和我们一起去吗? 他不能和我们一起去。
(2) 这4个情态动词在一般疑问句中将它们放在 句首,在否定句中直接在他们后边加nt即可。

must表示主观“必须”;have t表示客观需要,即“不得不” 。
