    In Nrth America, many schls allw students t chse which curses they want t take. Chinese is increasingly being taught as a freign language in Western high schls. Hwever, in Nrth America by far, the mst ppular freign languages taught in high schls are French and Spanish.
    Schl System
    The Nrth American schl system generally has kindergarten, fllwed by 12 grades f primary and secndary schls(中学). Mst high schls are frm the 9th t the 12th grade. 9th grade students are called freshmen;10th grade students are called sphmres; 11th junirs;12th senirs.
    Sup Kitchens
    Sup kitchens are cmmn in Nrth America. They exist t prvide fd fr hmeless r pr peple. Even thugh they are called sup kitchens, many n lnger serve sup. They serve fd that is like that eaten in many peple’s hmes.
    Students’ clubs and Extra-Curricular Activities
    There are many extra-curricular activities and clubs available fr students in the US. These can vary frm learning cmputer prgramming t cmpetitive sprt. These activities can be very imprtant fr applying fr cllege. They give a fuller picture f a student by shwing what they are interested in and what their extended skill set(拓展技能组合) is. Many clleges in the US als give schlarship t thse wh excel in certain sprts.
