(2022·四川广元)Can you imagine a cloud floating in the middle of your room? Do you want to know what it feels like to fly like a bird? Here, we have picked out four interesting inventions to share with you.
    Talking Gloves
Four foreign students have created a pair of gloves, and it helps people to communicate with people who have hearing and speaking problems. The gloves are equipped with sensors (传感器). They recognize sign language and translate it into text on a smartphone. Then the smartphone changes the text to spoken words. Thus you can understand sign language easily.
    Google Glasses
Google Glasses are like a computer built into a pair of glasses. Then the glasses allow you to surf the Internet and make calls without even lifting a finger. The glasses also have a camera and GPS mapping system. Users can take and share photos, check maps and surf the Internet just by looking up, down, left and right.
    Indoor Clouds
That’s a real world. An artist, Smilde managed to create a small but perfect white cloud in the middle of a room using a fog machine. But it required careful planning — the temperature, humidity (湿度) and lighting all had to be just right. The cloud only lasted for a short while, though.
    Wingsuits
The suit realizes your dream of flying like a bird. Well, not exactly flying, but gliding (滑翔) through the air. It increases the surface area of the human body, which makes it easier for people to float in the air. Fliers wearing wingsuits can glide one kilometer in about 30 seconds.
    11. What do “Talking Gloves” help people to understand?
    A.Spoken words. B.Sign language.
C.Written words. D.The text on the smartphone.
    12. How can users of “Google Glasses” surf the Internet?
A.By speaking to the glasses. B.By tapping the keyboard.
C.By lifting a finger. D.By moving the eyeballs.
    13. How did the artist create a white cloud in the room?
    A.With a fog machine. B.With right temperature.
C.With a fog machine and careful planning. D.With a fog machine and right lighting.
    14. Which of the following can help you fly?
    A.Talking Gloves. B.Wingsuits.
    C.Google Glasses. D.Indoor Clouds.
    15. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Four Interesting Inventions B.Four Famous Inventions
C.The Advantages of Four Inventions D.Four Dreams of the Future

(2021·四川广元)A small cloud moves slowly through the air in a hospital operating room (手术室). In the room a patient with cancer(癌症), lies on a table. The cloud is all around the patient, covering her body and filling her lungs(肺). The cloud is not smoke. It is made of millions of nano-robots(纳米机器人). These tiny robots move from cell (细胞) to cell in the patient’s body, killing the cancer.
Fighting cancer with nano-robots is only an idea today, but scientists say that it could be possible in the future. Using nano-robots for good purposes such as fighting the illness or repairing the environment may be the way to many of today’s problems.
However, nano-robots could be a dangerous risk as well. Because nano-robots are so tiny, they will have to work in large teams of many thousands to many millions. For this reason, nano-robots will have to be programmed(被编程) to build themselves. Scientists will not have the ability to build millions of nano-robots one by one.
This ability to re-produce is making some scientists worried. What will happen if something goes wrong in the programming? Quite a lot of crazy nano-robots would be far worse than any illness. Some people think that if they get out of control, nano-robots could make the Earth gone.
What should be done? Should we continue researching nano-robots or should we search for other methods? This is one of the many difficult decisions that we have to make in the future.

Do you like reading? It is very important for us to learn or study through reading. But now many students say they don’t have enough time to read. So we need some skills to help read more in less time while we are doing some reading in class. Here are two skills that I think are very good.
Preview(预读)—if your article is long as well as difficult, such as long magazine articles or science reports, previewing is very useful for you to get a general idea.
    Here is how to preview.
●Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
●Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
Of course you can’t get all the details by previewing. It tells you not to spend time on things you don’t really want or need to read.
Skim(浏览)—if your article is short and simple, like popular magazines or the sports of your daily paper, skimming is a good way to get a main idea. Here’s how to skim.
●Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep across each line.
●Pick up only a few key words in each line
Everybody skims differently.   You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same passage, but perhaps we’ll get the idea of what it’s all about.
I wish all of us could read more books and enjoy reading every day!
    Topic: Two Good ___46___ Skills
    The way of previewing
    long and difficult articles.
●Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
●Read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
to get not all the details ___47___ what you want or need to read.
    The way of ___48___
    short and ___49___ articles.
●Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep across each line.
●Pick up only a few key words in each line.
to get the ___50___ idea of an article.
