David Bennett, a 57-year-old man from the US, received the world’s first pig heart transplant(移植)on January 7th, 2022. He died two months later on March 9th.
It may sound like a failure, but it actually is a big step forward for xenotransplantation(异种器官移植).
Xenotransplantation has been a hot topic in medical research for many years.Doctors and scientists look for ways to solve the big problem of organ(器官)transplant waiting lists. In the US alone, over 100,000 patients are on a list waiting for new organs. Many of them will die before getting their chance to receive a heart, a kidney(肾)or other important organs. As a result, medical science has turned to animal organs.
Doctors have experimented with xenotransplantation since the early 20th century. There are few success stories. Usually, patients’ bodies reject(排斥)the animal organs. Bennet lived much longer than other xenotransplantation patients. That’s because scientists removed pig genes(基因)that would cause fast rejection. Then they added human genes to help the body accept the organ.
In fact, Bennett’s case was not the only success. Doctors at New York University attached(连接)gene-edited pig kidneys to a human patient’s blood vessels(血管)outside of the body in 2021. Doctors at University of Alabama put the gene-edited pig kidneys inside a patient’s body in the same year.
Though these successes were short-lived, they show that there may be a way forward for xenotransplantation. “A lot of new information will come out. The development of this field will benefit from it and move forward at faster speed.” Muhammad Mohiuddin, director of the transplant program, told The Guardian.

C.Compared with human organs, animal organs are easier to get.
D.Patients cannot accept the animal organs in their bodies.
8.According to Paragraph 4, what may the main problem of xenotransplantation be? ________
A.Patients’ ideas. B.Bodies’ rejection.
C.The high price. D.The number of organs.
9.What does the underlined word “benefit” mean in Chinese in the last paragraph? ________
A.得益 B.赞扬 C.传播 D.涉及
10.What does the writer think of xenotransplantation? ________
A.It should be stopped because of the death cases.
B.It has become more and more popular.
C.It is too difficult to carry on.
D.It is valuable and worth researching.

Recycling is a way to take rubbish and turn it into new products. It’s helpful to our environment. There are a number of different recycling steps that allow materials to be used more than once.
All kinds of materials can be recycled. Some of the most common things in use today include recycling plastic, glass, metals and paper. Things made of these materials include soda cans, plastic milk boxes, newspapers, computers and cardboard boxes.
There are a number of advantages for recycling. These include: Landfills—Recycling materials means less rubbish and saves space in landfills. Resources—When we use materials again, this means we can take fewer resources from the earth. Pollution—in general, recycling materials can produce less pollution, helping to keep our environment clean.
Be sure to recycle everything you can in your house and school. There is almost a “recycle” rubbish can around. Be sure to drop your used aluminum cans and plastic bottles there. At home, be sure to put paper things like the newspapers, paper boxes, and homework pages into the recycle box.
Plastics are usually marked with an identification code that shows a recycling symbol and a number from 1 to 7. This shows that the type of chemicals, or materials, is used in making the plastic. Used paper can be recycled around seven times.
It is high time we set up a recycle station in every street, across the city and the country, so the cleaners can transport the rubbish conveniently. This is the only way out for handling rubbish without causing danger to the environment and our health. For ourselves, our children and our children’s children, let’s take action NOW!

Each year there are at least five million people around the world who develop serious(流感) and almost half a million deaths. When someone we know gets the flu virus (病毒), we expect them to be very careful not to pass it on to others. Doctors and nurses working with flu patients also need to protect themselves from the virus. But what is the best way to do this? This is the question that Professor Jonathan Van-Tam is trying to answer. He wants to find out how flu is transmitted (传播), so that he can stop doctors and nurses getting sick.
Since 2008 Van-Tam has been in charge of an Intentional group studying how the flu virus travels. For the first time, 41 volunteers agreed to live together. They lived in a clinic(诊所)in Cambridgeshire for two weeks, where they came into contact with the flu virus.
Van-Tam explains their methods. "Everyone lives together in the small space for four days. Some wear face masks, and wash hands every 15 minutes, but some have no protection. "
In his way we can study who catches the flu and which ways of transmitting flu are important.
The experiment (试验) is not simple. At the moment the team are working on three studies.

The Chang’e 5 robotic probe (探测器) has become China’s first spaceship to bring the country’s national flag to the Moon.
The scene of the Five Starred Red Flag against the dark sky on the grey lunar surface was taken by a camera on the Chang’e 5 robotic probe’s lander and then sent to the ground control. In Chang’e 3 and 4 tasks, the national flag was painted on the spaceship. Therefore, the flag carried by Chang’e 5 is the first Chinese national flag that has been planted on the Moon.
The system to raise the flag was designed and produced by engineers at China Space Sanjiang Group in Hubei Province. It has three parts.
Because of the strong radiation (辐射) and the terrible temperatures on the Moon, we couldn’t use traditional fabrics (面料). If we place an ordinary flag on the Moon, its colors will quickly become lighter. Designers spent more than one year choosing and testing ideal materials, and finally picked a new kind of material that can resist the very difficult conditions on the Moon.
36.The Chang’e 5 brought the flag outside the space.
