The tree was planted near the church fifty years ag, but it is nly in recent years that it has gained an evil reputatin. It is said that if anyne tuches the tree, he will have bad luck; if he picks a leaf, he will die. Many villagers believe that the tree has already claimed a number f victims. The vicar has been asked t have the tree cut dwn,
but s far he has refused. He has pinted ut that the tree is a useful surce f incme, as turists have been cming frm all parts f the cuntry t see it. In spite f all that has been said, the turists have been picking leaves and cutting their names n the tree-trunk. S far, nt ne f them has been struck dwn by sudden death!
