The tradition of Afternoon Tea is a very special part of English culture.Afternoon Tea is served mid﹣afternoon, intended as refreshment between lunch and a late dinner. The idea came from Anna, the Seventh Duchess of Bedford,in 1840.At the time, kerosene (蜡油) lamps were introduced in wealthier homes, and eating a late dinner (around 8 p.m.) became fashionable. This increasingly late dinner was one of only two main meals each day,the other was a mid﹣morning, breakfast﹣like meal.
With a long period of time between breakfast and dinner,Anna would become hungry around four o'clock in the afternoon. It is around this time that Anna is said to have complained of"having that sinking feeling"" This was likely fatigue from hunger during the long wait between meals. Thus, she requested a tray of tea, bread and butter and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.
Later, friends were invited to join her in her rooms at Woburn Abbey. And this practice proved so popular that the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for"tea and a walking the fields".
Others quickly picked up on the idea. The practice became respectable enough to move it into the drawing﹣room. Before long this pause for tea became a fashionable social event.

    Louis Pasteur:Father of Microbiology
Louis Pasteur is known as one of the most important scientist in history.Pasteur is famous for developing the germ (细菌) theory of disease, creating the process of pasteurization (巴氏灭菌法),and for changing the way that scientists create vaccines (疫苗).
Louis Pasteur was born on December 27,1822 in Dole,a small town in eastern France.During his early education,he was an average student who enjoyed art. This changed however,in his high school years,as he became more and more interested in scientific subject. He earned his bachelor (学士) of arts degree in 1840,and a bachelor of science degree in 1842.He moved to Paris to study physics and chemistry and received his doctoral degree in 1847.
In 1848,he became a professor of chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, where he met Marie Laurent. He and Marie married in 1849.They had five children, however, three died young, from typhoid fever. It was the deaths of his children that drove Louis to investigate infectious (传染性的) diseases in order to find a cure.
During Pasteur's time, people believed that microbes (微生物) such as bacteria appeared due to"spontaneous generation (自然发生)".Pasteur ran experiments.Through his experiments he proved that germs (bacteria) were living things that came from other living things. They didn't just spontaneously appear. This was a major discovery in the study of biology.
He also discovered that milk turns sour because of tiny organisms that are too small to be seen without a microscope. This discovery led to the development of pasteurization (named after him),the process of gently heating food or drink to kill harmful germs. Thanks to Pasteur's research, many of the drinks we buy today are safe to drink.

The tradition of Afternoon Tea is a very special part of English culture.Afternoon Tea is served mid﹣afternoon, intended as refreshment between lunch and a late dinner.
Traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of dainty sandwiches, scones served with clotted cream.Nowadays however, afternoon tea is likely to be just a biscuit or small cake and a mug of tea.

Looking at the ink bottle,pens,and white paper,(看着墨水瓶、钢笔和白纸,)可知,这些都是写作(writing)用的工具,故选:H。
I've loved my mother's desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it.(自从我刚刚高到可以看到上面的东西时我很喜欢我妈妈的书桌。)
But as a young girl,I wanted heart﹣to﹣heart talks between mother and daughter.(但作为一个年轻的女孩,我希望母女之间能进行心与心的对话。)
I never saw her be angry or cry.(我从未见过她生气或哭泣。)
My hope turned into disappointment,(我的希望变成了失望,) 可知,没有人(none)回信给作者,故选:B。
I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside ﹣﹣ a photo of my father and a one﹣page letter, folded and refolded many times.(我仔细地擦了擦桌子,发现里面有一些文件——一张我父亲的照片和一封一页的信,折叠了很多次。)
Amy was looking for a gift for her little daughter. She stopped in front of a store full of dolls.
"Girls like dolls," she thought as she stepped into the store.
Looking around, she saw a grandma doll that has gray hair and wears a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her own mother.
When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third...the dolls never arrived late, year after year.
"Why always a doll?" This question had been in Amy's mind until one day her father gave the answer.
Joyce dreamed of having a doll when she was a child herself. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday.Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never﹣received gift was the most precious (珍贵的) one in her eyes.
Recalling her mother's story,Amy got an idea.
It was Joyce's 60th birthday. She got a package with a card that read:
    Dear Jayce,
I forgot to send you a package that you should have received on your fifth birthday,in 1956.
The gift inside has aged, but I felt that you might still want to have it.
    Love,
    Angel of Joy
Joyce opened the package and saw a lovely grandma doll. She clasped (紧抱) the doll that she had waited so many years for, with tears running down her face. The doll, given by her"Angel of Joy",made her the happiest "child" in the world.

    假如你是短文中的Joyce,请你给来信者写一封回信。
    要求:
    (1)书信格式完整;
    (2)根据语篇内容,合理安排书信内容,表达写信者真情实感;
    (3)词数不少于100词。
    【解答】Dear Amy,
Thank you for sending me a package.I know this gift must be from you.I love the gift very much. (表示感谢)Although it is many years late,it means a lot to me.You know,I dreamed of having a doll when I was a child.【高分句型一】My parents promised one for my fifth birthday.Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never﹣received gift was the most precious one in my eyes.(回想往事)I am my mother's little girl, and she loves me as much as you I love you.The grandma doll is not only your love for me,but also my mother's love for me.【高分句型二】(礼物的意义)
    Yours,
    Jayce
