The United Natin’s weather agency says the past 10 years were likely the httest decade since scientists began keeping recrds. In a new reprt, the Wrld Meterlgical Organizatin, r WMO, blames the rising temperatures mainly n greenhuse gases prduced by human activities.
“Average temperatures fr the five-year, 2015-t-2019 and 10-year, 2010-t-2019 perids are almst certain t be the highest n recrd,” the WMO said. The reprt predicted that 2019 wuld becme the secnd—r third—warmest year n recrd. Petteri Taalas is the Secretary-General f the WMO. He says severe heatwaves and flds that used t happen abut nce every hundred years have becme “regular” events.
“Cuntries ranging frm the Bahamas t Japan t Mzambique suffered the effect f destructive trpical cyclnes(旋风). Wildfires swept thrugh the Arctic and Australia,” he nted.
Taalas said that ne f the main effects f climate change is the lack f predictable rainfall. This presents a threat t successful harvests and will likely create fd security prblems in sme cuntries in the future, he said. The reprt said climate change was a main driver f a recent increase in wrld hunger after 10 years f decrease. It estimated that abut 820 millin peple suffered frm hunger in 2018.
The WMO said that weather disasters have displaced millins f peple this year and many had t flee t ther places t find shelter. Oceans, which take in an estimated 90 percent f the extra heat prduced by greenhuse gases, are nw at their highest recrded temperatures. Sea water is als 25 percent mre acidic than it was 150 years ag, the reprt said. This is threatening cean envirnments that prvide fd and jbs fr billins f peple.
Levels f carbn dixide in the atmsphere reached a recrd 407.8 parts per millin in 2018 and cntinued t rise in 2019. Experts say carbn dixide can be damaging because it can remain in the atmsphere fr hundreds f years and in the cean fr even lnger.

(原创)Mst f the effrts aimed at reducing climate change fcus n reducing the use f fssil fuels(矿物燃料). But a new study warns that pllutin caused by the wrld’s fd prductin system is als a majr driver f rising temperatures n the planet. The study fund that if the wrld fd system stays n its current grwth path, it will prduce nearly 1.4 trillin metric tns f greenhuse gases ver the next 80 years.
That pllutin is expected t cme frm fertilizers used in agriculture, mismanaged sil and fd waste. Other causes include land-clearing peratins and defrestatin(森林采伐). Researchers frm the University f Minnesta and the University f Oxfrd in Britain led the study, which recently appeared in the Publicatin Science.
The researchers predict that even if fssil fuel emissins(排放) were stpped nw, emissins frm the wrld fd system wuld make it impssible t reach current internatinal climate change targets. They say that emissins frm fd prductin alne culd push wrld temperatures past 1.5 degrees Celsius by the middle f this century and abve 2 degrees Celsius by the end f the century. A main gal f the 2015 United Natin’s Paris Agreement n climate change is t keep rises in the Earth’s temperature during this century t between 1.5 t 2 degrees Celsius. The U.N. has said that in rder t stay belw the 1.5 Celsius level, emissins must fall at least 7.6 percent each year thrugh 2030.
The new study calls fr immediate “imprvements in farming practices, as well as changes in what we eat and hw much fd we waste,” t help reach the Paris Agreement gals. Jasn Hill is a prfessr f bisystems engineering at the University f Minnesta. He helped lead the study. He said in a statement that the research clearly shws that fd has a much greater effect n climate change than is widely knwn.
8.What’s the finding f the new study?
A.Fssil fuels are verused.
B.The use f fssil fuels causes climate change.
C.The use f fssil fuels is a majr driver f rising temperatures.
D.The wrld’s fd prductin system leads t rising temperatures.
9.What are the factrs causing pllutin?
①Fertilizers ②Fd waste ③Land-clearing peratins ④irrigatin
A.①②B.①③
C.①②④D.①②③
10.What can we knw frm the last paragraph?
A.Changing what we eat is imprtant fr ur health.
B.It’s hard t reach internatinal climate change targets.
C.Farming practices cntribute t fd waste.
D.Fd has a much bigger impact n the envirnment than we expected.
11.What’s the main idea f the passage?
A.Climate change mainly results frm fssil fuels.
B.Wrld fd prductin having effects n climate change.
C.It’s f great imprtance t reduce wrld fd prductin.
D.Several measures are taken t reduce envirnmental pllutin.

Nw it’s time t let g. Let g f the past, and stp reliving it. All yu shuld d is t make tday the best day f yur life. When yu fcus n the here and nw, yu have less time t think abut the past. When the past memries creep int yur cnsciusness, acknwledge them fr a mment. __4__
Frgive them and yurself.
We may nt have t frget anther persn’s bad behavirs, but virtually everybdy deserves ur frgiveness. Smetimes we get stuck in ur pain and ur stubbrnness, we can’t even imagine frgiveness. Frgiveness isn’t a sign f weakness.
2.C 根据小标题“Make the decisin t let it g.”可知,本段主要讲“做个决定,让它过去”,结合空后的一句“Yu need t make the cmmitment t ’let it g.’”
故选A项。
同时E项中的“and then”与空前的“fr a mment”在时间上构成“先后顺序”。
