In a new study, scientists reviewed glbal research n trends in tree seedlings(籽苗), grwth and death. They cmbined thse data with an analysis f defrestatin. And they fund that wrldwide, lder trees are dying at a higher rate than in the past due t factrs like rising air temperature, wildfires, drught and pathgens(病原菌).
“And mst f the drivers f that decrease in large, ld trees are increasing themselves, such as temperature ging up, drughts are mre severe, wildfires, windstrms and defrestatin are all n the increase—althugh variable acrss the glbe—they’re generally increasing. And s bth the lss has already ccurred, but we expect mre cntinued lss f big, ld trees.”
Nate McDwell, an earth scientist at Pacific Nrthwest Natinal Lab, wh was ne f the study’s authrs. “S if we have an increasing rate f death, particularly f the larger, lder trees, what’s left are the yunger trees. S that’s why, n average, thrugh the lss f bigger, lder trees, ur frests are becming inherently yunger and shrter.”
This is a prblem, because ld trees are vitally imprtant.
“Fr sure, the increase in death des limit the carbn strage f an ecsystem and can frce the system t becme a carbn surce t the atmsphere. The secnd reasn we care is frm a bidiversity perspective(角度): ld grwth trees tend t huse a higher bidiversity than yung frests d. And anther reasn is aesthetic: As a sciety, we care abut these trees. We have natinal parks named after these big trees. S there’s a persnal reasn fr peple t care abut this as well.”
8.What’s the results f the new study?
A.Trees are disappearing in a rapid way.
B.The glbal climate is becming warmer and warmer.
C.Older trees are dying at a much higher rate than befre.
D.Wildfires, drught and pathgens happen mre ften than befre.
9.What’s the prbable meaning f the underlined wrd “drivers” in Paragraph 3?
A.Operatrs.B.Factrs.
C.Researchers.D.Participants.
10.What can we knw by what McDwell said?
A.Frests are dying ut.
B.It’s hard t prevent the death f frests.
C.Yunger trees are grwing faster than lder trees.
D.The frests are becming mre and mre yunger.

这与空后的“cming up with a plan”相对应,属于词汇复现。
