It's 11 p.m., and I'm still sitting here writing this article fr the schl magazine! I've had tw weeks t write it, and my teacher, Julia, wants it tmrrw. She's always cmplaining (抱怨) that I leave things till the last minute. Maybe she's right.
A mnth ag I made a decisin t be mre efficient (有效率的) this year. Well, I've clearly failed. I've als been trying t get fitter fr fur weeks nw. I've started ging t the health club. I've even been ging t bed earlier. But I'm nt feeling any fitter, just a little unhappier. I miss my bad habits. Why is leading a better life s hard?
I've just read an article n a website, and I've discvered that it isn't my fault (过错)! In fact, it isn't anyne's fault. It's ur brain's. It's prgrammed t make it difficult t break bad habits. There's nthing we can d. Scientists have dne experiments that shw we use ne part f ur brain when we think abut urselves and anther when we think abut ther peple. Hwever, when we think abut urselves in the future, we use the same part f the brain that we usually use t think abut ther peple. In ther wrds, the brain sees the “future yu” as a different persn than yur “present yu.” That's why we dn't always find it easy t make gd decisins fr urselves in the future.
But that's nt all. Scientists have als discvered that it takes arund ten weeks t frm a gd habit. That's the amunt (数量) f time the brain needs t accept new behaviral patterns (形式). The gd news is that nce yu make it t ten weeks, everything becmes a lt easier. The bad news is that ten weeks is a really lng time, s it's easy t give up what yu want t d befre then.
S even when we want t change ur ways and becme better peple, ur brains wn't let us. Or is this just an excuse? Lk — I've finished my article n time! Anything is pssible!

I lived in a flat in Ealing Bradway with several ther students frm different American schls. The biggest surprise I fund there was the culture shck I experienced. I had expected traveling t Lndn t be an easy transitin (转变) fr me because I thught their culture was clse t that f America. But yu knw the language and the peple were greatly different frm what I had expected. They had different accents. In fact, they were nisy and mre freethinking than mst Americans I knew.
Hwever, I tried t take part in their giant Chinese New Year celebratin in Trafalgar Square. I went t several Jewish sciety hliday celebratins and actively participated in any cultural activities I knew at that time. It was great t be able t truly put myself in their culture. These are experiences I culdn't get anywhere else.
