    Step 1 Lead-in
    1. Ask the Ss some questions.
    Tell the Ss: you see, you’re growing older and taller. You’re growing up.
    2. Talk about the question
    Encourage them to say the words or phrases as many as possible. e.g.
    support the family, wash clothes, wash dishes, sweep the floor, cook.
    Step 2 Presentation
    1. Discuss the questions to do a survey.
    At last, tell the Ss: Growing up is inevitable. We should be ready to face happiness and sadness properly.
    2. Get them to guess whether Eddie wants to grow up or does not want to grow up. Then play the tape. They should listen carefully and confirm their answers and say the reason with Eddie ‘s word. (Growing up is hard!)
    3. Play the tape again. The Ss repeat and answer the questions.
    Tell the Ss: Growing up does not just mean you are taller and heavier. It is more important that you should learn to shoulder the responsibility.
    4. Explain problem the Ss may have.
    Step 3 Practice
    1. The Ss read the dialogue in Comic strip aloud. Pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.
    2. Practise the dialogue in pairs.

    3. Before and after can also be used as prepositions of time. e.g. before 9 a.m., after lunch.

    1. Explain the conjunctions since, till and until in Part B.
    1) Since means from a certain time. The verb in the main clause is often used in the present perfect tense. e.g. He has lived here since he was born.
    2) Till and until both mean up to a certain time. Till is more informal than until.
    e.g. He waited here till/ until Miss Yang came back.
    The boy did not go to bed till/ until his mother came back
    2. Tell the Ss: 延续性动词 + till/ until…: 意思是“做某事一直到…时为止”;not + 终止性动词 + till/ until…: 意思是“直到….才….”。

    3. Since, till and until can also be used as prepositions of time. e.g.

    当主句是下列情况时,when, before, after, till, until, as soon as 等引导的时间状语从句必须用一般现在时。

    Step 1 Lead-in
    Get the Ss to talk about their favourite persons and the reasons.
    Step 2 Presentation
    1. Tell the Ss: In this unit, we’ve learnt about Spud Webb, Yao Ming and Anne Frank. They’ve influenced us more or less. Today we’re going to write about the person who has influenced us most.
    2. Play the tape in Part A. The Ss listen and repeat after the tape.
    3. Get the Ss to answer the questions.
    4. Explain some language points.
    1) My father is in his fifties.
    我爸爸五十多岁。
    in one’s + 数词复数 在某人多少岁时,表示“某人年龄处于某段时间”。
    e.g. in my twenties 在我二十多岁时;in Kate’s forties 在凯特四十多岁时
    in the + 数词复数 在多少年代,表示“在某个年代”。
    e.g. in the seventies 在八十年代
    2) He gave our TV to a family who could not afford one; he cares for the children who have lost their parents.
    两个who引导的句子修饰前面的名词,作名词的定语从句,who是关系代词,指代前面的名词。

    3) To my surprise, he has decided to donate his body for medical research after his death. 让我惊讶的是,他已决定死后捐献遗体供医学研究。
    to one’s surprise 令某人惊奇的是
    1) Who do you like best?
    2) Why do you like him/ her?




    1) Who has influenced the author most?
    2) How old is her father?
    3) What is her father like?
    4) What has her father done since 1990?
    5) What surprised the author?
    6) What does the author realize now?

    5. The whole class read the passage aloud.

    1. Get the Ss to read the sentences in Useful expressions.
    2. Explain them. Solve problems the Ss may have.
    Step 4 Writing
    1. Tell the Ss: Before writing, you should think of who has influenced you most. You can use the five questions in Part B to help you organize your information.
    2. After writing, pick some Ss to read their articles. Correct mistakes they may have..
    Step 5 Homework
    1. Go on writing their articles.
    2. Finish the exercises in《课课练》.
