(2021·河北高三三模)“We can't play tennis because you don't have a net.” I was standing on a suburban street when Eric, the boy next door, said that to me. Two rackets (球拍)in hand, I felt my face burning and anger spread through my 10-year-old body.
“I don't have net? You don't have net. Your father and mother don't have net," I yelled, firing at him with what I thought was a hurt. I just had to make him understand that I had plenty of net. Eric was speechless. He admitted that indeed, he and his family had neither a tennis court nor a net, but he seemed unable to make sense of my reaction to this shortcoming.
As a new arrival to the United States, armed with limited English words, I had thought that “net” meant “manners”。 Eric didn't want to play with me because I lacked good manners. It was only after I stormed home that my brother, who had been in America for a decade, explained where I had gone wrong.
Language barriers are the most common communication barriers. Even when we speak the same language, understanding and being understood can be difficult, not to mention communicating in a foreign language. And confusion and amusement follows-a phenomenon that is common in sitcom(情景喜剧). For example, in a 1970s British sitcom, a foreign student says “squeeze (捏) me”, instead of “excuse me”, to his young principal.
That's the thing with languages. Though the languages are technically the same, the meanings, implications and interpretations of words are different. No two people really speak the same one. But in order to be understood, we should be willing to use more words and expressions and have the patience to find out more about what is happening to get a whole picture of the situation.
4.Why was the author angry?
A. Eric refused to lend him a bat.
B. He thought Eric was rude to him.
C. Eric laughed at his limited English.
D. He had to play tennis without a net.
5. What made the author fail to understand Eric properly?
A. His bad manners.
B. His poor background.
C. His limited vocabulary.
D. His violent character.
6.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “stormed” in Paragraph 3?
A. Went angrily.
B. Left hurriedly.
C. Attacked suddenly.
D. Disappeared completely.
7. What does the author think of language barriers?
A. They are worsened by sitcoms.
B. They contribute to cultural differences.
C. They can be overcome by sending and receiving ideas.
D. They exist even between speakers of the same language.
答案:

7.D [细节理解题。根据第四段第二句“Even when we speak the same language, understanding and being understood can be difficult, not to mention communicating in a foreign language.(即使我们说的是同一种语言,理解和被理解也会很困难,更不用说用外语交流了。)”可知,作者认为语言障碍甚至存在于使用同一种语言的人之间。故选D.]

They can help you out in just about every area of your life, whether it's keeping fit, communicating with friends, or even learning a language. 1 Here's what you should think about before downloading an app for language learning.
●Learn from diverse sources (not just apps)
Any seasoned language learner will tell you that the beauty of mastering a foreign language is the world which it opens up to you. This is a world of diverse sources(来源) of information, from newspapers and books to TV, radio, music and even real people. Would you limit yourself to one medium in your native language? 2
●Establish your purpose and plan your habits
Do you want to be fluent in weeks or are you in it for the brain training? The good apps are designed to help you fit your studies around your timetable. 3 These apps encourage habit building, because the successful formation of a habit ensures your safe and regular return.
●Make it social

If I may speak sincerely, the combination of app, language school, Jim, evenings out, and a choice book or two proved extremely effective. 5

B. Remember that an app is just a tool.

D.I encourage you to use apps as often as you can.

(2022·湖南省五市十校教研教改共同体高三第二次大联考)Science can help you improve your study methods. For more than 100 years psychologists have done research on which study habits work best. 1 .Here are 4 tips to improve your study habits.
Space out your studying
Nate Kornell, a psychologist at Williams College, thinks it's a good idea to study the day before a big test. 2 ,Instead, space out those study sessions. Kornell compares our memory to water in a bucket that has a small leak. Try to refill the bucket while it's still full, and you can't add much more water. Allow time between study sessions, and some of the material may drip out of your memory. But then you'll be able to relearn it and learn more in your next study session.
Practice, practice, practice!
Musicians practice their instruments, Athletes practice sports skills. 3 .“If you want to be able to remember information, the best thing you can do is practice," says Katherine Rawson. She's a psychologist at Kent State University in Ohio. In one 2013 study, students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final test, they scored more than a full letter grade better, on average, than students who studied the way they normally had.
Test yourself
Nebel's preferred study habit is one of the best way. Before big tests, Nebel's mom quizzed her on the material. “Now I know that was retrieval (检索)practice," she says. As Nebel got older, she quizzed herself.“ 4 ,” Nebel suggests. “Put questions on one side and the answers on the other side and try to quiz yourself the way the teacher asks questions,” she adds.
Dig deeper
It's hard to remember a string of facts and figures if you don't push further. Ask why things are a certain way. How did they come about? Why do they matter? Psychologists call this elaboration. It's taking class material and asking a lot of how and why questions about it. This helps you combine new information with other things you know. And it creates a bigger network in your brain of things that relate to one another, she says. 5
A. The same should go for learning
B. Some tips help for almost every subject
C. Of course, nothing can replace studying with your mother
D. Some experts hold that studying late at night can be really useful
E. That larger network makes it easier to learn and remember things
F. Create a pack of flash cards every time you learn new information
