Despite usually being associated with the Chinese, the Lunar New Year is also celebrated in other countries. Here are several places in America to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
    New York City
New York City, which has one of the largest populations of ethnic(少数民族)Chinese people outside of Asia, is a great place to experience the Lunar New Year. There are around 10 different Chinatowns in New York City. Visitors will find parades, performances and foods in most of these areas but some of the festival characteristics are unique to the particular district.
    San Francisco
San Francisco's lunar New Year celebrations are the longest runnings in America. They date back to the 1860s, during the “Gold Rush” period. Today, numerous events take place around the Bay Area, but the headline is the massive Chinese New Year Parade that draws as many as 1 million viewers.
    Washington DC
Washington DC has a historic Chinatown. There is a parade here with floats, firecrackers, dancers and music. The Smithsonian American Art Museum can host hands on arts and crafts events that feature performers invited from China. The Kennedy Center stages themed performances, including folk music and symphonies from China.
    Chicago
Despite low temperatures in January and February, Chicago celebrates the Lunar New Year in a big way. There are two parades, usually held on different days of the same weekend. One is in the city's traditional China-town on the South Side, and the other takes place on Argyle Street. Asian culture is on full display during these parades, and other Chicago communities also take part.
1.Which city has the longest history of celebrating the Lunar New Year?
    A. New York City.
    B. San Francisco.
    C. Washington DC.
    D. Chicago.
2.What can the Smithsonian American Art Museum do on the Lunar New Year?
    A. Serve Chinese food.
    B. Show Chinese dancers.
    C. Play Chinese court music.
    D. Invite Chinese art performers.
    3. What common activity is held in the listed cities on the Lunar New Year?
    A. Festival parades.
    B. English concerts.
    C. The American culture weekend.
    D. The American-style art exhibitions.
根据第三段中的“San Francisco's lunar New Year celebrations are the longest runnings in America.(旧金山的农历新年庆祝活动在美国是最久远的。)”
根据第四段中的“The Smithsonian American Art Museum can host hands on arts and crafts events that feature performers invited from China.(史密森尼美国艺术博物馆可以举办邀请中国演员参加的手工艺术活动。)”
根据 New York City 中的“Visitors will find parades...to the particular district.(游客们可以在大多数这些地区看到游行、表演和食物,但有些节日特色是该地区独有的。)”San Francisco 中的“Today, numerous events take place ... as many as 1 million viewers.(今天,在旧金山湾区有许多活动,但头条新闻是吸引了多达100万观众的大型春节游行。)”、Washington DC中的“There is a parade here with floats, firecrackers, dancers and music.(这里有花车、鞭炮、舞蹈和音乐的游行。)”和Chicago 中的“Asian culture is on full display during these parades, and other Chicago communities also take part.(亚洲文化在这些游行中得到充分展示,芝加哥的其他社区也参与其中。)” 故选A.]

(2021·北京高考)Hundreds of scientists, writers and academics sounded a warning to humanity in an open letter published last December: Policymakers and the rest of us must engage openly with the risk of global collapse. Researchers in many areas have projected the widespread collapse as “a credible scenario(情景)this century”。
A survey of scientists found that extreme weather events, food insecurity, and freshwater shortages might create global collapse. Of course, if you are a non-human species, collapse is well underway.
The call for public engagement with the unthinkable is especially germane in this moment of still-uncontrolled pandemic and economic crises in the world's most technologically advanced nations. Not very long ago, it was also unthinkable that a virus would shut down nations and that safety nets would be proven so disastrously lacking in flexibility.
The international scholars' warning letter doesn't say exactly what collapse will look like or when it might happen. Collapseology, the study of collapse, is more concerned with identifying trends and with them the dangers of everyday civilization. Among the signatories (签署者) of the warning was Bob Johnson, the originator of the “ecological footprint” concept, which measures the total amount of environmental input needed to maintain a given lifestyle. With the current footprint of humanity,“ it seems that global collapse is certain to happen in some form, possibly within a decade, certainly within this century," Johnson said in an email.
“Only if we discuss the consequences of our biophysical limits," the December warning letter says," can we have the hope to reduce their speed, severity and harm", And yet messengers of the coming disturbance are likely to be ignored. We all want to hope things will turn out fine. As a poet wrote,
Man is a victim of dope(麻醉品)
In the incurable form of hope.
The hundreds of scholars who signed the letter are intent(执着)on quieting hope that ignores preparedness. “Let's look directly into the issue of collapse," they say, “and deal with the terrible possibilities of what we see there to make the best of a troubling future.”
4.What does the underlined word “germane" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A. Scientific.
    B. Credible.
    C. Original.
    D. Relevant.
    5. As for the public awareness of global collapse, the author is_________.
    A. worried
    B. puzzled
    C. surprised
    D. scared
    6. What can we learn from this passage?
    A. The signatories may change the biophysical limits.
    B. The author agrees with the message of the poem.
    C. The issue of collapse is being prioritized.
    D. The global collapse is well underway.
根据第五段中的“yet messengers of the coming disturbance are likely to be ignored. We all want to hope things will turn out fine(然而未来崩溃的先行信号很可能被忽略,我们都希望事情在未来会变好)”和最后一段中的“'Let's look directly into the issue of collapse, ' they say, 'and deal with the terrible possibilities of what we see there to make the best of a troubling future.'(他们说,让我们直面全球崩塌的议题,真正去解决我们看到的可能的糟糕情况,以便使未来没那么糟。')” 故选A.]
原文诗歌“Man is a victim of dope(麻醉品);In the incurable form of hope.(人类是麻醉品的受害者;沉迷于无可救药的幻想中。)” 根据诗歌的上文“yet messengers of the coming disturbance are likely to be ignored. We all want to hope things will turn out fine”和下文“quieting hope that ignores preparedness(掐灭不做准备的空有幻想)”可推知,上下文一脉相承,表达相同的观点,即作者对于这首诗表达的信息是赞同的。

    You've got mail ... and it's a postcard
Paulo Magalhaes, a 34-year-old Portuguese computer engineer, loves to open his mailbox and find a brightly colored picture of Rome's Colosseum. Or Africa's Victoria Falls. Or China's Great Wall. 1
"I often send postcards to family and friends." he says to China Daily," but you can imagine that after a while, you never receive as many as you send, and you realize that not everyone is into it. 2 " Seeking other like-minded souls, however, Paulo started looking in a somewhat unlikely place: online. Many would say the Internet is a place for people who have given up on the traditional postal service, but Paulo's hunch(直觉) paid off.
Today his hobby has developed into the website postcrossing. com, a social network that has grown to 575,217 registered users in 214 countries and regions since he started it 10 years ago. 3 Running the website has almost turned into a full-time job.
Language is certainly a barrier for many people. For postcrossing to work worldwide, a common communication language is needed so that everyone can understand each other. As cool as it may be to receive a postcard written in Chinese, the concept doesn't work if one doesn't understand it. 4 So a common language is required and in postcrossing that's English since it's widely spoken.
“Many people in China have limited exposure to English. 5 That said, we know of many postcrossing members, including Chinese, who have actually improved their English skills through their use of postcrossing," Paulo says.
    A. And that's totally fine.
    B. That makes it extra hard to learn and practice it.
    C. He likes to think of sending postcards as a family-friendly hobby.
    D. Many love to make a connection with someone from across the world.
    E. On August 5, the number of postcards exchanged by members topped 31 million.
    F. Similarly, if you speak only Chinese, receiving a card in Swedish takes part of the fun away.
    G. In short, he loves postcards, and the excitement of getting a hand-writ-ten note from someone far away.
    1.__________ 2. __________ 3. __________ 4. __________ 5. __________
文章主要介绍了 Paulo Magalhaes(保罗·麦哲伦)创建postcrossing.com的过程及其现状。
1.G[上文“Paulo Magalhaes, a 34-year-old Portuguese computer engineer, loves to open his mailbox and find a brightly colored picture of Rome's Colosseum. Or Africa's Victoria Falls. Or China's Great Wall.(34岁的葡萄牙电脑工程师 Paulo Magalhaes 喜欢打开他的邮箱,然后发现一个色彩鲜艳的罗马斗牛场图片。或者非洲的维多利亚瀑布。或者是中国的长城。)”介绍了Paulo喜欢明信片的个人爱好。下文“and you realize that not everyone is into it”说明他身边缺少与他志趣相投的人。
2.A [上文“'I often send postcards to family and friends.' he says to China Daily, 'but you can imagine that after a while, you never receive as many as you send, and you realize that not everyone is into it.'(“我经常给家人和朋友寄明信片,'他说,但你可以想象,过一段时间,你收到的明信片不会像你寄的那么多,而且你意识到并不是每个人都喜欢这样。')”说明Paulo意识到身边的亲人和朋友不是都和他有相同的爱好,因此他也很坦然接受这个事实,因此A项(那完全没问题。)符合语境。故选A.]
3.E [上文“Today his hobby has developed into the website postcrossing.com, a social network that has grown to 575,217 registered users in 214 countries and regions since he started it 10 years ago.(如今,他的这个爱好已经发展成了postorossing.com 这个社交网站。自从10年前他创建这个网站以来,已经有来自214个国家和地区的575,217名注册用户。)”是在介绍目前网站的发展状况,E项(8月5日,会员互赠的明信片数量达到3,100万张。)是在介绍该网站相关的数据。故选E.]
4.F [上文“As cool as it may be to receive a postcard written in Chinese, the concept doesn't work if one doesn't understand it.(收到一张用中文写的明信片可能很酷,但如果你不理解它,这个概念就行不通。)”
5.B[上文“Many people in China have limited exposure to English.(许多中国人很少能接触到英语。)” 下文“who have actually improved their English skills through their use of postcrossing(他们实际上通过使用明信片来提高他们的英语技能)”说明写明信片成为一种练习英语的渠道。

For tech-crazy travellers, below are four most advanced tech SILICON VALLEY destinations to visit.
    Silicon Valley, America
Home to many of the world's largest high-tech corporations. In Apple Park, the Visitor Center is the only part tourists are permitted to visit. There are four main areas: an Apple Store featuring Apple-branded goods not sold at regular Apple stores, a cafe, an exhibition space, and a roof terrace overlooking the campus.
In the Googleplex, there is no Google campus tour. The only way a member of the public can tour the inside of campus buildings is by an employee-so if you happen to know one, ask him or her to show you around.
    Zhongguancun, China
A technology center in Haidian District.
Known as “Electronics Avenue" from the early 1980s on, due to its information technology markets, in 1999, it became the “Zhongguancun Science & Technology Zone", with seven parks, where over 12,000 hightech enterprises were operating according to the 2004 Beijing Statistical Yearbook.
Many world-famous technology companies built their Chinese headquarters and research centers in Zhongguancun Technology Park, such as Google, Intel.

根据 Bangalore, India部分中的“Around 47% of the 265 biotechnology companies in India are located in Bangalore.(印度265家生物技术公司中约47%位于班加罗尔。)”
根据第一段“For tech-crazy travellers, below are four most advanced tech destinations to visit.(对于痴迷科技的旅行者来说,以下是四个最先进的科技目的地。)”

    B
(2021·浙江高三月考)Jeff Bezos has a rule at Amazon, or perhaps more appropriate a philosophy. If a team cannot be fed by two pizzas then that team is too large. The reasoning is quite straightforward and basic. More people means more communication, more bureaucracy, more chaos, and more of pretty much everything that slows things down, hence why large organizations are oftentimes considered as being so inefficient.
In 2013 Gallup released a report called The State of The American Workplace, in which they found that smaller companies had more engaged employees. In faet,42% of employees working at companies of 10 or fewer were engaged at work versus only 30% of employees at large companies.
Most people are not familiar with the Ringelmann Effect which is the tendency for individual members to become less productive as the size of a group increases. This concept was named after Maximilien Ringelmann, a
French professor of agricultural engineering who passed away in 1931. In one of his experiments he asked volunteers to perform a very simple task, to pull on a rope. He found that when only one person is pulling on the rope they give 100% of their effort; however, as more people are added the individual effort goes down.
This experiment was recreated in the 1970's by Alan Ingham who came up with the concept of “social loafing” which helps us understand why the individual effort decreases as the team size increases. So why does this happen? Because it becomes harder to extract the individual contributions and performance of each person.
Organizations should really think about what their team structures look like and create and follow similar “two pizza rules". It's no coincidence that smaller organizations are oftentimes more nimble while large organizations look like they are stuck in the mud.
4.What is the author's purpose of mentioning "two pizza rules" in Paragraph 1?
    A. To make a comment.
    B. To introduce the topic.
    C. To provide an example.
    D. To analyze a phenomenon.
5.What is special about the Alan Ingham's experiment?
    A. It repeated the Ringelmann Effect experiment.
    B. It was based on a simple task of pulling a rope.
    C. It aimed to explore the reason behind the phenomenon.
    D. It revealed the link between team size and individual effort.
    6. Which of the following words can replace the underlined word “nimble” in the last paragraph?
    A. Balanced.
    B. Complicated.
    C. Simple.
    D. Flexible.
7.What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. What Makes a Team More Productive?
    B. Why Are Smaller Teams Better Than Larger Ones?
    C. How Can Two Pizzas Be Shared by One Team?
    D. Which Is More Important: Individual Effort Or Team Size?
根据第一段第二句“If a team cannot be fed by two pizzas then that team is too large.(如果一个队两块披萨都不能喂饱,那么那个队就太大了。)”和最后一句“More people means...oftentimes considered as being so inefficient.(更多的人意味着更多的沟通,更多的官僚主义,更多的混乱,以及更多减缓事情发展速
根据倒数第二段第一句中的“This experiment was recreated in the 1970's by Alan Ingham"和第二句“So why does this happen?”可知,Alan Ingham(艾伦·英厄姆)的实验不是对 the Ringelmann Effect(林格曼效应)实验的简单重复,而是进一步探究了背后的原因。故选
6.D [词义猜测题。根据最后一段第二句中的“while large organizations look like they are stuck in the mud”可推测,较小的组织相比大组织更为灵活高效,因此画线词nimble与D项(灵活的)意思相近。
根据第一段段尾“hence why large organizations are oftentimes considered as being so inefficient”和最后一段最后一句"It's no coincidence that smaller organizations are oftentimes more nimble while large organizations look like they are stuck in the mud.”可知,本文比较了大型组织和小型组织的效率并探究了其背后的原因。因此B项(为什么小的团队比大的更好?)为最佳标题。故选B.]

(2022·广东省高三六校第三次联考)The brain drain is characterized as the emigration of highly skilled laborers to other countries. 1 In the EU countries such as Poland, Italy and Portugal are especially affected by the brain drain, while other countries such as Sweden, Ireland and Denmark notice the opposite effect, namely brain gain.
There are both push and pull factors affecting the brain drain. Pull factors include higher employment rates, higher salary and an increase in quality of life, while the push factors are high youth unemployment and high enterprise death rates.
2 These effects include a reduction in human capital, limited capacity to innovate, reduced economic growth, and a higher cost of public goods. There are positive side effects as well, such as return migration and incentives(动机) for investment in education.
This calls for a territorial approach. The European Committee of the Regions, therefore, suggests that local and regional authorities develop instruments and promote measures to increase the attractiveness of the regions facing the brain drain. They should also set up local alliances(联盟). 3
The brain drain's negative effects have been key concerns of the EU. As current economic and social differences between European regions are the main cause of the brain drain, the need for a strong association between Europe's cohesion(凝聚) policies has been stressed. 4 This will also help in adopting the measures expected to fight against the problem of the brain drain including investing in education and employment in European regions.
A study launched by an organization of the EU analyzed several programs across Europe. 5 These are steps like understanding the need for skilled workers, creating mechanisms for cooperation between governments, corporations and universities, removing structural barriers, etc.
    A. It is a problem faced by many parts of Europe.
    B. These can help in drafting and carrying out local policies.
    C. The brain drain can have a negative impact on the sending region.
    D. Brain waste happens in the meantime in most European countries.
    E. Two of the key objectives are also necessary to reduce the brain drain.
    F. It came up with a list of best practices for fighting against the brain drain.

2.C [根据下文“These effects include a reduction in human capital, limited capacity to innovate, reduced economic growth, and a higher cost of public goods. (这些影响包括人力资本减少、创新能力有限、经济增长下降以及公共产品成本上升。)”可知,此处分析人才流失对于人才输送地区的影响。C项(人才外流可能对输出地区产生负面影响。)引出下文。故选C.]
    3.B [根据上文“They should also set up local alliances(联盟).(他们还应该建立地方联盟。)”
4.G[根据上文“As current economic and social differences between European regions are the main cause of the brain drain, the need for a strong association between Europe's cohesion(凝聚)policies has been stressed.(欧洲地区之间的经济和社会差异是人才外流的主要原因,因此强调了欧洲凝聚力政策之间的紧密联系。)”
5.F [根据上文“A study launched by an organization of the EU analyzed several programs across Europe.(欧盟一个组织发起的一项研究分析了欧洲的几个项目。)”
