(2022·湖南省长沙市雅礼中学高三检测)One rainy afternoon, I was on a crosstown bus when a young woman jumped on. She had a child with her who must have been about 3 or 4 years old.
The bus was full, bumpy, and it soon got noisy as her kid began crying because he couldn't sit next to his mother. There were a couple of open seats, but they weren't together. She was flustered and looked embarrassed.
Then another woman, a little older, stood up and moved so that the mother and child could sit together. The mom smiled as a thank-you. And then three words came out of the older woman's mouth that elevated the entire energy of that bus ride: “I've been there.”
Simple, undramatic and honest. In that moment, it seemed to unite people. Why? Because almost all experiences are shared human experiences. We forget that, as we forge(前进)through life. We focused on our own troubles and needs-which are actually less unique than we think. How can these three words create more connection in your life? Ask yourself: “Where am I holding back?”
One thing I know for sure is this; Healing(治愈)others helps heal yourself. I noticed this recently with my friend, Tracy, who took a new friend who had suffered a miscarriage(流产) under her wing. Tracy had three of them before having her daughter two years ago. Our minds need a doctor to explain the medical side of things. But our souls need human connection to help us along. No one can do that better than someone who has been exactly where you are.
Can the essence(精髓) of these three words help you make a small difference right now? It can be as simple as volunteering your seat, sharing some helpful advice or even lightening the mood with a joke when you notice that someone's uncomfortable-because we're all in this together.

A. angry

B. The woman got to her destination and was ready to get off the bus.
C. The woman once had the similar experience with that mother.
D. The woman took the exact seat that the boy was on just now.
3. Which of the following statements is mentioned according to the passage?
A. Everyone has his or her own unique problem that is difficult to solve.
B. Doctors can help us get through when we have mental or physical problems.
C. The author's friend Tracy felt better after she was comforted by her new friend.
D. One can indeed make a difference to those in need of help by doing simple things.
4.The passage is intended to___________.

(2022·江苏省南京市高三学情调研)I wonder if I'm getting to be transparent. I can see waiters, but they can't see me. Ticket agents look right through me at the person next in line. I have the same feeling when I try to catch the attention of salesgirls, taxi drivers and my wife.
I'm substantial enough, maybe a little too substantial in places. And there's an undeniable air of authority about the way I stride(阔步) into a restaurant, pull my neck tie into place and signal the headwaiter. The headwaiter's glance sweeps my way, then comes to rest on a section of flowered wallpaper directly behind me. He considers it for a moment, and looks away. Five minutes later I manage to catch his eye. He strides in my direction, takes a menu from the pile at my elbow (肘) and walks back across the room. Another 10 minutes pass, and our eyes meet head-on. His face lights and he hurries toward me, saying to the couple right beside me: “This way, please.”
Maybe I could arouse interest by pulling off the tablecloth. Maybe the best plan is to get up and start out of the restaurant without paying-a trick which never fails to earn me the whole attention of every waiter in the place.
On the other hand, people have no trouble making me out when I don't want them to. I never can avoid a friend who's been having a little bad luck lately and who would like to borrow some money. I'll spot him half a block away ,and cross the street to the other side. He crosses at the same time. Is top and stare at a store window until he has passed, but his eye encounters mine in the reflection of the glass. I lend him the money, but from the moment on he can't see me.
5. What can we learn about the author from Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A. He cares about his appearance.
B. He feels ignored by the waiter.
C. He usually flees without paying.
D. He often puts on an air of pride.
6. In his opinion, the author can be seen when__________.
A. expected to offer help
B. enjoying others' service
C. caught borrowing money
D. suffering a little bad luck
7.What's the tone of the passage?
A. Serious.
B. Humorous.
C. Cautious.
D. Anxious.
8. Which of the following is a suitable title for the passage?
A. I'm a nobody
B. There is nowhere to hide
C. Am I a reliable friend?
D. Has anybody seen me lately?

Resolving(解决)Conflict in Friendships
Conflict is surely a common problem in life and friendships. 1 That's because there isn't enough depth to guarantee all the trouble it takes to smooth over the disagreement. Unfortunately, even when the friendship reaches a deeper level, conflict continues to happen and can break apart a relationship. Here are some resolutions.
Resolve it the day it happens. One rule my parents follow in their marriage is that they don't go to bed angry with each other. They always attempt to resolve things the day it happens so that in the morning, it's a fresh start with no past grudge(怨恨)。 I've found I need a short cool down period so that I don't act in anger. 2 Whatever you do, don't let things ride for too long.
3 Sometimes if you sit down and talk things over, you begin to see where the other person is coming from. Realize that everyone has been created differently with various talents, abilities, and personality traits. For example, you might be a leader while your friend is more of a follower. You may be frustrated with him or her for not being very decisive. Yet it is important to understand that each person is unique and needs to be appreciated.
Initiate resolution. 4 Even when you think the other person is wrong, it's not a bad thing to say “I'm sorry if I offended you in that way.” If you're honest and genuine in delivering your words, there's a good chance your friend will respond positively.
Most importantly, be loving in what you do. Try to focus on peacefully resolving the disagreement. It is not a most pleasant task to resolve conflict in any friendship. 5
A. Don't expect too much.
B. Try to see the other person's perspective.
C. Be the first person in a fight to say sorry for your part.
D. Many shallow friendships end up being ruined after an argument.
E. To say sorry bravely when a conflict breaks out is a better resolution.
F. However, it is worth the efforts because it results in a deeper friendship.
G. For some, counting to one hundred before saying anything may be an option.
1. __________ 2. __________ 3. __________ 4. __________ 5. __________

(2021·新高考I卷)Popularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional(情感的)intelligence. Many people now misunderstand emotional intelligence as almost everything desirable in a person's makeup that cannot be measured by an IQ test, such as character, motivation, confidence, mental stability, optimism and “people skills.” Research has shown that emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities, but most of them move far beyond skill-based emotional intelligence..
We prefer to describe emotional intelligence as a specific set of skills that can be used for either good or bad purposes. The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be used by a doctor to find how best to help, her patients, while a cheater might use it to control potential victims. Being emotionally intelligent does not necessarily make one a moral person.
Although popular beliefs regarding emotional intelligence run far ahead of what research can reasonably support, the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. The most positive aspect of this
popularization is a new and much needed emphasis(重视) on emotion by employers, educators and others interested in promoting social wellbeing. The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers reevaluate the functionality of emotions and how they serve people adaptively in everyday life.
Although the continuing popular appeal of emotional intelligence is desirable, we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives(视角)from which to study how people manage their lives. Emotional intelligence, with its focus on both head and heart, may serve to point us in the right direction.
1. What is a common misunderstanding of emotional intelligence?
A. It can be measured by an IQ test.
B. It helps to exercise a person's mind.
C. It includes a set of emotional skills.
D. It refers to a person's positive qualities.
2.Why does the author mention “doctor" and “cheater" in paragraph 2?
A. To explain a rule.
B. To clarify a concept.
C. To present a fact.
D. To make a prediction.
3.What is the author's attitude to the popularization of emotional intelligence?
A. Favorable.
B. Intolerant.
C. Doubtful.
D. Unclear.
4.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning emotional intelligence?
A. Its appeal to the public.
B. Expectations for future studies.
C. Its practical application.

Kids compared us to
other kids.
Those comparisons created either a sense of humiliation or a sense of pride. Either way, it has become second-nature. Everything we'd done has been followed by looking around and seeking validation(确认感)。
Midway through my psychology PhD program at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, I felt that I lacked whatever magical ability is required to finish and publish a project. It seemed as though other graduate students were authoring several papers in the time it took me to complete a single experiment. I worked as hard as I could, but my progress seemed to be incremental(渐进式增加的)compared with theirs. When I shared these concerns with my adviser, she had a different take on the situation.“You're not doing anything wrong," she assured me, “you're just pursuing a different kind of research.”
Comparing yourself to others is not necessarily a bad thing.
When you catch yourself comparing yourself to others, get curious about the feeling that is being triggered(引起), Is it jealousy? Is it obsession? Is it admiration? Is it love? Is it inspiration? Your triggered feelings will give you a clue as to what is going on within you.
Most likely, you are jealous because you wish you had what it takes to achieve what the other has achieved or to have what they have. Get curious and figure out why you still don't have it and what would it take to get there. It is never a good idea to make yourself wrong for comparing yourself to others or to make yourself wrong for not getting where you wish to be.
But if all this comparison mounts to is bitter jealousy, then your problem is bigger than a simple comparison. Always bear in mind than your only competition is the one in the mirror and-believe me-it is the toughest competition of all.
5. Which of the following words has the closest meaning to the underlined word “humiliation” in Paragraph 2?
A. Virtue.
B. Shame.
C. Excitement.
D. Tiredness.
6. What can be concluded from the adviser's words in Paragraph 3?
A. The author made great progress.
B. The author worried unnecessarily.
C. The author had magical power.
D. The author did something wrong.
7.What will uncover your inner thoughts when you compare yourself with others according to the passage?
A. Progress made with great effort.
B. Clues found through research.
C. Comparisons triggered by curiosity.
D. Emotions activated by comparisons,
8.What does this passage mainly talk about?
A. How to view comparisons in a reasonable way.
B. How to seek validation when compared with others.
C. How to show second-nature in comparison with others.
D. How to get rid of feelings caused by comparisons.

How to Practice Nonviolent Communication
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is an idealized style of communication without the use of guilt, humiliation (耻辱),shame, blame, or threats. 1 Here is how to do it well.
2 NVC uses a type of emotional intimacy (亲密) that not all people are comfortable with all the time, and they have the right to set boundaries. If someone is not open to expressing their feelings, do not push them into doing so.
Listen closely to what the other person says. Don't assume that you know how they feel or what is best for them. 3 Recognize their feelings, slow down to ensure they feel heard, and make it clear that you care. Put the focus on what they are telling you, not on what you have decided they “actually” mean.
Decide upon the solution together, if possible. When you do something together, you want it to be because you both voluntarily agree to it. You hope it is a way of fulfilling your own genuine needs and desires, not out of guilt or pressure. Sometimes you can find an action that meets both your needs. 4
Take a break if one or both parties are too stressed to handle the conversation. If you're getting too upset to speak thoughtfully and clearly, or the other person is unwilling to talk openly, stop. 5 If conversations consistently end badly with someone, take a close look at the situation, because there may be a deeper problem.
A. Instead, let them express their thoughts and feelings.
B. Encourage both sides to express their true feelings freely.
C. Make sure a person is open to nonviolent communication.
D. It is useful for resolving conflicts and connecting with others.
E. If not, just try to find a solution on your own to satisfy your needs.
F. Sometimes you just have to go your separate ways in a friendly way.
G. You can have it at a better time, when both parties are willing and able.
