Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history.
Animals have been killed for their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way.Thousands of kinds of animals have disappeared from the earth forever.Hundreds more are on the danger list today.About 170 kinds in the United States alone are considered in danger.
Why should people care?Because we need animals. And because once they are gone, there will never be any more.
Animals are more than beautiful or interesting or a source of food.Every animal has its place in the balance of nature.Destroying one kind of animal can create many problems.
For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks (鹰),the farmers’ stores of corn and grain were destroyed by mice. Why?Because hawks eat mice. With no hawks to keep down their numbers, the mice multiplied quickly.
Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals. Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws protecting animals in danger.
Quite a few countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animal or plant on the danger list.Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing.

根据第四段中的“Animals are more than...in the balance of nature.”
故选A。
根据第三段中的“Because we need animals.” 根据第四段中的“Every animal has its place in the balance of nature.” 根据第三段中的“And because once they are gone, there will never be any more.”

(Text 2)
W:I am so stressed out!I haven’t studied for the huge test we will have tomorrow. Now I have to stay up and study all night.
M:Didn’t you hear?Mr.Green canceled it.He said we have enough homework due as it is.
(Text 3)
M:You know,my daughter was once a world champion.I’m so proud of her.
W:Oh,I heard that.
M:She began to swim in 1999,and then she joined a swimming club in 2005.
W:Yes,I remember.She set a new world record in 2009.
(Text 4)
M:What floor would you like me to press?
W:Thirty-six,please.
M:We’re on the same floor.I’m in the Williams Company.
W:Me,too.I’m new here.
(Text 5)
W:How on earth did you move that heavy desk to the room upstairs?
M:My classmates happened to visit me and helped me carry it.
W:Oh,I know then.
第二节
(Text 6)
M:Darling,I’m back.
W:How did you get along with your work today, honey!
M:I’m not the least tired and I’m really happy with my work for I successfully dealt with some difficult matters.I enjoy the sense of achievement in it so much.
W:Tell me about it.
M:In the morning,I managed to settle a deal with a foreign company. And in the afternoon,I successfully handled a complaint from one of my key customers.
(Text 7)
M:I guess you must like to dance.Would you like to dance with me?

M:Thank you for saying so.Do you like modern dance?I don’t care for it.
W:Neither do I.Oh,it’s getting late.I’m afraid I’ve got to go.Thank you for inviting me.I enjoyed the dinner very much.
(Text 8)
W:I almost saw a bear once.Sort of.
M:What do you mean?
W:I was camping with my family. And one night,my brother and I were in our tent, just going to sleep, and suddenly we heard a noise outside. There was something walking around the campsite, knocking things over.
M:Oh,no!
W:So my brother went,“It’s a bear. It’s looking for food,”and then he said,“I’m glad we don’t have any food in here.”But then I had to tell my brother that actually I had some candy bars with me.So then we were both terrified. And we decided to look outside the tent and run if we saw a bear!
M:So?What was it?
W:Something looking for food, all right, but it was my dad!
(Text 9)

M:I can’t wait!It sounds like we’re going to have a great time.How much money should I bring?
W:You’ll just need roughly 10 dollars for food and gas money. My friend is driving,so we usually all give a few dollars for gas money.
(Text 10)
M:Right, the next part of my talk is about the banks in Britain and their student services.I hope you can listen to me carefully. Then you can choose a suitable bank for yourself.
First of all,the Natwest account. This account charges you nothing if you’re overdrawn. As well as this, you get a credit card and the interest rate for that is about 18.9% per year. Also, the bank offers discounts on train fares in Britain.
The second account is with Barclays.Like the Natwest account, this account charges you nothing if you’re overdrawn either. In addition, this bank offers a credit card with an interest rate of 19.9%.With this account, students also get free mobile phone insurance.I imagine that’s popular with many of you.But I’m afraid there
aren’t many branches in Britain.
Right, now the HSBC account. This account charges you nothing if you’re overdrawn either. In addition, there’s a credit card and the interest rate is 18.8%.As well as this, students get a free driving lesson.
So,that’s an overview of the three main banks and their student accounts. Are there any questions?

When the dog named Judy spotted the first sheep in her life, she did what comes naturally. The four-year-old dog set off racing after the sheep across several fields and, being a city animal, lost both her sheep and her sense of direction. Then she ran along the edge of a cliff(悬崖) and fell 100 feet, bouncing off a rock into the sea.
Her owner Mike Holden panicked and called the coastguard of Cornwall, who turned up in seconds.Six volunteers slid down the cliff with the help of a rope but gave up all hope of finding her alive after a 90-minute search.
Three days later,a hurricane hit the coast near Cornwall.Mr.Holden returned home from his holiday upset and convinced his pet was dead.He comforted himself with the thought she had died in the most beautiful part of the country.
For the next two weeks, the Holdens were heartbroken. Then, one day,the phone rang and Steve Tregear, the coastguard of Cornwall, asked Holder if he would like his dog back.
A birdwatcher, armed with a telescope, found the pet sitting desperately on a rock. While he sounded the alarm,a student from Leeds climbed down the cliff to collect Judy.
The dog had initially been knocked unconscious(失去知觉的)but had survived by drinking water from a fresh scream at the base of the cliff. She may have fed on the body of a sheep which had also fallen over the edge.“The dog was very thin and hungry,” Steve Tregear said.“It was a very lucky dog.She survived because of a plentiful supply of fresh water,” he added. It was,as Mr.Holden admitted,“a minor miracle(奇迹)”.

Help Hermit Crabs
Hermit crabs are nature’s recyclers. They eat waste and help keep oceans and shores clean.Unlike other crabs, the hermit crab has a thin outer shell over its soft tail. This makes the hermit crab easy prey for hungry predators(天敌).Hermit crabs stay safe by living in old seashells.A hermit crab is picky(挑剔的);it tries on many shells until it finds one that fits just right. In recent years, however, many hermit crabs have had trouble finding their perfect homes. What is the problems? There are not enough shells to go around!
One reason for the seashell shortage is that ocean water is not as clean as it once was. This has caused chemical changes to sea water. Some sea animals, like snails, are affected by these changes. Now there are fewer snails making shells.People visiting the beach often take shells home as souvenirs(纪念品).This is another problem.Other people even take shells for their own pet hermit crabs! They do not realize that hermit crabs in the wild need those shells, too.
Now people are working to solve this hermit crab housing shortage. They are teaching beach-Boers to leave seashells where they belong—at the seashore! Some people even make fake seashells that they hope the hermit crabs will like. For example,a group called Project Shelter invited people who visited their website to create different designs for hermit crab shells.
These designers had a lot to consider. What kind of material should be used to build seashells? The material must be light enough for the hermit crab to carry, but strong enough to protect the crab from predators. The man-made shells could not contain glue or any other substance(物质)that might harm a hermit crab.Another challenge with building a hermit crab home was the opening to the shell.Too big would mean the crab would not feel safe.Too small would be uncomfortable, and the crab would not want to move in.
The Project Shelter shells are placed in the wild for hermit crabs to find.Lucky hermit crabs can move into these new dream homes.
28.Where can hermit crabs stay safe?
A.In different old seashells.

Have you ever wondered why birds sing?Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all,you probably sing when you are happy.
Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason.Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory.
Do you know what a “territory” is?A territory is an area that an animal, usually the male, claims(声称) as its own.Only he and his family are welcome there. No other families of the same species are welcome.Your house is your territory where only your family and friends are welcome. If a stranger should enter your territory and threaten you,you might shout.Probably this would be enough to frighten him away.
If so,you have actually frightened the stranger away without having to fight him.A bird does the same thing. But he expects an outsider almost any time, especially at the nesting(筑巢) season. So he is screaming all the time, whether he can see an outsider or not.
This screaming is what we call a bird’s song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.

35.How does the writer explain birds’ singing?
A.By telling a bird’s story.
B.By reporting experiment results.

46.C 下文“Midnight’s ears lifted up and she looked at Curfman with an intense stare.Curfman had never seen Midnight make that before”提到这只狗的一连串动作和表情,这些是Tim Curfman平时没有看到的,因此在Tim Curfman看来,Midnight“表现得(acting)”很奇怪。
根据前文“found 87-year-old Noreen lying in the snow”可推断,老人躺在雪地上,因此想要努力地站起来,“struggle to do sth(努力地做某事)”。
根据“If Noreen had been out there for longer”可知,没有这只狗发现老人摔倒了,她可能会处于失去生命的危险中。

58.are being endangered 考查时态和语态。
help sb (to) do sth“帮助某人做某事”。
62.which/that 考查定语从句。

Ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning. My name is Li Hua.I am from Class One,Grade One.Many wild animals are facing the danger of extinction because of human activities.
As is known to us,to protect animals is to protect ourselves,so measures of the following should be taken: pollution standards are made to keep down poisons;killing off certain rare species is prohibited;national parks should be set up as wildlife reserves. As a student,we should also protect animals in our daily life. When we see a stray cat or a stray dog,we’d better give it some food.Whenever we see someone hurting an animal,we shouldn’t hesitate to stop them doing that.Only if we human beings show our love to them can animals be preserved.

In 1989,fresh out of high school,I was faced with a difficult choice of a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan(巴基斯坦),there were limited choices: becoming a doctor or an engineer,or entering the financial world after getting a business degree.I wasn’t interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business.I couldn’t decide.
My uncle suggested that I do a work placement(实习工作)to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that,I could make a decision. It seemed like a good idea.
I was accepted for a month’s placement at a foreign bank in Karachi.I got a feel for how the world of finance worked, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work environment.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience was quite different. The hospital days started early(at 7 am,compared with 9 am at the bank),and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again in the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital had an intense(紧张的)environment, and the studying and training was difficult. It seemed that business was a better choice.
Near the end of my month at the hospital,I was driving home after a very busy night call.In front of me was a public bus, with some boys sitting on the top.As the driver weaved through(穿梭)traffic,I could see the boys shaking from side to side.

One possible version:
Suddenly,a boy fell off the back of the bus.He fell so heavily, lying motionless in the middle of the road. The bus driver wasn’t aware of what was happening and sped away.Driven by a sense of duty,I stopped my car immediately and examined him carefully. With the help of some passers-by,I lifted him into my car and sent him to the hospital.Fortunately, the boy was safe finally.
The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy,all his family got up,with grateful smiles on their faces. The mother held my hands to her face. With tears in her eyes,She said,“My boy,you are an angel!” What a feeling it was,to help save the life of another person! Driving home that evening,I knew what my final decision would be.The short experience of helping the boy said more than two months of placements could do.
