    When I was 8 years old, I decided to run away from home after a quarrel with my mother. With my suitcase packed and some sandwiches in a bag, I started for the front door.

    My mom asked where I was going. “I’m leaving home,” I said.

    “What’s that you’re carrying?” she asked.

    “Some clothes and food,” I replied.

    “If you want to run away, that’s all right,” she said. “But you came into this home without anything and you can leave the same way.”

    I threw my suitcase and sandwiches on the floor and started for the door again.

    “Wait a minute,” Mom said. “You didn’t have any clothes on when you arrived, and I want them back.”

    This indeed infuriated me. I tore my clothes off—shoes, socks, underwear and all—and shouted, “Can I go now?”

    “Yes,” my mom answered, “but once you close that door, don’t expect to come back.”

    I was so angry that I shut the door forcefully and stepped out of my home. Then I noticed down the street two neighboring girls approachingour house. I was so shy that I saw the big spruce(云杉)tree in our yard and jumped under the low-hanging branches. A pile of dried-up brown needles(针状物)were beneath the tree, and I cant ignore the pain those sharp needles caused to my body.

    After I was sure the girls had passed by, I ran to the front door and knocked at it loudly.

    “It’s Billy! Let me in!”

    The voice behind the door answered, “Billy doesn’t live here anymore. He ran away from home.”

    Looking behind me to see if anyone else was coming down the street, I apologised and said, “Mom! I’m sorry. I’m still your son. Let me in!”

    The door opened and Mom’s smiling face appeared. “Did you change your mind about running away?” she asked.

    “What’s for supper?” I smiled back.

    I love training with my husband Chris. We do our own exercises separately, but then we really enjoy spending 30—40 minutes doing something we both like together. I also train with my family—my brother, his wife and our cousins will come to our house  regularly to train together. It’s like family fun time! Typically, a little bit of competition also makes us work out harder.

    Laziness, as you know, is contagious. But so is enthusiasm. If you can get your partner on board, you will be able to encourage each other on those days when the other doesn’t feel like moving. If you set yourself a challenge and add competition to the mix, I promise you that the training will be much more enjoyable. Time will fly by and you’ll want to do it again.

    This is why I wanted to learn Chris’ favourite sport—surfing. Not only would we have more things to do together, but it would be a great challenge for me. In turn, I have introduced Chris to two of my favourite activities: horse riding and motorbiking. Now he also loves them, which means we have even more chances to have fun together. Encouraged by our example, my brother and his wife now train together too. This is what it’s all about at the end of the day: quality time with your partner.

    What if you don’t have a partner? Well, I assume that you are sure to have a friend who would love to train with you. Or, if you have young children, why not train in the backyard with another parent while they are playing? You just need some music. The important thing is to have a plan and to make the time to do it. It will be much more enjoyable than doing it on your own.

    Today’s families are busy. Mom and Dad are both working, the kids are busy with a wide range of activities, and there is little time to enjoy being a family.      2  If its not possible to have them every night, make sure that you eat together as a family at the dinner table at least twice a week. If you need to cut something out of your schedule to achieve this, then do it.

    Talk to your kids, and really listen. Busy parents are often sorry for not listening to their kids. 4  During your family dinners and game nights, let everyone talk and make the others listen. 

    Forgive when necessary. 5  If someone has done something wrong, get it out in the open, and then forgive that person. Teach your children how to do this with each other.
