English learners can imprve their language skills thrugh mvement, says Tamara Jnes. She wrks at the English Language Center at Hward Cmmunity Cllege in Maryland.
S, what is the relatinship between physical mvement and the brain? The idea is that the brain and the bdy are jined tgether. This means that ne affects the ther.
Many peple are familiar with the idea that the brain tells the bdy t mve. And many peple are familiar with the idea that repeating an actin ver and ver again helps yur brain t remember. Hwever, sme research, such as a study by Mrsella and Krauss, suggests that yur bdy might help yur brain t find memries. Specifically, mvements we make with ur bdy, such as hand gestures, may help us t remember and use the crrect wrds.
This idea is part f the reasn why experts n learning strategies, which are ways t imprve the learning prcess, suggest using mvements. One learning apprach, the Cgnitive Academic Language Learning Apprach, r CALLA, calls the use f mvements “Using Yur Kinesthetic(动觉的)Sense”.
