The hospital I worked in during my stay in Swaziland(斯威士兰) sits on top of the Lebombo Mountains. People often have to walk 40 kilometers or more in order to see a doctor.
There are many people who are simply too sick or too poor to get to a hospital. So the home-based care team which is made up of several nurses travels out every morning to meet the health needs of the truly poor.
Before I went out with the team I used to buy potatoes, carrots and apples to give to the people we met. I would also buy a bag of sweets to give to the children. I know we might look different and speak different languages, but most of us—especially the young ones—love sweets!
One day we stopped at one of the 15, 000 orphan-led houses. Inside the hut we found a beautiful little girl. Her name was Tanzile. I gave her a sweet and she said something back to me in Si-swati, the native language. A nurse next to me translated "she wants another one sweet to give to her little sister. "
I said "of course" and gave her another. Later we learned that Tanzile is 7 now. Two years ago when she was five, her mum and dad both died of HIV/AIDS like so many have in this country. She was separated from her baby sister who was three at the time. But ever since that time, whenever Tanzile receives anything from anyone, she refuses to accept it, unless they give her two. One for her and one for her baby sister.
People sometimes think African children or kids are somehow different from our kids—that they don't feel pain or sadness or love. But that is not true. Their pain is deep. And so is their love. Tanzile's hope and her love was all that she had. It mattered more than anything else.
24. In Swaziland many people cannot go to see a doctor because of________.
A. being lazy B. bad weather C. carelessness D. extreme poverty
25. Tanzile is _________.
A. an orphan girl B. a good pupil C. an ugly girl D. a shy girl
26. How old was Tanzile when her parents died?
A. 3 years old. B. 4 years old. C. 5 years old. D. 6 years old.
27. Which of the following will be the best title for the text?
A. Give every child two sweet B. One for my sister
C. Tanzile's love for her family D. Change your attitude to African children
C
All styles of beer have one thing in common: producing them creates piles and piles of leftover barley and other grains.
This by-product is made up of 30 percent protein and 70 percent fiber. While suitable for consumption by cows, the high fiber content makes it difficult for humans to digest. But now, researchers at Virginia Polytechnic and State University (Virginia Tech) have developed a new method of extracting(提取)nutrients and fiber from spent grain for use in food sources and biofuels.
“Spent grain has a very high percentage of protein compared to other agricultural waste, so our goal was to find a novel way to extract and use it,” said Virginia Tech graduate student Yanhong He. His team partnered with local breweries (酿酒厂)and developed a method of separating the grain into a protein concentrate and a fiber-rich powder by treating it with alcalase, a commonly available enzyme (酶).
Through this method they were able to extract more than 80 percent of the protein from the grain. Initially, they proposed that this could be used as a cheap, sustainable food for use in shrimp farms. But now, because of the rise in the number of people switching to a plant-based diet, they are looking into using it as an alternative protein source in various foods for human consumption.
In a separate project, another team from Virginia Tech has developed a method of treating the fiber with Bacillus licheniformis, a species of bacteria recently discovered in a spring in Yellowstone National Park. By treating the fiber with the bacteria, it is possible to
change various sugars within it to 2, 3-butanediol, a compound(化合物)that is used to make many products, such as biofuels, manmade rubber, and materials for creating plastics.
28.What led He's team to treat the leftover material in a different way?
A. The interest they show in beer research.
B. The pity that it pollutes the environment.
C. The fact that it has high protein content.
D The trouble they face with fiber digestion.
29.Why is He's team trying to turn the waste into a nutrition source for human?
A.They have aimed at studying foods.
B. They have objected to feeding shrimps.
C.They have developed a new brewing method.
D.They have considered the expanding consumer base.
30. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Various teams attempt to discover existing species.
B. Spent grain may still have potential to be unlocked.
C. National parks are blanked with friendly bacteria.
D. By-products can be transformed into food and fuel.
31. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?
A.Health. B.Entertainment. C.Education. D.Science.

On October 20,2019,wing,an American multinational company, began the most advanced trials of commercial drone delivery in Virginia. Residents can now use a smartphone app to order items from Wing partners such as Sugar Magnolia.A Wing drone never sets down at
destinations, instead gently lowering the package with a rope outside the customer's door.
Though Wing is the first American company to receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval to use commercial drones as a widespread service.it is not the only one. On October 22,2019,multinational delivery company UPS,which had also received FAA approval for its drone fleet, announced it would soon begin trial deliveries of goods from health care company CVS. Meanwhile, ridesharing company, Uber, which had partnered with McDonald's, hoped to use its drones to deliver food to hungry customers in San Diego, CA, before the end of 2019. Amazon also plans on testing its trial deliveries of goods in a yet-to-be-determined location in the upcoming months.
Every company's drones can carry packages weighing up to five pounds, and the series of trial are hortative, but widespread drone delivery still has many challenges. These include basic issues like finding places for drones to land, reducing noise pollution, and even ensuring the drones don't run into each other while airborne.
To help speed up the process, NASA announced the Urban Air Mobility Grand Challenge. The competition challenges airspace service providers to find creative solutions to the issues,so that drone deliveries can become a reality soon.“We are moving fast," said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. “We want to see by 2028 at least one city-maybe more than one-have the ability to control hundreds of drone delivery systems. They could be carrying goods, doing thousands of missions every day."
32. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. It's impossible to crash other drones during the delivery.
B. People can order items from Wing directly with an app.
C. More companies are expected to try out their drone delivery.
D.Drones deliver items by gently bringing them down to the ground.
33.What does the underlined part “hortative" in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Encouraging. B.Relaxing.
C.Creative. D.Relative.
34.What's Jim Bridenstine's expectation of drone delivery?
A. To increase the speed of airborne delivery.
B. To see drone delivery systems widely used.
C.To be able to control the airline system.
D.To provide more solutions to goods delivery.
35. Which is the best title for the text?
A.The Future of Drone Delivery
B.How to Achieve Drone Delivery in 2028
C.The Advantages of Using Drone Delivery
D.Drone Delivery May Become a Reality in the US

Our class held a discussion about whether music should be played during the break or not. The opinions are divided.
Most of the students think that music should be played, as we all know music can produce a lightly and happy atmosphere. Besides, after hard study, music can bring us relaxation, which reduces the tiredness. This can help us make full preparations for the next class. Listening to music also makes us feel happy. On the other hand, some students don't think so. In their opinion, they can't get the expected effect from playing music, for the class break time is too short. What is needed most during the class break is peace instead of noise produced by music.
In my opinion, it is good to play some salt and peaceful music instead of a lot of music during the class break. In this way, students can enjoy music as well as have a good rest. Besides, I suggest choosing some music that is suitable for middle school students.
