People don’t like new things. It is not any different in health care. It took plenty of time until the stethoscope (听诊器), the symbol of health care was accepted by the medical community back in the 19th century. The instrument was invented by a French physician, who published its description in 1819, but it took several decades until doctors actually started using it.
I don’t expect any difference with artificial intelligence (AI). After many of my talks, physician colleagues ask me whether AI might replace them in their jobs and whether it can eventually become better at identifying the exact cause of an illness. Both will happen but not the way they imagine it. Huge waves are coming to health care. While some of physicians’ tasks will be taken over by AI, they will deal with patients with real care and more patience. Doctors will not have to struggle with being up-to-date in medical research, with administrative tasks, with consultation or making notes. They do not have to have a headache about how to choose the best treatment.
What even the most learned professors know cannot match cognitive (认知的) computers. As the amount of information they accumulate grows, the assistance of computing solutions in medical decisions is approaching. AI will help doctors on the personal level as well as hospitals and other medical institutions on the structural level. On the institutional level, the most obvious use of AI will be data management. It could also analyze entire health care systems quickly and easily.
AI will gradually appear in more and more hospitals and get through the initial stage very quickly. Although it is coming, it will need the medical community’s understanding, initiative (主动性) and drive for a better health care in order to work its best. If we introduced AI everywhere from Bolivia to Harvard, health care would not change a bit. There are many reasons for it but everyone in health care should play their part to improve those elements.
24.Why does the author refer to the stethoscope?
A.To show it has many limitations.
B.To imply it will give way to AI.
C.To explain it is widely used in treating disease.
D.To illustrate people refuse to accept new things.
25.How will AI influence physicians?
A.They needn’t do medical research.
B.They’ll spare more time for patients.
C.They’ll have difficulty with treatments.
D.They’re likely to lose their jobs to AI.
26.What does the author intend to convey in Paragraph 3?
A.AI will face uncertainties in the future.
B.Cognitive computers do better than man.
C.Existing health care has its disadvantages.
D.AI will open a new dimension for health care.
27.What will the following paragraph(s) probably talk about?
A.When health care will be improved. B.How people can promote the change.
C.What benefits AI will bring about. D.How AI will transform health care.

We are often reminded of Oscar Wilde’s saying that “sarcasm (讽刺) is the lowest form of wit” while forgetting the following “but the highest form of intelligence”. Parents or teachers of teenagers, in particular, may find it hard to believe that it is actually a sign of a flexible and inventive mind.
Yet that is exactly what psychologists and neuroscientists have been arguing. They have found that sarcasm requires the brain to jump through numerous hoops (圈) to arrive at a correct interpretation, requiring more brainpower than literal statements.
If you’re still not convinced that your teen’s love of sarcasm is a thing worth celebrating, consider a recent experiment from Li Huang, a psychologist at Insead’s business school in Fontainebleau, France.
In the experiment, participants were presented with a candle, a pack of matches and a box of tacks. Their task was to find a way to attach the candle to the wall so that it could bum without dripping wax on the floor. The correct answer is to empty the box of tacks, pin it to the wall, and then place the candle inside a solution that will only come to mind if you are prepared to think about the functions of each object.
Before working on the problem, some participants were asked to recall a sarcastic interaction, while others remembered a sincere or neutral exchange. Quite amazingly, the sarcastic memories more than doubled the participants’ success rate, from around 30% to more than 60%.
It may initially feel like a shock when parents notice their children using sarcasm——a sign, perhaps, of a more adult-like cynicism (愤世嫉俗) that conflicts with their impressions of their children’s youthful innocence. Parents may feel particularly helpless when dealing with a teenager who uses it in almost all interactions, as if they struggle. to express any sincere emotions.
But should we blame teens for applying this handy tool? Perhaps it’s better seen as the useful practice of a vital ability. Penny Pexman, a psycholinguist at the University of Calgary agrees and it is for this reason that she has produced Sydney Gets Sarcastic, a storybook that provides multiple examples of sarcasm and the reasons it was used. In a recent experiment on 5-to 6-year-olds, she showed that children who read and discussed the story found it easier to detect sarcastic statements in a following test.
28.Why does the author refer to Oscar Wilde’s words at the beginning of the text?
A.To give a definition of sarcasm.
B.To stress the significance of sarcasm.
C.To express his concern about sarcasm.
D.To show the misunderstanding of sarcasm.
29.What can we learn about sarcastic memories from Li Huang’s experiment?
A.They tended to stay long with participants.
B.They offered clues to the problem to be solved.
C.They could force participants to face problems.
D.They contributed greatly to participant’s success.
30.What might parents think of their children’s sarcasm?
A.It shows their innocence. B.It helps them express emotions.
C.It is not appropriate for their age. D.It allows them to behave like adults.
31.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To urge parents to learn from their children’s sarcasm.
B.To teach parents how to respond to their children’s sarcasm.
C.To show parents the positive side of their children’s sarcasm.
D.To remind parents to teach their children to use words properly.

On October 12,2021,China officially announced its first five national parks, which are homes to endangered species ranging from the Siberian tigers on the Russian border to the world’s last 30 Hainan black crested gibbons(黑冠长臂猿)in southern China’s tropical rainforest.
By uniting hundreds of protected areas managed by various provinces, the new national park system’s goal is to strengthen conservation under the central authority of the new National Forestry and Grassland Administration(NFGA)
These five parks cover an area two-third the size of the US national park system. The largest, Sanjiangyuan National Park in Qinghai Province, is almost the size of Mississippi.
With such an ambitious plan, there are bound to be challenges. For one the government has to balance the need for the livelihoods of the locals with wildlife conservation. It has not announced a plan to create a permitting system that would regulate how people enjoy nature. What’s more,ecotourism-which is defined as tourism that benefits both locals and their environment-only exists in a fifth of China’s nature reserves.
But there’s hope that the existing ecotourism projects in such nature reserves as Sanjiangyuan National Park and Wolong Nature Reserve will inspire efforts elsewhere in the new park system. Since 2018, Sanjiangyuan National Park has run a community-led tourism program that benefits both locals and snow leopards(豹), the park’s main tourist draw. For $43 a day, visitors can stay with local families, who act as guides to spot these rare “cats” in the wild.
“The community has made all the major decisions, and 100 percent of the income stays in the community. It’s been incredibly successful,” says Marc Brody, who has worked in China since 1994.
NFGA agrees that well-designed ecotourism can improve local ecosystems. It says that a core mission(核心使命)of China’s national parks is to promote eco-civilizationa mission that can be advanced by involving visitors Written into China’s constitution(宪法)in 2012, eco-civilization means scientifically balancing the economic development and the environmental protection.
32.Which park is home to the thirty endangered gibbons?
A.Hainan National Park. B.Wolong Nature Reserve.
C.Northeast National Park. D.Sanjiangyuan National Park.
33.What can be learned about Sanjiangyuan National Park?
A.It is bigger than Mississippi. B.It sits on the Russian border.
C.It is a pioneer in ecotourism. D.It has a mature permitting system.
34.Which word best describes Marc Brody’s attitude to ecotourism?
A.Skeptical. B.Unconcerned C.Disapproving D.Positive
35.What is the main purpose of China’s national parks?
A.To protect the endangered animals.
B.To help the local people out of poverty.
C.To balance the economy and the environment.
D.To set a better development example for the world.

What parents should know about childhood cancer.
Childhood cancer takes up less than 1% of total cases of cancer. However, the diagnosis of childhood cancer can be wrenching(痛苦的)for families.
36 In fact, today more than 80% of kids with childhood cancer live at least five years or more, according to the American Cancer Society. Most are long-term survivors. 37 At the same time, cancer remains the leading disease-related cause of kids’ deaths in kids one to nineteen years old. 38 Children’s bodies are frequently more resilient(能复原的)in the face of aggressive treatment, like chemotherapy(化疗). They are able to recover sometimes better than adults. The same cancer-fighting therapies, however, have a harmful impact on a child’s developing brain and body.
39 Although most children with cancer may be cured, families also have to proceed with caution and consider the long-term impact of care. There is a wide range of health problems that can occur in the months or years after treatment. They can range from problems with brain development, cognitive impairment(认知缺陷)and memory loss, to secondary cancers caused by exposure to radiation used to treat childhood cancers. 40
A.Kids have more advantages than adults.
B.These diseases are usually called late effects.
C.If fortunate enough for them, the cancer never comes back.
D.How do doctors and specialists diagnose and treat kids’ cancer?
E.Families of kids with cancer usually get into great trouble.
F.Improvements in treatment can help most kids survive their cancer.
G.The reason why some kids’ cancer never comes back is unknown.

My parents do a lot of embarrassing things! Usually, it’s my dad who sings silly songs or tells corny jokes around my friends. But a few weeks ago, it was my mother who played the embarrassing-parent role.
While my mom and I were shopping, we ran into my teacher, who mentioned that the school didn’t have a music teacher to help our class put together a performance for Winter Fair. And, right then and there, my mom said, “I know the perfect song and dance. I’ll teach it to the kids!”
Before I could say “Please don’t”, my mom had agreed to come to my class every morning at 9:30 for a week. Oh, and just to be clear, it’s not as if she’s a professional entertainer. My parents run a small grocery store, and the only singing my mom does is in the shower.
“Um,” I said on our way home, “are you sure this is such a good idea?” “Of course! ” she said. “If we want your school Winter Fair to happen, people need to step up and volunteer.” “I know volunteering is important,” I said, “but couldn’t you help out in Tex and Indi’s kindergarten instead?” She laughed, “Don’t be silly. We will have fun!”
“OK, fellas!” my teacher said at 9:28 on Monday. “We’re going to stop silent reading a little early today because a special guest is here to help us with a performance for Winter Fair. Let’s all welcome Arizona’s mother.”
I looked up to discover my mom standing at the front of the room wearing the world’s silliest snowflake hat. “I’m super excited to be here with you!” my mom said, “I’m going to teach you a fun little song-and-dance performance I learned a few years back, when I did some theater in college. Here goes !”
Oh please, oh please, I said over and over in my head, let there be a fire drill, or an assembly, or a power failure, or anything to stop my mom from completely embarrassing herself- and me!!!
But apparently, my mom was not at all concerned about looking silly. She turned on some background music and started singing and dancing away.

Paragraph 1:
“I can't believe this is happening” was all I could think. I closed my eyes, covered my ears and shrank as low as I possibly could in my chair. After a few seconds, though, I mustered up enough courage to uncover one ear and peek through a half-open eye. That’s when I saw the expression of pure joy on my mom’s face. She was having so much fun that I couldn’t help smiling. My classmates clapped and cheered, and I heard someone say, “Wow! Arizona’s mother is pretty talented!”
Paragraph 2:
My mom turned out to be more than a little OK at performing. She was also good at teaching us the song and the dance steps, too. We learned quickly. By the time of the fair, I was actually proud of her for putting herself out there for the sake of us kids. Our performance at the Winter Fair was a huge success. As we drove home, I said to my mom, “I’m really glad you volunteered to help my class with the performance.” My mom reached back and squeezed my hand. “Thanks for saying that. I can see why you might’ve been embarrassed, but I had such a great time.”
