B.Having a picnic. C.Taking a motor-boat. D.Cooking2.Which park has the most campsites?A.Grundy Lake Provincial Park. B.Bon Echo Provincial Park.C.Charleston Lake Provincial Park. D.Murphys Point Provincial Park.3.In which section of a newspaper can you probably find this passage?A.Health. B.Science C.Education. D. Travel.B My motivation for starting our family tradition of reading in the car was purely selfish: I could not bear listening to A Sesame Street Christmas for another 10 hours. My three children had been addicted to this cassette on our previous summer’s road trip.As I began to prepare for our next 500-mile car trip, I came across a book Jim Trelease’s The Read Aloud Handbook. This could be the answer to my problem. I thought. So I put Roald dahl’s James and the Giant Peach into my bag. When I began to read aloud the tale of the boy who escapes the bad guys by hiding inside a giant peach, my three kids argued and wrestled in their seats. But after several lines, they were attracted into the rhythm of the words and began to listen. We soon learned that the simple pleasure of listening to a well-written book makes the long miles pass more quickly. Sometimes the books we read became highlights of the trip. I read Wilson Rawls’s Summer of the Monkeys as we spent two days driving to the beach. We arrived just behind the power crews restoring (恢复) electricity after a tropical storm. The rain continued most of the week, and the beach was covered with oil washed up by the storm. When we returned home, I asked my son what he liked about the trip. He answered without hesitation, “The book you read in the car.”Road trips still offer challenges, even though my children now are teenagers. But we continue to read as we roll across the country. And I'm beginning to see that reading aloud has done more than help pass the time. For at least a little while, we are not shut in our own electronic worlds. And maybe we’ve started something that will pass on to the next generation.4.Why did the author start reading in the car?A.She wanted to have a better journey. B.She wanted to keep a family traditionC.Her children were addicted to music. D.She wanted to kill the time.5.How did the children react after the author read a few lines?A.They soon settled down. B.They hid themselves.C.They kept quarrelling. D.They continued to fight in their seats. 6.What can we learn about the author and her family’s trip to the beach?A.They had a good time on the beach. B.They enjoyed reading on the road.C.They were caught in a storm. D.They thought it had passed too quickly. 7.Which can be the best title for the text?A.Better Reading than Traveling B.Books that Changed My ChildrenC.Road Trips Full of Challenges D.Reading Makes Great Road TripsC Pinocchio may be just a children’s fairy tale, but Spanish scientists at the University of Granada recently investigated this so-called “Pinocchio effect” and found that our noses don’t grow when we tell a lie, but actually shrink a bit.Dr. Gómez Milán and his team developed a lie detector test that used thermography(温度记录法)to tell if people were lying, and found that whenever participants in their research were being untruthful, the temperature of the tip of their nose dropped up to 1.2℃, while the temperature of their forehead increased up to 1.5℃. Scientist also found that drop in temperature at nose level actually caused it to slightly shrink, although the difference is undetected by the human eye.“One has to think in order to lie, which rises the temperature of the forehead,” Dr. Gómez Milán explained the findings. “At the same time we feel anxious, which lowers the temperature of the nose.”For this study, researchers asked a number of 60 students to perform various tasks while their temperature is scanned by thermal imaging (热成像)technology. One of these tasks required making a 3 to 4 minutes call to their parents or a friend and telling a significant lie. Participants had to make up the lie themselves during the call. Interestingly, this lie detector picked up the “Pinocchio effect” temperature difference in 80 percent of the test subjects, which is a better rate of success than that of any modern lie detector.“With this method we have achieved to increase accuracy”, said Dr. Gómez Milán, who added that law enforcement interviewers could one day combine other lie detection technology with thermal imaging to achieve better results.8.Why does the writer talk about Pinocchio in the first paragraph?A.To tell a fairy tale. B.To give an example.C.To talk about a scientist. D.To introduce the topic.9.What is “Pinocchio effect”?A.Our noses will shrink when we tell a lie.B.Our noses will grow when we tell a lie.C.The temperature of the forehead falls if we lie.D.The temperature of the student rises for anxiety.10.How did Dr. Gómez Milán feel about the lie detector?A.Confident. B.Surprised.C.Doubtful D.Puzzled..11.What lesson can we learn from the text?A.A lie will travel very hard. B.Truth is better than lie.C. Many ways to bring a liar to light. D.Once a liar always a liar.D One in five women and one in eight men are becoming more tired and less productive, according to a new Australian study on mobile phone use.Led by the Queensland University of Technology in Australia, researchers surveyed 709 mobile phone users across the country aged 18 to 83 and asked them a series of questions based on a similar study 13 years ago. Identifying a phenomenon "technoference (科技干扰)", researchers discovered a significant increase in people blaming their devices for losing sleep, becoming less productive and even getting more aches and pains".According to the study's lead author Dr Oscar, the issue is so bad that 24 percent of women and 15 percent of men are now considered to be " problematic mobile phone users". "When we talk about technoference, we're referring to the everyday intrusions (侵入)and interruptions that people experience due to mobile phones and their usage," he said. "Our survey found technoference had increased among men and women. For example, self-reports relating to the loss of sleep and productivity showed that these negative outcomes had significantly increased during the last 13 years. This finding suggests that mobile phones are potentially increasingly affecting aspects of daytime functioning due to lack of sleep. "Compared to a 2005 study, "technoference" issues for 18 to 24-year-old experienced a surprising 40. 9 percent rise, while those aged 25 to 29 also recorded a dramatic increase of 23. 5 percent.Oscar said that with the number of smartphone users around the world expected to surpass 2. 5 billion before the end of this year, the problem of "technoference" could get even worse. "The speed and depth of smartphone take-up makes our population particularly vulnerable to some of the negative consequences of high mobile phone use." he said. "Rapid technological innovations have led to dramatic changes in today's mobile phone technology, which can improve the quality of life for phone users but also result in some negative outcomes. "12.How are people affected by technoference according to the text?A.It makes people addicted to communicating online.B.It causes people to sleep less at night.C.It pushes people to work at a fast pace.D.It brings negative outcomes to people of all ages.13.Which group are most influenced by smartphones?A.Children. B.Young manC.Young women. D.Seniors.14.What does the underlined word "vulnerable" in paragraph 5 probably mean?A.Easily hurt. B.Widely spread.C.Deeply devoted D.Absolutely accustomed.15.What does the text mainly talk about?A.The increasing side effects of smartphones.B.Ways to solve technoference problem.C.Smartphones and people's happiness.D.The popularity of smartphones.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 We know that choosing a college major can be very hard.
