    第一节(共10小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)

    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

    A

My father had died when I was young, so if I didn’t acknowledge my mother’s birthday, likely no one would. On her birthday, I decided to bake her some cookies, take them to her house and leave them with a little note for her.

But what to write about? My mother and I had not always been close. Pouring out words of love seemed insincere, but there were plenty of things I did appreciate, so I wrote a letter expressing my appreciation for what she had taught me. She taught me to live within our means and not to go into debt. She taught me the color of someone’s skin was irrelevant(无关紧要的). She taught me helping others in need was its own reward. She taught me to value the elderly. She taught me how to see the shapes in the clouds. She taught me to appreciate the way the air smelled after a rain.

Having finished the letter, I sent the cookies and the handwritten letter to my mother. That evening, she called and thanked me, saying it was a wonderful birthday present.

Two years later, she suffered a fatal heart attack. While cleaning out her house, I came across a photocopy(复印件) of the birthday letter I had written to her in the drawer抽屉 of the bedside table in the guest room. And then room after room, drawer after drawer revealed more photocopies of the same letter. There was one in the kitchen drawer and one taped to the inside of the kitchen cabinet. I also found one in a drawer in both bathrooms, another in the living room and two more in her bedroom.

Finally, I opened the drawer beside her bed, where I found an old handkerchief and as I pulled it out, a wrinkled piece of paper fluttered to the floor. It was the original birthday letter. It had been smoothed over and over again. I realized at that moment that the best things I could have given my mother weren’t really things at all.

    21. What did the author learn from her mother?

    A. Live a happy life regardless of how much money one has.

    B. We should treat people of different skin colors differently.

    C. One can be rewarded a lot of money when helping others

    D. It’s of great importance to explore the beauty of nature.

    22. While cleaning out his mother’s house, the author probably felt ________.

    A. alarmed but convinced               B. confused but happy

    C. surprised but touched               D. puzzled but inspired

    23. What does the author mean by saying the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?

    A. What her mother value was her love not the gift itself.

    B. She should never have sent any present to her mother.

    C. Of all the gifts she had given her mother, nothing was best.

    D. No gift was better than what she had given her mother.

    B

From the top of Mount Qomolangma to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, plastic continues to pollute the environment, and it creates a significant threat to all life forms on Earth. Despite knowing the effects of plastic pollution, we have not been able to ban the use of plastic products. Now, thanks to the invention of a 17-year-old girl, Arora, we finally have a better choice. This plastic-like material is made from prawn (大虾) shells, and it breaks down 1.5 million times faster than most of the commercial plastic products we use today.

The Australian teen first became aware of the impact of plastic waste on the environment when shopping with her mother. She wondered why her mother had to pay for the plastic bags. When asked, the cashier informed her how plastic hurts the planet and that the additional charge was there to encourage people not to use it. This inspired Arora to create a kind of plastic that would break down faster than the conventional常规的 one.

But the journey of inventing “eco-friendly plastic” was not easy. She experimented with a number of organic materials such as cornflour and banana peels, both of which had to be ruled out because of their solubility (溶解性). One night, while having dinner, she noticed that the shells of prawns look plasticky. She immediately went to the lab to research. Later, she would describe that dinner as her “Eureka” moment.

She extracted提取 the material called “chitin” from the shells and then mixed it with an insoluble protein called “fibroin”, which is found in silk cocoons. Using the combination of these two organic materials, Arora created a plastic-like material that breaks down completely within just 33 days. Moreover, this plastic releases nitrogen when breaking down, which is why it can be used as plant fertilizer肥料.

Arora’s invention has caused a stir, and she has won a number of awards. As an inspiring young woman, Arora wants to make a difference in the world, and she wants to encourage other young people to follow their passion and make a positive difference however they can.

    24. What could be a “Eureka” moment?

    A. A moment of needing reflection.          B. A moment of finding the truth.

    C. A moment of having sudden inspiration.    D. A moment of enjoying the celebration.

    25. What can be known about the new plastic in paragraph 4?

    A. It is made from non-organic materials.     B. It can break down totally in a month.

    C. It can be used to help plants to grow.      D. It is extracted from an insoluble protein.

    26. Which of the following can best describe Arora?

    A. Brave and clever.                     B. Creative and inspiring.

    C. Active and considerate.                 D. Humorous and friendly.

    C

The stories we share with one another are important. They show wisdom and provide inspiration. They are important to our development. But sometimes people choose not to tell.

Consider the negative effects of not sharing a story in the news: People are wondering if public health officials are holding back too much information about the recent outbreak of Ebola埃博拉病毒.

There is a danger in holding back stories that ought to be told. Bobette Buster said it like this, “The fact is, history has shown us that stories not told can become like a dangerous genie (妖怪) left in a bottle. When they are finally uncorked, their power to destroy is set free.”

There are a number of reasons why we hide parts of our story: they often show our weaknesses or expose our disadvantages; they require courage and strength to share; and of course, there are some stories that should be kept secret—especially those that embarrass someone else.

Most of us have two selves: the one we display on the outside and the one we actually are on the inside. And the better we get at hiding the stories that show our true selves, the more damage we may be causing to ourselves and to others.

Honesty and openness is important: it proves we are trustworthy. It displays we are human. We are not perfect or better. It highlights the importance of hard work and personal development. Hard work may not allow us to overcome our disadvantages completely. But with hard work, we do not have to be restricted to our mistakes.

Does this mean we admit every weakness, every disadvantage, and every secret regret to everybody we meet? No, of course not. There is a time and a place and a certain level of relationship necessary for some stories to be told in an appropriate manner.

    27. What’s the function of the example in Paragraph 2?

    A. It reflects that people are concerning about the spread of Ebola.

    B. It shows the bad effect caused by sharing a story.

       C. It proves not sharing a story can cause trouble.

       D. It concludes that one should share a story at a proper time.

    28. Which is close in meaning to the underlined word “uncorked” in Paragraph 3?

       A. freed        B. broken       C. unfolded        D. untouched

    29. One of the reasons why people are unwilling to share experiences is that _______.

       A. story-sharing highlights the importance of hard work

       B. people are used to exposing their weaknesses

       C. people sometimes have no courage to share their stories

       D. some stories make themselves feel sad

    30. The writer aims to convince us to _______.

       A. be open to people close to you by sharing some secrets

       B. share stories appropriately for the good of others and ourselves

       C. remove the dangers that can be caused by untold stories

       D. realize the importance of being honest when making friends

    第二节根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Review important points mentioned in class as well as the points you remain confused about.    34      Also if you review your notes and textbook regularly, they will become more meaningful, and you will remember them longer.

35     .Tests can show what you have learned about a subject. The world won’t end even if you don’t pass a test, so don’t worry excessively about single test. Tests provide grades, but they can also let you know what you need to spend more time studying on, and they help your master the knowledge better.

In fact, there are many other techniques that might help you with your study. Discover them after you have tried and share the techniques that you have discovered with your classmates.

    A. You should attach great importance to tests.

    B. Adopt a good attitude towards tests.

    C. This will help you understand what the teacher will teach later.

    D. Of course, studying shouldn’t take up all of the free time on the schedule.

    E. When you begin to work, you will be able to concentrate on the subject.

    F. It will enable you to plan your activities so that you have enough time for both work and play.

    G. With some efforts, even students of average intelligence can improve your study efficiency without additional work.

    第二节第二节 概要写作(满分25分)

    阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Family problems can be very painful, especially around family-centered times, like holidays. However, there are ways to solve family problems and restore peace to the dynamic(活力). Life is too short to waste. How a person approaches the family members and what he says can make a difference.

If the family members are arguing, waiting until everyone calms down can help deal with the argument. A person shouldn’t discuss the family problem when he is still feeling upset or emotional. If he waits even a single night, the intensity (强烈) of the emotion is likely to calm down somewhat, even if he is still unhappy. He should wait rather than react emotionally. If he takes a step back and gives himself some time to think before dealing with the issue, he will deal with it wisely.

Someone wants to send off a text or an email and wishes he could take things back. Trying to address an argument or a family problem by instant text messages or emails is the worst possible choice. That’s because the tone can too easily be misunderstood by electronic communication. The man who sends off a message or an email might not think he sounds angry to the person receiving it. Instead of sending off a text, pick up the telephone or, better yet, arrange in-person communication. Electronic communication means people lose the true meaning of body language, which can express feelings and reduce the sting(不快) of a painful conversation.

As the saying goes, “Blood is thicker than water.” People can choose their friends, but not their family. You might be able to cut people out, but it could cause you more pain down the road. Understanding that family members have faults but they can still love their families is the first step toward addressing problems. Accept your own faults, too.

I’m greatly honored to deliver the speech. As we all know, with the development of economy and society, the number of private cars is amazingly increasing. Cars and other vehicles give off carbon gases, so do many other human activities, which causes global warming, disasters, and so on. It's high time that we should go green.

From my point of view, we should raise the public's awareness of the significance of going green. And taking public transportation or riding bicycle instead of driving should be greatly encouraged. What's more, it's a good idea to classify our rubbish and recycle it in our daily life.

    That's all. Thank you.

    概要写作

    One possible version:

Family problems can cause people pain. However, there are always some ways to handle them. Wait until you are not angry to discuss the family problems and you can avoid reacting emotionally. Instead of texting or emailing, deal with family problems in person, which is effective. Meanwhile, it is important to try to accept everyone’s faults, including yours. (58 words)
